  3. I have the tendency to flirt, a lot. So I have given the wrong impressions at times. But I do have a few close friends of the opposite sex and we have never gone and never will go beyond that friendship.
  4. You're assuming greed is purely capitalistic when it is, in fact, human. However, I don't care about greed when I talk about monopolies, I care about whether there is proper room and potential to develop freely and be independent. Under a socialist system the government contorls development, so the ability develop freely is greatly hindered. I like to think of socialism as a franchise. You can start your own business, but you are just a franchisee starting up an already established franchise that is controlled by the franchiser. You essentially are just a manager with minimal control over your individual franchise. That would be a wage or salary. In complete seriousness, are you intoxicated (by anything really)? Because you're becoming more and more incoherent with every post.
  5. Socialism = Monopoly Invisible hand = Monopoly That's where you're wrong. The invisible hand allows companies to spring forth in face of potential monopolies while with socialism, the government is the monopoly. Of course, this is all thinking in black and white when the ideal solution is grey.

  7. Truenoob, I suggest you take a deep breath and then edit what you posted. No reason to be so angry... On topic, I'd like to see a study detailing how much support a woman leader (let's say president) would get and how many people wouldn't support her because she's a woman. That truly would be a measure of how equal men and women are.
  8. Wait, do they require it for basic minimum wage type jobs? Any Full time or Part time employment. That doesn't make a lot of sense when so many minimum wage jobs have such a high turnover and short period of learning how to do the job. I wouldn't mind it though as long as the government subsidizes it or at least give some incentive.
  9. Just say you're a loner. Chicks dig loners.
  10. Wait, do they require it for basic minimum wage type jobs?
  11. Ok, I have to agree that I hate the new styling (whatever happened to the basic truck design of the early 90s?), but it is a good truck, just needs some body work... Of course, I don't like the style of the the Ram either. I've always hated the front end of most Dodges. I love old Chevys, but the new ones really have never caught my eye. I'll probably just end up getting a small truck either the Ranger or Tacoma since I only need one to haul a motorcycle and various other junk.
  12. If you want full size truck I'd either go F150 or Toyota Tundra (although the Tundra will cost a bit more because that aren't as many older ones). Both are excellent trucks and much better than the Ram. Just my opinion, but you can never go wrong with a Ford truck.
  13. Of course racism either way is bad, but being a white male in the US, very little threatens me or bothers me.
  14. You wouldn't be able to hire women aged ~15-50 then. After 50 people start retiring, so you don't want to hire them either. Looks like you'd just have to surround yourself with men.
  15. The problem with that is it isn't always true. If you were to blindly treat someone a certain way off of the assumption that they are more dominant/stronger or if they are more submissive/weaker, then you set yourself up for offending that person or just putting them in a very awkward situation that need not to have happened in the first place. That's how today's society works: off the assumption that all males and all females act a certain way, which is complete bullcrap. However, if you just treat everyone the same and do not stereotype anyone, society should be a hell of a lot more equal in regards to gender. Basically what I got from your statement was: A woman wants to become a construction worker. The man that is in charge of hiring looks at her strangely and says "Ma'am, I do not think that this is the right job for you... How about you look into being a stay-at-home mom and work in the kitchen?" I'm not saying anyone should stereotype. I'm just stating that there are differences. As for the contrusction worker example, contruction is a male dominated job because men are naturally stronger than women. Does this mean all women can't become a construction worker? Of course not. I'm a man and I couldn't be a construction worker because I'm not quite strong enough. One of the reasons stay-at-home moms came about was because unless the family was wealthy there were a lot of chores to be done around the house not to mention kids to take care of. That in itself was a full time job. Now that there are less chores to do around a house and kids can be dropped off at day care, the mom can have time to work at a job (although the US marriage tax system isn't set-up for that). Everyone is different, but within categories. People can be grouped together fairly easily. Outside of public schools, female restrooms are usually dirtier because they use toilet paper almost everytime and it inevitably gets on the ground. Trust me, I'm glad I never had to clean any of the women's restrooms at the movie theater I worked at.
