  2. I took my daughter to a circus once - they had a chest full of snakes. Later, we painted a picture of the circus - i dragged a brown brushful of paint across the page to make a snake. She dipped her finger in the pink paint and dabbed away, saying "I'll do its legs". I guess you know snakes don't have legs, but she was only 4 years old. Snakes do have bones, though... honestly. Vertebrae, mostly, all the way down, but also ribs, a skull and a lower jaw. Why they have bones, I don't know - but I suspect Darwin has more answers than Jagex...
  3. You can take arrows to the island anyway, heads on, but you do need to string the bow when you get there. Check tipits guide to the Lost City quest, which I followed to the letter - if you discount pausing at the Greaters, ranging a few and getting my first lvl 3 clue :)
  4. Ooh, look, a shred of moral decency...thank the multitude of RS gods that there are still some people who would break rules, abuse bugs, devastate other players for their own amusement, steal their hard-earned phats and mock the mods... but not lie. Oh, and as a published poet I would be very surprised if Hobbit had ever been published. Nice try, but if you have any desire to be published you have got to accept productive crticism. There's only a passing nod to scansion, some tortuous lines and a particularly ugly inversion. It most put me in mind of McGonagall ( http://www.mcgonagall-online.org.uk/poe ... saster.htm ).
  5. Well, I read that and thought, oh no, not another feral child loose in the RS world - at least he didn't say "Anyone else would have done that"... Which is it to be? No-one else could have done it, or everyone else would have done it? Or option c) None of the above? There's a disturbing tendency to blame the victims too - I don't really venture into the wildy, but from what I read in here, running away from a PKer isn't a guarantee of escape. How many people carry an emergency tele when they're on R&R in a 'safe' city? If you're just taking damage in a crowd (and it was a lot of damage - ancient magic, yes?), how do you find your attacker? Which direction should you run? Perhaps they thought "well, this is clearly a bug, no doubt Jagex will recompense me for any loss"... More importantly, this is a moral issue that has been raised and they cannot be settled by social democracy or dismissed by personal preference - we all exist within a moral framework, even if we choose immorality as a lifestyle, just as we exist within a gravitational field even when we fly in an aircraft. So, thank you for your opinions, but if they don't stand up as moral arguments they are not worth spouting.
  6. a ball of wool?
  7. It's new to me - thankyou. I've amassed a fair collection - I might finally start carrying them round.
  8. Excuse me, I missed out the word 'it', as in "You'd still be laughing whatever they called it" - whether they called it a massacre or not, I imagine you'd be laughing with durial and at all those people (yes, actual people) who'd put actual hours of actual effort into characters who mean something to them. I was trying to point out that you happily used the word 'kill' to refer to the destruction of pixels. If you don't think the idea of 'killing' pixels is laughable, how can you argue with the use of the word 'massacre' for the senseless mass killing we're discussing? Oh, and I judged you as immature on two counts: 1) you support durial's actions, despite the fact that he clearly broke the rules of the game in order to have 'fun' at the direct expense of others [maturity involves a reduction of that childish egocentricity and an increased empathy with others] and 2) you can't compose a coherent sentence or use punctuation effectively [that's egocentricity and an inabiity to see your communication from another's POV = immaturity] I may well take RS too seriously - it does seem to have that effect on people, generally - but what I'm taking seriously here is the behaviour of the real people in the real world who engaged in that 'massacre', who were victims of it, who have discussed it, condemned it or condoned it. I do take things seriously - that's the curse of maturity, I expect... get a life... LOL - you had to go back some to dig that up...you're a friend of bolshan's, I take it? What a shame your response merely supports my point about immaturity. For what it's worth, I have a life - which is probably why I don't have a phat and wouldn't go on a bug rampage. I certainly have more life experience than most of the posters on this thread - there's that maturity issue again... I work as a life skills tutor for adults with severe learning difficulties - and I'd rather spend time with them than with any of the lowlife scum who have applauded or excused the 'massacre'. Now, if you feel the need to respond to this post, please try to spare more than a millisecond of thought and come up with an argument, some points to ponder, some ideas - or argue coherently with mine. If all you can manage is witless insults, then may I recommend you set out to improve the quality of whatever life you have. Well dude i dont really know you, but you seem to write essays on everything, maybe you should compress your thoughts and make short answers. Believe it or not, some people like to read short sentences to save time. Anyway if you have problems expressing yourself in a compact way, ignore this. Just 4 u den (+ ne1 else who 2 bizi 2 fink): durial = scum. durial fans = dumb kids. You = immature. Better? Debatable... Are the three of you the same person? For the record, none of you know me, but if you want to act from knowledge rather than what 'seems' to be the case, you can check all my posts from my profile - by and large, they're not so large. But some subjects require a little more depth - and believe it or not, some people like to read long posts, when they're well written and raise pertinent points (some people like to write them, too). Certainly, just collecting pithy comments for and against an idea has very little value - unless your egocentric immaturity is satisfied merely by seeing your name on the board, rather than contributing to communication on a topic. If you have any problem understanding this long bit, hey, skip it, nothing important could possibly take so long to express...

