Staking riot
I'm well aware; I never said it was just poor players (still unsure how that's relevant to high stake duels being uneven now). The 1M for the top stakers is limited to the tournament (I'll assume this is correct since I didn't commit the update in its entirety to memory.) The reason that isn't acceptable is because it makes the entire thing dependent on highest level combat. How fair is this? Even Pest Control was divided along lines and that's just cooperative, not competative. You can't stake decently one on one in a way that won't potentially put you against someone far higher than you. They're very much concerned about being fair in so many other aspects of this game but not this one. The difference here is the gp making potential that "ruins the fun and enjoyment of the game as it was meant to be played."

Yes, thank you for being so literal. The same value without a cap. There, happy?

Staking riot
The bickering is kind of sidetracking the discussion but anyways.... This is exactly what I was going to post. If Jagex's intended purpose was to stop RL trading and transfers to mule accounts, they could simply require that stakes be of equal value plus or minus 10%. I don't stake, I've never staked, I didn't intend to stake before this update and even I think this is a really horrible solution to this problem. I don't find earning fast money to be the best thing ever but others do. What do I care if people win and lose 500M gp staking. All this update seems to have accomplished is mandating how you should enjoy this minigame.. Also, if this is any indication of the brainstorming that is going into the Exchange, I'd rather stand in world 2 all day selling things. :?

What About VB?
Sith pretty much summed up everything with his post. If what you're talking about falls in line with what he discussed feel free to bring it up in a PM to an Administrator, which can be found via the Staff List.

Quite true, the best topics can do here is "unofficial" but even then... well you get the picture. Nice point, but locked as anticipated.

Tall's Generic Topic: 90cb 1930 total 99 farming
Massive six month update. Pics galore of the 99 fishing and cooking goals I completed. The goal of all non-combats to 80 got half complete (hunter and con still left) and is on hold for now because a bigger bug has bit... the farming one. Combat is still holding at 90 and will continue for some time since I don't have enough time to spend on ranging lately. Expect the miscellaneous levels to be a bit sparse for a while. Slow and steady this goal will be. :

People whine too much
This seems a bit more suited to rants so I'm sliding it over there. That's why I hated cooking so much, I met the most stupid and rude people while doing it. Glad to be done.

First goal ever
Moving to Questionnaires. And it was getting the level to mine coal and saving up for a rune pickaxe. Good times.

I can't believe there's nothing better to do than spam on this scale. Rethink doing this again or you get the Art Gallery users set loose on you with red hot pokers.

Whats happened to tip it?
Meh, I'm not offended if people don't like my long boring replies and skip them. But unlike an idiot that posts all in italics (which I'd skip for example), this idiot's posts tend to contain information about where things are going in topics like these. If someone can't take the time to read it, the less time I waste arguing with morons. And now the summary for those that couldn't make it through that^ long posts = less illiterate idiots to bother replying to

Guide To Making desktop Shortcuts to runescape worlds
To clear this up yet again (I believe I posted here once before :-k ) - When the rule was changed earlier this year, Jagex had to clear up a lot of confusion regarding the intent of the rule. Its intent was to prohibit bypassing using programs specifically created for that purpose (and also types of stat sigs but most people seem to forget that part). Since the game is browser based and this launches it in a browser window, it doesn't involve 3rd party software nor is it what they were referring to when they changed the rule. We visited this whole line of debate when the rule was first altered and took pains to make sure of what was and was not permissible.