  16. Men and women should be treated equal, but not the same. Men and women are different and I think that fact is sometimes overlooked. Note that I'm not claiming either to be better than the other, but our construction jobs will probably always be dominated by men. There are also studies somewhere pointing to innate psychological differences between men and women (I'll go see what I can pull up).
  17. Hedonism: 1 Depression: 0 What's the difference? If you are fulfilling a pleasure, then why would you be depressed? Edit: I think I get your point now... Are you saying that a being high isn't permanent but depression can be? You're in too deep, man! Pull out! Pull out! Hedonism is, essentially, living life pleasurably. Hence my response to LP's "live to love."
  18. So you only learn about the Christian version of cults, marriage, sex, etc.?
  19. Hedonism: 1 Depression: 0
  20. Then why for the next few weeks are my class going to be talking about marriages (and learnign about them) in religion class? I assume you will be learning about different religious ceremonies bonding people and marriage in general between different cultures? Also, I made my point rather poorly. Marriage is marriage, whether between a man and woman or man and man or woman and woman. Why should a gay marriage hold any significance over a straight marriage or vice versa? In other words, teach marriage the same no matter the participants, but how much is there really to learn about marriage? A few questions: Is your religion class required? What do you learn in it? I ask because I took a World Religions course in high school and we never talked about marriage (it honestly isn't that interesting of a topic).
  21. If enough of the public is educated about the problem, and if enough of the public lobbies for reform, I suspect we will see change over time. Hell, we're already seeing change in some places. It won't be long before a new generation of politicians (those more knowledgeable about these issues) steps in. [hide=2002 Review of Literature]HIERARCHY OF THERAPEUTIC EFFECTS To do justice to the scientific evidence with regard to different indications, a hierarchy of therapeutic effects can be devised. In this overview no distinction will be made between isolated THC (dronabinol) and natural cannabis products. Indications for THC will be regarded as indications for cannabis and vice versa. 1. Established effect: Nausea and vomiting, anorexia, and weight loss. 2. Relatively well-confirmed effect: spasticity, painful conditions, especially neurogenic pain, movement disorders, asthma, glaucoma. 3. Less confirmed effect: allergies, inflammation, infection, epilepsy, depression, bipolar disorders, anxiety disorder, dependency and withdrawal. 4. Basic research stage: autoimmune disease, cancer, neuroprotection, fever, disorders of blood pressure.[/hide] Source: http://www.medboardwatch.com/wb/pages/t ... ffects.php More recent literature: Cannabis and Alzheimer's Disease Cannabis and Multiple Sclerosis Cannabis and Tourette's Syndrome Cannabis and Brain Tumours Further reading: http://www.norml.org//index.cfm?Group_ID=7002 http://www.canorml.org/prop/MMJIndications.htm Hopefully policy making will be more educated, but it could be awhile. That's the medical stuff I wanted to see! When arguing marijuana legality, people should know things like this not just the "it's illegal because the government wants to control the masses and pharmeceutical companies will lose money" arguement. Not that that's directed at anyone in particular, but argue with evidence not conspiracy and misunderstanding of business. Even given that, I say more research!
  22. They don't need to teach gay marriage in schools because there is nothing to teach. They don't teach marriage at all and if they do it's a 1 minute reference in Health class. I get that you're just responding to fear of education of gay marriage, but it's simply an irrational fear (except for that bizarre field trip).
  23. Simple answer: marijuana is not tobacco. Only a fool would think otherwise. The problem is we're dealing with fools. They want to ban cigarettes, which harm very few other people (if any) besides the smoker. What makes you think they would want marijuana legalized? Those Truth commercials (anti-cigarette) are already convincing people that smoking is evil and tobacco companies are the devil. Such as?
  24. I would think it would be a compliment. An awkward compliment, but a compliment nonetheless!
  25. I did sigh heavily, does that count? 1) Why? How does marijuana replace cigarettes? Unless you are suggesting people be perpetually high and smoke in public places. 2) PARANOIA! 3) Might have also been studies paralleling marijuana use with crime and other social wrongs. Bad study, but that's the big reason. 4) You can buy hemp rope. Legally. 5) See my last few posts on "medicinal values." If there are studies that show positive health benefits of marijuana, I'd love to see them. (they might exist, but I haven't seen any)