  10. Exactly like that, complete with lower case 'j'. Well done :) not bad for a lucky guess. Of course, a mature player would have taken the time and trouble to check for sure... 1) Yes, slang speech is also an indicator of immaturity - as you mature, you will realise that communication between people of disparate backgrounds and circumstances is of benefit to everyone...and that slang, by its very nature, limits communication to people who are part of the subculture that gave rise to the slang. Indeed, you may even realise that the person you need to please with your communication is not yourself (immature ego) but rather the target of your communication (mature empathy). Now, please, explain where the stupidity is and I'll accept that my post was 'plain stupid'. 2) I call it a massacre because that's what it's being called on RS. Whose argument shall we use? Mine - that it's a massacre, because that's what it's being called - or yours - that it's a lot of 'killings', i.e. a massacre? Or your other one, that we should call things what they get called on RS - no, hang on, that's the same as my argument... Maturity may also enhance your ability to argue coherently - here's hoping... When your 'fun' impacts so severely on others then it stops being socially acceptable - and RS is a social game, like it or not, it is not just a game and there is no comparison with using a built-in cheat code on a console game. Do you watch/support a football team? Would you object if your team's opponents starting using knives and knuckledusters because, after all, "it's only a game"? As Raichese has pointed out elsewhere, immature players weaned on a PS2 or Xbox tend to forget that the other people they meet ingame are real - you no more have a putative right to destroy their pixels than you would their garden or their car or their paintings or their sandcastle. I think it's fair to say that 'having fun on a video game' is clearly an activity on the lower end of the maturity scale - nevertheless, I enjoy a little immaturity in my life from time to time. The subject under discussion, however, indicates a dangerous lack of social development in the individual concerned and in those who support his actions - especially when they can't be bothered to construct legible posts.

  12. No, most people wouldn't do the same - most people are, without a shadow of a doubt, significantly more mature than either you or durial. If you would 'kill' everyone, then it would be a 'massacre', by the way - you'd still be laughing what ever they called, though, eh?
  13. Call me a pedantry noob, but it doesn't begin to tell you who's trustworthy - I can see the potential for condemning durial in forums in order to cultivate an air of trustworthiness that is undeserved. On the other hand, it sure as hell shows you who's untrustworthy...
  14. I just built oak shelves 1, and suddenly tea only gives +1 - I'm using what I think is an ugly cup - I was using a white one but now the shelves give a sort of beige cup-and-saucer and I only get +1 from my tea. I'm at lvl 32 - but I managed to get +2 at that level before I changed shelving. I'd already removed both beds, confident on boosting enough to build big oak bed 1 or whatever it is - now me and the servant will have to sleep on the floor. I haven't paid him in days - I wonder if this will be the last straw and he'll stop mooching around and go home to Ardougne?
  15. I always get +2 (tho it does seem that sometimes it drops down to +1 a bit too quickly). It never occured to me to use any cup other than the ones the house provides, but I did read somewhere that tea with no milk gave +2 while weakened or denatured tea (British 'nursery' tea, with added milk) gives only +1. Since I detest the idea of milk in tea, I've never tested it.
  16. for everyone here? that's very generous, malo... :P
  17. I just smashed the keyboard when registering.
  18. mell-eh (to rhyme with 'swell day') surely?
  19. I'm 42. I play because my daughter plays - and like bogdraw I'm streaking ahead of her...no homework :D On the other hand, I introduced my twin brother and now he's streaking ahead of me
  20. I'd love to come. I've got a lot of chocolate cake I'm never likely to use, so I'll bring those, and a few 'interesting' brews (mostly mind bombs, axeman's folly and stout - and if anyone can tell me the point of a slayer's respite I may brew a few of those too). rsn: jiggeryqua
  21. coracles! :D [that's a little welsh river boat shaped like an upside-down tortoise shell] canoes were a wash-out, but you could carry a coracle and get free river travel from anywhere to anywhere...or just bob about with a couple of beers and go fishing...if they do go ahead with POH, you'll want to get away from the housework and relax once in a while, right?
  22. slightly off topic...i looked anyway, even though i knew it was going to be "changing your RS name?" rather than "changing your RS name!" - do you see the difference? back on-topic...yeah, why did you pick it in the first place? hmm...connected ideas...a lack of forethought...