Whats happened to tip it?
I saw this topic as I was skimming the board and I immediately thought of what I said here so forgive me quoting myself: Is that the best topic ever? Probably not. Is it that bad? I think it's worth mentioning at least for the person who got unmuted. A 2 year mute isn't a small thing. I probably wouldn't have anything to add to it so I just wouldn't post. However, at the time of this writing, 5 of the 14 replies are by people who had to post only to say something was wrong with the topic. I'm sure the topic will be locked soon (if not already by the time I finish typing this) and it wouldn't need to happen if people didn't do this. I don't know if people realize this but locked topics take up just as much room on the page as a "crappy" unlocked one does. I'd find it much more embarrassing to make a topic that got no replies as opposed to one that got locked. But, we won't probably get that chance due to the response these types of topics often get. The argument can be made, "But that isn't worth posting about." I think there are some things that are complete spam, "yay I found 1 gp on ground." for example. But what about a story of a bit more meaning, to the person at least? What I ask myself when I see topics like the one I linked to above is whether this would be an issue for popular TIFers. I'll use Leesters as an example (first name that came to mind since he always has popular topics and is well known on the forum). Ignoring how implausible this is, if he were to post that he had been muted for 3 days how many replies of outrage/support do you think there'd be? I can imagine there would be very few if any saying, "who cares" or "where's the discussion?" Now I brought all that up to show that the general TIF populace places a value on some people's posts over others. No shock there, I do it, you do it, we all do it. The problem occurs when a mob of people (users in this case) all place value the same way, ie. Well-known user's post = good, unknown's post = stupid. So how do we determine a fair way to say what gets allowed or not? A) We treat them all the same and disallow them equally and have a forum where people say things are "repressed". B) We let "quality" (well-known people's) topics stay even if a similar topic by a nobody would be removed, and then we have the perfect scenario for favoritism. (Funny enough it would be favoritism by mob rule in this case since the topics that would get locked are those that users force locked.) Now to veer back more toward the question: Why fix something thats not broken? I think part of this is that different people will have differing opinions on how well something works. My take on something might be, "Ok 15 topics about the exact same thing. Can't anyone join a discussion instead of starting an identical one?" If this results in a sticky being made, you might browse the forum and want to start a good topic, but wait... there's a sticky for that. So your thought might be "God that's so stupid what is the point of that, no one even uses it because no one reads it." Herein lies the double edged sword of stickies. People tend to avoid posting on them in many cases. This can make stickies seem pointless, but if you remove that sticky and people aren't forced to post there it can cause a rise in the amount of people making those topics again. It's the whole "woot, I can make my own topic about this" scenario. My point here is not that we have to keep every sticky forever but that apparent underuse doesn't mean those topics won't appear more if the sticky were removed. Also, something not being broken doesn't mean it's perfect, or rather that it should never be changed. I think it's very easy to get into a comfort zone about things (separate F2P / P2P boards for example) and not want any changes because it's "fine the way it is". I don't think we've ever had an idea that we didn't discuss and consider how it would affect how everyone uses the forum. Of course, you have to remember that I, at least, don't use the board in the same manner as everyone else and where I see a useful sticky someone else might see an eyesore. But then again, I get a different use out of them than most users would. So the questions I end with are these: What stickies could we do without? and How will removing some of the more "spammy" stickies ever work with how users react to threads they don't like?

Whats happened to tip it?
I know this post is long but would you really want a trite 2 sentence reply about something like this? _________________________________________________________ This topic caught my attention as I was browsing the board; I was glad to see a topic of some merit when I looked inside (a pleasant surprise for General). I was more pleased to see that Sith had posted. His ideas for the forum are in line with what I would like to see happen for the most part. I always enjoyed his ideas for the community when we would discuss things. (On a sidenote I don't think the community realizes what a good guy they lost in him when it came to promoting a fun and engaging forum.) Personally I can't stand the all-in-one stickies. There are some that are a necessity or just work better that way, but many of them I think kill of any chance of a discussion. I know I'm certainly not going to read through a welcome or farewell sticky. Then you have the matter of trying to carry a conversation with random posts regarding other things popping up. It's hard enough to keep things straight in regular threads; it is why forums generally discourage offtopicness. What could be more off topic than having 5 different aspects of a conversation going on at once? Now taking this and putting it into action gives us another problem. We now have posts that people don't want to read floating around the board. "Five goodbye posts on one page of general? This will not do." The users here can't seem to come to grips with the fact that you aren't supposed to like or approve of every post that does not fit your particular vision of what should go in a board. I sincerely wish that people who didn't like a certain topic would just not post on it; yet I could probably find 15 examples of people doing in on the first page of general. Some users (perhaps due to immaturity, who knows) cannot rest until they have voiced their opinion on why a topic should not be there, or even better that "no one cares". I would think a topic no one cared about wouldn't need that pointed out. :? If someone well known were to post a farewell people would come out in droves to bid them a fond farewell. If someone that isn't know does it then there is a problem. I've seen so many topics locked because of people spamming it with how stupid it is. A lot of these topics aren't really that bad, but the constant spam forces them to be locked (for better or worse). The part that annoys me is that users know they can force a lock if they persist long enough. So where does this leave us? We can start doing something about the people who reply, but then we're back to being overly harsh and Draconian. As Sith said, ideas are easy to come up with but the implementation is hard. A perfect example of this kind of thing happened recently. We tried to merge and condense many boards that had obsolete or similar purposes, and General F2P and General P2P were merged during it. Now some of the greatest cries were about not wanting to read topics they didn't want to. (Again, we have the option to ignore those topics.) Next, we had the predictions that the board's traffic would be too much, and there would be too much turnover on topics. (Oddly, this was part of the goal as explained in Sith's earlier post. People also overlooked the ability to click on page 2.) This of course didn't happen. Shortly after the merge, we had the complaints about the quality of General. The perceived threat to quality threads was "this or that" and opinion poll topics. This resulted in our very own Questionnaire Subforum, which has done nothing more than move them out of the sight of those who only want to see things they value as topics here. The argument went that these garbage topics made it impossible for "real" topics to last in General. My view was that the opinion topics were not the problem and the subforum was fixing something that wouldn't bring about the change everyone wants. So now we have General free, for the most part, of those "horrible" spam topics. So what's left must be a wonder to behold. Now at this point I say to myself, "I don't really see a marked increase in quality threads." I'm not saying there aren't any; that would be stupid to assert. The problem is deeper than having question topics posted. It's the fact that during complaints about the lack of good topics in General, I didn't see as many people posting "good" topics as were complaining about the lack of them. So the question for the users now is, "What is my responsibility?" Well for starters, if people really think there is a lack of decent discussion topics in General, then why aren't you making them? This is where I leave off when I think about these things. Trying to go any further would involve a fundamental change in how this forum's userbase operates. This is the part that gets discouraging because we (Admins and staff in this case) can try just about as many options as are feasible, but we will still have a sizable part of the users who hate it. The problems that are directly the area of staff, such as amount of stickies, are things we should do something about if so many find the forum not to be fun. However for the ones who say General lacks "life" I'll be cheesy and use a quote: "Be the change that you want to see in the world." Find interesting things and start making topics regularly.

