  1. I was also at around 150 or so. There's a lot to be said for bribes. :-w (The bribe part was obviously a joke, just so I don't get people thinking I was serious.)
  2. Yeah, obviously favoritism. It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the fact he was suggested for Mod months ago by someone other than tripsis and we wanted to get all the old prospects sorted and modded before we began on the applications. (Btw, I hate that eye roll emote but jeez if it didn't fit here.) Congrats to you both and I'm sorry to see it turn out like it has for you two so far.
  3. It can hold more than the normal amount just so the initial rush wouldn't completely max it out. It also helped that we sorted the apps a few times per day for the first few days and kept the inbox cleaned so we don't miss someone or have it cluttered.
  4. A few responses to some of the last page or two of comments: I find the fact people are complaining or arguing in general about the way we're doing this to be weird. With the exception of the Admins and to some extent the Mods, we haven't discussed the manner we're doing this but I can assure you we are not blindly approving apps. We're perfectly aware of the behavior change this is likely to cause and we're not letting 2 weeks of "mod-like" behavior make the difference in who passes or not. We have certain criteria we are using to do initial reviews but this process is not really any different than the one we've been using before now. The differences are more potential people at once. We're also scrutinizing them all more closely just because of the possibility of power hungry people trying to get in. People can ask questions regarding specifics of how to answer a question or things of that nature. The whole point behind the warning in the announcement is we don't want people harassing staff in game or in PM about whether their app got good reviews or not. They won't tell you so why bother asking. I'm sure most people get the distinction. Ask questions about the process if you like and we'll explain as best we can. Regarding post count, having a high one won't matter if all you post is crap. There are a multitude of users who frequent the forum a lot and only post to a moderate degree if they have something of value to say. Lastly, we asked for the boards you read because it's beneficial to have people moderate boards they are active in. Someone who reads OT a lot and knows how things function there is much more suited to mod it than someone who prefers Blogscape the most. We want people who enjoy the board and are users of that board who can moderate when needed.
  5. I can see the benefit of this but I've just learned to work around it. Now if you want to talk about having the sig displayed in the profile, that I can agree with. I'm betting my reasons are the same as tripsis' but it would help me I know.
  6. I think I still like the raspberry Jello one the best of the latest bunch.
  7. Sorry to lock, but this forum is for Runescape related achievements only. Edit: Wow, same time, Tripsis. :
  8. It's not just that we're targeted more, but also that if you get keylogged randomly, what will they do with the information. Perhaps a better way of thinking about it is if we had to choose between secure comps and unsecure, why would we want to take the chance on someone breaking into an account and deleting half the website for example.
  9. Open Applications are no longer being accepted. Thank you for your interest. [hide]Do you have time to commit to helping us make Tip.It the best RuneScape forum? 10. No, I removed the last one at my discretion. I'll assume from your post this is the same topic minus the title. I suggest you don't make another one of these as the two people this concerns have worked it out.
  11. [*:2ltv67be]If a friend from RL lent you a party hat to wear once and give back, would you take it? Yes, though it wouldn't happen to start because I don't like being responsible for other's items so I wouldn't accept. [*:2ltv67be]If an ingame friend gave you his partyhat to wear then give back, would you take it? Same answer, people are people whether you know them in person or not. [*:2ltv67be]If a rich person you hardly knew lent you his partyhat to wear and give back, would you take it? Yes if it happened, though in the case of strangers I'd absolutely refuse to wear it. [*:2ltv67be]If you knew someones password, and knew they were rich, would you take thier stuff? Nope, probably tell them to change their pass. [*:2ltv67be]Would you kill a skulled person in the wilderness for a partyhat? Depends, if they were just out there minding their own business I'd think "What the hell?" and probably ask them about it. If they're a rude abrasive jerk who went out of their way to harass me then I'd kill them no hesitation. [*:2ltv67be]Would you accept a duel with a much lower level that stakes all his money (say 5 mil)? I don't stake for gp but assuming I did, I'd like to think somoene is smart enough to not wager more than they want to lose. [*:2ltv67be]If someone died, and dropped something valuable, would you give it back? Yes. If I can see the person's name before it happens I'll contact them. Otherwise I wait for them to return and verify items they dropped so I know it's them.
  12. There will be more skins available for phpbb3 beyond subSilver I would imagine. Besides, you would rather have bad forum software that looked a certain way or a new one that was ten fold better with features and had a skin you were less than thrilled about. :P
  13. The Administrative Team is very proud to publicly announce the rank of Super Moderator. This is a position that has been in existence, but we feel it is time for the contribution of the Super Moderators to be known. The team consists of Azntemplar_00, McGuff1, misterxman, Phil, QueenValerie, and SpencerM98. They assist with various administrative duties in addition to performing the regular duties of Global Moderator. These Moderators now have the new avatar shown below and the rank of Super Moderator by their name. Thanks guys! Your effort is truly appreciated. The Tip.It Administrative Team
  14. Maybe I should start being nicer to Albosky... I might have an angry mob after me if not. Hmm, on second thought I'll take my chances. *resumes filling Albosky's car with beanbag pellets* :-w
  15. Just fixed it. Thanks for pointing this out and thanks to skatedog for saving me the trouble of finding the link. :
  16. I doubt it was sarcastic since the new version comes with some "new" emotes but back on topic. When the last batch of emotes was added last year I recall that there would not be any additional ones added after that. The emotes fill out the 7x7 grid on the posting screen and any new ones will have to go on the "View more Emoticons" pop up window. (And yes I know there are currently 2 you can only see in the pop up, but they aren't exactly used for that very reason.)
