RS Glitch
I had same problem. It was SUN java conflicting with my MB drivers. So I just switched to MS Java and it works fine.

The Xbox 360, What a Beast
Assuming you have like a dvd player or something with component cables, you can buy a box to convert from the xbox output to component (you'd have to use your existing wires) for like $10. I got one on xtreme geek but they don't seem to have any more... I'd look for something like that. Yeah, thats 10 dollars, expensive IMO now if there was one for 2-3 dollars that would be a good price You've already spent the money on the T.V. why the hell not just buy the cables?!?!?!?! I am a ps3 fan myself, the xbox is fune but I dont like the controler and we all know the xbox would have flopped if they hadn't release halo... Sega is dead, they resorted to making just arcade games now. Nintendo still owns the hand held realm (even though PSP is squeezing right along side) and as for a console, well I guess they will just duke it out like they always have. To be honest I could care less. But I bet those things are going to run darn hot...

Physical Memory Dump Issues.
Well I've done what I can. AVG didn't get rid of 2 trojan for some reason, so I will try again and then if no avail I can try housecall or something else... Heres a HJT log for you. I know there's prolly some junk, and a lot of unessaries but I tried to get what I knew 100% was uneeded. Theres alot of stuff at start up I know I don't need. Well, here it is. Physical Memory Dump Issues.
All right well no that didn't really get me much of anything to be honest, thanks though. I tried starting up and this time windows didn't even get to the login screen before it crashed. After a few more tries I got on, and downloaded adaware SE. I had 6.0 installed, I knew it was out dated but, in all honesty, I'm not really worried about the security on my laptop as I usually use it to test stuff out on anyways, if something goes wrong it's no big deal. Alright, so I went to download SE and twice I tried to run the EXE and the computer crashed... I thought "no way, this isn't a coincidence" I redownloaded the EXE (because it kept getting mysteriously deleted...) and unhooked my laptop from, the router. Scanned, and came up with tons of stuff that wasn't registering before. I also uninstalled some junk that I found on there that I had no clue what it was or how it got there. I will try and get a HJT log and will go scan with housecall as well as keep you guys updated on the situation as it currently stands. Oh, btw, is there a way to get to safemode on 2000 pro (I really know nothing about this OS and rarely do I use it lol) because when I tried, all I got was a screen asking which OS I would like to boot... and I only have 2000 installed so obviously that's the one I chose, but there were no other options like "start in safe mode" or "safe mode with networking" ect ect. Didn't have any ways to boot up either, like "boot up with last known good windows config" and such. I would just put XP on there but I am already using the key for it on this computer... and I don't know if it is legal or not to use it again on my laptop, can anyone clear the air up about this for me? Thanks!

Physical Memory Dump Issues.
All right... well here's the full story. I set up my laptop to run as a server for counter-strike. Along the way of downloading junk I noticed I had some spyware and what not, so I cleaned it all up with adaware + spybot and what have you. I leave for a day or so and I come back to a screen with a bunch of pop up's and stuff. At this point I am like "all well, no big deal" So I minorly clean it up. Adware, defrag, cleanup, so on and so on. Now the other day I go to join my server from my box, and notice that the server is off line. I go to the other room where my lap top is and I noticed that I wasn't signed on the computer for some reason... I sign in, start everything up just fine, after about 5 minutes the computer shuts down. After a couple of tries I watch the computer, and see that it get's a blue screen of death saying "physical memory dump" yadda yadda yadda. So in other words, I have no idea what to do. I don't even have enough time to do much before it crashs. I know it create's a long when it has to dump memory... but I don't know where. I can post it if you guys need it. I don't know if this is a virus or spyware or hardware problem but I would really appreciate some help. Its windows 2000 pro, 1.6ghz processor, 384 MB RAM, 16 meg ATI video card, 13 gig hard drive. It's not running hot or anything like that. Other then that I don't know what else to say. Maybe I will try to disconnect it from the internet for a bit and do some repair work. I hope you guys know what's going on because I am stumped, I have never had to deal with this kind of a problem before so I guess it will be a learning expeirience for me  Thanks guys! EDIT: Also, every now and then when I would boot up I would get a message saying that my drive needed to be checked for errors, so I would let it procede... but that's only when I would shut it down improperly (I.E. holding power button for 5 seconds due to errors or something) Dunno if that has to do with anything or not. I will see if I can at LEAST get you guys a HJT log off the laptop. Okay, that's all. Thanks!

Winamp Giving Me Hell!!
well I didn't want to use a modern skin because it uses alot more CPU, and I mainly listen to music when I play games that already use most of my RAM and CPU. And yes merc, I did try switching to modern and setting the size and changing back. Darkrick, you nailed it on the head, however I uninstalled winamp and installed it on my other HD already lol. All well, but yea that's what wass wrong (can't believe I didn't see that) Thanks guys! I will see you around maybe  Edit: Oh if anyone want's to drop me a line on msn feel free: [email protected]

Winamp Giving Me Hell!!
Phil, I went thought the readme and FAQ stuff but not the forums. Merc, that option is only there for the modern skins (which I don't like because they hog CPU) and not classic skins  I already tryed everything under the 'preferences >> skins' stuff with no avail. Whaa!