My Story.
Some scruples people have around here. Glad to know that "spam" question topics are what drive the Tip.It Community down and not people idolizing someone like this. He currently sells gp, and considering the amount he funnels it's not a stretch of the imagination to say it's bot based. Yeah worthy of praise to be sure. Locking this for all the above reasons. You can enjoy the historical perspective of the story without falling over yourselves about someone who helps make this game worse.

Morphiar; The Ressurection.
Getting a bit tired of blogs being cleaned for reasons like this one. How about we all try something new. Stop spamming and flaming people's blogs because they did something you don't approve of and likewise, blog creators can quit doing things that will anger people enough to spam it. -.-

New Wilderness Update: Player > NPC in Single Area
When I heard about this the only thought that popped in my head was about green autoers. I don't get why everyone's complaining about RC. By the time I get to the mage the skeletons around lvl 1 and 2 have worn off, and I've yet to be pked while rcing. Sounds like a really whiny thing to complain about it since as others have mentioned its effect is negligible. I can't see this as anything more than a far reaching fix to green dragon autoers; wouldn't be the first time an update to stop autoing affected many things.

The Herbalist & Merchant Debate.
When I read this in the BTS I thought what the hell. I get the point of them doing it but sometimes I just wonder why resources are being spent on developing things that most players know how to deal with. Where's my great mining update? Oh, that's right, we needed grimy herbs. -.- I don't see how there's no correlation between the seed prices and no more unids. Some people do buy unids cheaply and then sell the herbs (or use them instead of buying ided ones). This won't be an option after this update; the prices should be equal or perhaps slightly more on the grimy. So where does this person go to get herbs more cheaply than the standard ided price? Well, how about the herb seed market. I've had to hop from one type of herb seed to the next to maintain a profit due to people jumping on one seed and making the price [bleep]e. Just to note I don't merchant unids; I just don't see the need of this update compared to most.

A Question of Morality
Very interesting topic, a nice change for this board. Not having any personal experience DKing, I can only speak based on common courtesy and common sense. I'll omit talking about random people showing up and purposely harmful team members. I don't really get the mentality here. However if what you're saying is as prevalent amongst the DKers you mentioned, I can only call it greed in perhaps 90% of the scenarios. Particularly of interest to me is the scenario where a lone mage is left behind and keeps 100% of all drops after the group leaves. I might be off here but I was under the impression a single person couldn't get there by themselves. If that's true, they owe it to the people who got them there. If these people you refer to would still argue against that then it's just greed.

We have been contacting users as we review the apps and decide against them based on certain things so it wasn't him asking us. :) Post count isn't the sole basis of the decision but if someone has 15 posts to their credit, or is a pretty new user we don't really have a lot to go on to determine how well they would mod. Some of these people might be good but this is pretty much how we've done it before; it's just now they know they were even in the running.
