Retro or Modern
I personally think that game-play and story writing has got much better as the industry developed. Game-play wise, I always found my Super Nintendo to be a bit lacking. There were many games that were too difficult or not explained properly. The lack of a save feature also made them impossible to complete. I remember spending at least 2 days without switching it off whilst playing on Final Fantasy - The 4 Diamonds. I played Super Mario 1 & 2 & 3 and although they kept me entertained for hours on end, they didn't offer as much freedom as I wanted (3 was a massive improvement in that aspect) and lacked save fuctions. I got my Super Nintendo from my cousin when he got a PC to play on with about 30 games. About 5 of these were playable. The rest was either too difficult/ not well enough explained (eg - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Castlevania and the original Zelda) or just plain boring (eg. Tetris and Pong). Nowadays, you have difficulty sliders to decide how hard you want it to be, which means that everyone can be pleased from the biggest gamer to the kid having his first go on a game. The graphics are much, much better and they do add something to a game. The game-play has also got better. RTS's weren't around in retro times (I think anyway, please correct me if I'm wrong) and they are great fun, well thought out, challenging games. FPS's have come a long way as well. Games like Half-Life are leaps and bounds game-play wise above anything from the retro years. It's not just shoot alien, dodge, shoot again, there are stratedgies and realisms built into the games that make it far more entertaining and rewarding than just doing the same simple task, faster and faster (space invaders) for a high score or jumping from moving bridges onto the heads of over-grown puddings (Super Mario). RPG's have also lead the way into creating whole new worlds and lands for the player to explore and live in. This was seen in games like the first Zelda but there was always restrictions and the whole thing was very stiff and unreal. Games like Oblivion and Gothic III show us how far we've come in improving our games to provide what people want. Because there were relatively few games out there, it was easy to be original. I loved Duckhunt because it was a novelty and I spent hours blowin' up them clay pidgeons and ducks. Nowadays, there is Time Crisis and House of the Dead. Both much more visually applealing and more entertaining even though they arn't original. The story writing in those days was appalling. You had to save a princess from a dragon or collect enough rainbows to get someone out of dreamland. And that was it for the entire games story. No cut-scenes, no further explanation except maybe a picture at the end with everyone looking happy on it when you had killed the final boss. Nowadays you are given a story (for example the Half-Life series or Final Fantasy series) which is well written, planned out, gripping and full of twists.

Describe your perfect day here.
Woah woah woah woah woah. Nando's...classy? The only thing in that place with 'class' are the way the germs rank themselves in successful infection ratings. Ah, I've never been to Nando's before I'd just assumed it was a higher class version of KFC/ a nice restaurant. Steakhouse would do me fine in that case :D

Describe your perfect day here.
Sleep in till about 10-30, wake up, call a few friends and hit the town. See a good movie and find out that the hot blond just dumped her boy and was interested in 'getting to know me better'. Eat out at a classy restaurant (something like Nando's or a steak-house but with better quality food) with the bird and a few friends before heading out to see Stone Sour playing at Leeds University. Then I turn up and find that the show has been cancelled due to one of the Guitarists being ill. As this is my perfect, not realistic day I offer to stand in his place. I'd then get to meet the band members and go perform some red hot solo's in front of 10,000 people including the hot blonde who now totally adores me and my friends who now admire me. Then back to my convieniently empty place, after saying bye to my new found rock star chums, for some hot chocolate with the lady.

First one is Men in Black (Do we have to give the number if it's in a series? If so it's the second one).

Heavy metal 'a comfort for the bright child'
I'm probally in the 'Gifted and talented' area for maths and I listen to heavy metal. I also know a guy in the bottom set for maths and he too listens to heavy metal. We both come from middle-class backgrounds and have good self-esteem and family relationships. I didn't see anywhere in that study that said more brightr students listened to heavy metal than less bright students, all I saw was that they made some connection between bright kids feeling extra pressure and turning to metal for support. I'd really like to see the statistics for this, as I doubt there is a correlation between music taste and academic ability.