  17. Things like this are why I'll be glad when the hype calms down. It's also why IRC > Clan Chat if only because of K-lines...
  18. Forgive me for not reading the entire topic completely through as I normally do, but my quick skim of it made me want to add something which will also explain why I didn't read it all. Opinion: I don't think anyone will argue that the search feature isn't really awful. I hate it and have had personal uses for wanting to find a topic creator. One instance was trying to find a guide written by someone and I couldn't remember which board it was in. Not having to look through their thousands of posts would have helped. Now for the comment that was mentioned on another topic but I'll bring it back up here. We're going to be switching to phpbb3 as soon as it goes gold. Release Candidate 4 was just released and if all goes well the gold version should be out within a month or two, according to the information I've read. Without putting words in Albosky's mouth, I seriously doubt he is going to be making any additions or modifications that aren't absolutely required until we're set up with the new software. Making any additional modifications beyond what we already have will only mean more time for him to convert the modifications later on when we move. I've messed around with the new version, and there will be some modifications needed, but a lot of changes people have suggested will be taken care of with built-in features. There will still be suggestions like this one that will have to be looked at again once the changeover has occurred.
  19. I can't speak for whether it can be done; Albosky would have to comment on a confirmation pop up. Personally I'm not opposed to a larger font or perhaps a different color for the warning. My main position about all this is whether people will still pay attention. I might just be really jaded but let me show you why I have this position. The following picture is found via the Contact Us link on the help site [hide=Example 1][/hide] This one is found via the account problem link at the very top of the forum page. [hide=Example 2][/hide] And wouldn't you know it, we still get an unbelievable amount of submissions and reports about people's RS accounts. The tunnel vision involved in this is mind boggling. I'd honestly slap a warning on any and everything if it would prevent people from being taken advantage of, but in my experience it doesn't matter how blatant or painfully obvious you make it. Once you reach a certain level of warning you get diminishing returns on how many people it will help when you create larger and more obvious warnings.
  20. I honestly see the argument you're making, but these fields don't fill themselves out. As Eelspremiers already said, the reason he got contacted was because he chose to fill it out. This probably isn't the best analogy but it's close enough. If someone gets mugged on a street corner that doesn't mean that we should prohibit people from walking down streets or remove the streets. It means you have to take into account the time of day, what area you're in, and your awareness of your surroundings. Your personal choices affect what happens to you to a certain extent and this is much the same way. You can prevent certain obvious things from being publicly spread around which most will agree make sense. For example, posting your address and phone number is not a great idea. Once those are out you have little to no control as to what happens next. With something like an email address or MSN name, you have to contribute to what ultimately happens to you: accept a file, click a link, etc. However, I'm not saying the responsibility should rest solely on the user, if I agreed with that I wouldn't see the need for any warnings. We've had a lengthy sticky about scam emails since 2004 located below the forum rules in the Announcements board. I question the usefulness of repeated announcements because there are always users who don't see the point in reading anything before they start posting. I've had to ban people for selling RS accounts here and their excuse was they didn't know it was against the rules. I'm sure most of those who say that are lying but there have got to be a few who actually didn't know. If after the staggering amount of warnings users have (we even have a minigame based entirely around account security and rules), how effective will some more warnings be around here when we can't FORCE the user to view it like they have to in the game.
  21. Their removal still hasn't been ruled out and was brought up amongst the Administrators after the last announcement about unsolicited emails which claimed to be from Tip.It. The thing people need to remember is that the information is placed there voluntarily and with a warning above it in the user profile field. That statement was also mentioned again by Albosky in the announcement I linked to above. Jagex rules are followed to the most logical extent they can be on this site and forum. However, you have to be careful how far you extend this way of thinking. You can't provide URLs or encourage people to go to websites in game but that's completely ridiculous and impractical to consider enforcing here. As long as adequate steps are taken to warn users of potential dangers, you have to realize you can't protect people 100%.
  22. We've reviewed all the entries, tallied all the votes, and we're happy to present the three winners of the rank contest. There were a lot of great submissions, so it was a very hard to choose, but here are the three that came out on top. [hide=Contest Picture][/hide] FIRST place Look_its_rob: "Bob: Umm Honey? Jill: Only 7,432 more sandwiches till 99 cooking! W00t!1" SECOND place Razoid: "Son! What did i tell you about buying thousands of sandwich ingredients! you know how your mother gets carried away!" THIRD place Chickenman: "Donna, when I said rap battle, I didn't mean... nevermind..." Congratulations you three! We'll be contacting you by PM to arrange your prizes. :D We hope everyone had as much fun participating in this contest as we had reading through your entries. -The Tip.It Staff
  23. The problem with the "with 5kb more I could..." argument is it doesn't really have an end. I dug through and found the thread where this last came up that resulted in an avatar increase. Notice the last post, the sig size limits won't be addressed no matter how good the argument is until next year.
  24. I have to agree completely with Mercifull. That is possibly one of the most annoying things you can do in a forum. It burns, seriously. -.- Posting one liners all the time is sort of borderline, but when you see a one line post next to this monstrous sig it makes you cringe. Like the rest who have posted here I think they're fine as they are, and if anything large sigs detract too much from the post's content. It's partly why I have an undersized sig and very small font. As Cruiser said, it's just a small mark about you; let your posts' content speak for you instead.