Keyloggers and firewalls
Urghh thanks for the popups, Zonda. And I actually block them ! Got a message it couldn't find a file in a message box (suspicious), then it opened 3 windows. :s Couldn't find a file where? And sorry about the pop ups, I need to find a new free host

Keyloggers and firewalls
the suspicious script could have been anything really... There are times when I try to do stuffi n the control panel of my computer and my anti virus will say that I am about to run a "suspcious script" even though it is something made by windows and intended to do something beneficial. I doubt it was anything serious, and if you have scanned with what you say you have then I doubt you are in any harm. It is very easy for virus scanners to "find" trojans/keyloggers as long as you keep your definitions up to date, and you scan your computer in safe mode you shouldn't have problems. You can read some more about this kind of stuff Here (note: That is a site I had to make for school, so there were certain guide lines I had to follow like *must use 1 blah blah blah* so it doesn't look the best, and there are a few typo's because I did it in about 10 minutes  )
-
Firefox quirk, is there a fix available?
make sure you have no spyware, it might be some sort of hijacker? Scan with adaware and spybot in safe mode just to be safe.

mouse jerking up
I believe I did have a suggestion. :? Correction, one person had an answer but was only relevant to logitech mice

What is better: Microsoft, Apple, Linux or Unix?
I am guessing you have never actually used a Mac....

Yea, he is moving his site right now and reworking it I guess. He posted it on the newsa while ago so I guess he is finally doing it.

Would doing this throw off a keylogger?
It depends on the key logger, most likely it would record the you clicked on the browser area or that you alt-tabbed to a notepad window or something... It would have to be an extremly basic keylogger to get messed up by something so minor as that. No, disconnecting won't do anything because it stores the information on your computer. So whether your online or not it is still recording stuff, then when you go online or it gets to a certain size, it will generally email it to the "hacker" for lack of a better work. (lamer? script kiddie?) No... there maybe one or two PRIVATE keyloggers programmed by people to do this, but no... kids download a keylogger from some lamer hacker site, and then set it up themselves. It is incredibly simple yet powerful. Generally a keylogger will record all keystroke, clicks, tasks, ect... vary rarely will you find one designed only to target one individual program because then it is only useful for one purpose. People could either download the keylogger that can get just a RS password.... (thats if they could find it first, highly doubt it. They would have to program it and 99.9% of these dorks don't know what a remark is) Or they could download the one that gets RS passwords, conversations, credit cards, forum passwords, email passwords, messenger pass words, other online game passwords, credit cards, credit cards, pass words, credit cards, and credit cards too... I think that answer is fairly obvious.

mouse jerking up
Okay apparently no one has an answer.... If you guys are all using laser or optical mice, ocasionally a bit of dirt or dust will cross into the beam of the laser, and as it floats on past it, it causes your pointer to dart across the screen. There is nothing you can really do about it, you can't clean it because it isn't actually dirty. Another thing I might suggest is that if your using a laser or optical mouse, don't use any red wood surfaces. Somehow or another it interferes with the laser and can send back faulty info causing your mouse to go bezerk (my friend's mouse would suddenly go straight down and then spin in circles for a few minutes) You can always get a special mouse pad designed for laser mice which will help reflectthe beam alot stronger.

Is satellite internet compatible with runescape without lag?
I have satelite, 3 megs down and 1 meg up. I very rarely get disconnected if ever. The only times I get disconnected is when there is a big storm outside. There is no lag what so ever... I thought I would have crap pings for online FPS games, but then I talked to a friend and he told me he generally gets about 110ms pings, which is very good. On regular home rigged server I get 90ms pings... Say I ping google with 32b, it pings between 112 and 139 pings. However, it all depends on the ISP. When I first got satelite, I was constantly getting disconnected and having horrible pings. I thought it was just because I had satelite and there was nothing I could do. Finally I get fed up and called them and it ended up being some faulty equiptment. They replaced it within a day and I have never had a problem since. If you can afford it get it. We were paying 15$ a month for dial up, and another 20$ a mother for an extra phone line... our ISP gives up 3megs down and 1 meg up, unlimited bandwitdth for 30$ a month, which is cheaper the what we got with our good ol' 28k modem which was constantly disconnecting and downloading stuff at 3KB/s

Any quick computer speed ups?
you oculd always try some of blackvipers windows 2000 and XP tweaks. http://www.blackviper.com Also disable anything on startup that is unneeded, I.E. MSN, AIM, all the junk that hogs RAM when you start up, making it take alto longer

You say hello, I say good bye
Hey all, I dropped in just to check out how things were going. I am taking a break from runescape for the time being so I guess you could say I am semi retired and I have alot of other things going on in my life now that I am starting to move on. Thanks for all the good times, I will try to drop in ocasionally to see if I can be of any help, but to tell you the truth I am starting to get sick of the same old scene with repetitive questions and ungreatful kids who flame you after you fix their problem. I also was recently banned from the forums for 1 week for going "* you stupid *" well, not specifically that but it was censored out none the less so I don't exactly see why exactly I was banned. Anyways, after that I figured it was time to move on anyways, especially with summer setting in. See you guys around, and take it easy.