The most epic battle! (Or hardest).
Now that you guys mention them, I've had some really epic Battles on FPS's in capture the flag. I never really played any games designed especially for multiplayer, so my CTF experiences are mainly on Jedi Knight 2 . That games had atmosphere. When you're running along with a lightsaber, deflecting bullets, and you force push someone over the edge of a cliff, that just feels great. I also loved the Duel mode there was on that game. The best maps were the Sky City carbon-freezing chamber from The Empire Strikes back and the chamber where you first encounter the Shadow Troopers. I used to kick some serious butt at that game.

This melody sounds familar, what is it?
That video isn't appropriate anyway (well the lyrics to the song at least, I can't remember how the video went). I'll leave this thread open in case someone knows what you are talking about but please don't re-post that video link.

PS3 The Elder Scrolls

Last Games You Bought?
Which far cry? The original for PC. I saw that it got 91% so I got it from a bargain bin for ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã2. First two levels were pretty awful.

Does anyone still play text-based MMORPGs?

South park season 11 [Epsidoe 1106 out!]
I've been doing a South Park marathon recently. Watched about 30 episodes so far and I've loved most of them. The new series is pretty good I think, Cartman sucks had me in hysterics at some points. The best episode I've seen though has to be 'Scott Tenorman must die'. That was funny.

Summer Festivals
I might be going to download this year with a few friends. The line up looks to be pretty good not as good as last year but still damn good. Stone Sour, Dream Theater and Slayer are the ones I'd really want to see. Might be a few more ones yet to be announced and a few I've missed.

Happy Pi Day Everybody!
Only one person in our school knew it was Pi day. He brought in several pages of Pi written to about 30000 places. :uhh:

"Legal Highs" and the anti-drugs legislation
I'm all up for the full legalisation of drugs as long as everyone knows the full reprocussions (sp?) of taking drugs and that drug eductation is given at an early age. I guess that if drugs were made legal, a lot of people would try smoking cannabis and then never touch it again. Most people's attitudes to hard drugs wouldn't change that much. People know that they will almost guarenteedly (I don't even think thats a word) ruin your life and they would stay well clear of them. Education is important so that kids don't get hold of drugs and get seriously messed up. That said, I know a few people who have taken hard drugs once and not bothered taking it again. They were chavs but they knew the risks - all they wanted was to experience it once and not again - taking it again might drag them down a road they didn't want to go down. So yeah, I want drugs to be made legal for the reasons in the opening post but I also think that education on the effects of drugs should be better and that minors should never be exposed to drugs. Once you are an adult, it's your body and your choice, as a teenager drugs have much more potential to mess with your head.

The most epic battle! (Or hardest).
The Sniper Battle with the Old Dude in MGS3 was pretty epic. Other than that I'd say that the Final Fantast series had the most epic battles and some of the hardest (think Ruby and Emerald Weapon or the Dark Aeons in FFX).

How would you describe your friends?
I've got one really close friend who is very simular to me in pretty much all aspects of life (except he does no sport at all and I do tonnes). We both are into music, computers and we have the same bizzare sense of humour. After him, my immediate group of friends (the people that we hang round with, do stuff with after school) are a very weird but nice bunch. We share the common interest of music and thats about it. All the lads that I hang round with are almost 6ft and three out of the five of us are rugby players plus one blackbelt and 'the dwarf' (affectionate nickname the largest of our group called his 4ft 8 girlfriend) who is an ikedo ("she'll flatpack yo rear!") thingy. This group of friends is incredibally flexible and we seem to know everyone else. There are always other people hanging out with us, if just for that day. Anyway, there's a lot of really bad jokes and the occasional stupid moment but that makes hanging round with them all the more fun. Sorry for the jumbled upyness of this post, my mind is a mess tonight.

See, this is why 61% of the British Muslims want Sharia law
The Islamic law is very black and white and it is followed to the letter by most Islamic countries. If you are a thief, you will have your hand or foot amputated. If you commit adultery, you will be stoned to death. It isn't misinformed extremists carrying out these practises, it is Governments and they are doing what it says in the Qu'ran (or it might be the Hadith [sayings of the prophet] or the Sunnah [actions of the prophet]. If I understand what you're saying, then I have to go and point out the crusades, the Spanish Inquisision and all the wars and genecides caused by religious differences.

SKY Channels on Virgin Media
Yeah that was very annoying. I don't think that we got anything major that was positive from the virgin take over either
