  1. In response a previous posting about the idea of a Casino I suggested that RS should have a taxation policy as a psooible way of controlling the RS economy. What do you think about this idea and what taxes do you think would be appropriate and workable? If I get a good idea of peoples thoughts I might even raise the suggestion of taxes to Jagex
  2. I've been thinking a bit more on taxation. A couple of things I think could be possible are : 1) On every monetary transaction a percentage of the money could be removed by Jagex. This would be quite simple to do 2) Bank accounts could be taxed on a regular basis, say monthly or weekly. This tax would also need to take into account, not only the amount of GP a player has, but also the value of the items held in the players bank. Not quite so easy to do, but possible.
  3. I also don't think a Casino is a good idea, as it may well encourage gambling in real life Many a gambling addict has started by playing "harmless" gambling games. Instead of Casinos Jagex could always introduce taxation eg, VAT, income tax, capital gains tax, tithes etc. While this won't affect inflation, it will reduce the amount of GP in circulation.
  4. I didn't write this to get flamed. It is intended to enable people to spot a potential macroer using a simple macro, which is the most common. I agree that there are more complex macros, but if you watch one long enough a pattern will emerge. Howevr, basically these people are after a quick buck and so will normally use simple macros doing very simple repetative tasks. As a programmer by trade I could quite easily develop macros that would be extremely difficult to detect. Howevr, I would not, as I use RS as a diversion away from the pressures of work, and like to join in with the spirit of the game.
  5. Probably this subject has been posted before. Howver, in the current circumstances (jagex changing essence) and a conversation I have just had with a group of people (who didn't know how to detect a macroer), I feel that this ought to be raised. So, how do you spot a macroer? Check the following : 1) Lev 3 combat wearing nasic clothing 2) Always uses the same spot 3) Follows EXACTLY and PERFECTlY the same route back to the bank 4) NEVER runs 5) Ignores random events 6) Character names are in the form xxxxx1, xxxxx2 etc, eg. fred1, fred2, etc. Just watch the suspect and see if more than 1 of the above applies. If it does REPORT the character using the Report Abuse button. Don't be afraid to do it - if the charcter is genuine they won't get banned, as Jagex has ways of obtaining proof.
  6. I agree totally with you. I also try to be self-sufficient. In fact the vast majoritory of items in my bank were either produced by me or obtained as drops. The only things in my bank that do not fit this criteria are buckets and fishing gear, which cannot be made at present (although I think you should be able to), Law runes, which I cannot make so I buy them from Magic Guild, and my trusty Rune pickaxe which was the first thing I ever bought in RS as a p2p (its been with me now for 2 years!!)
  7. You are so wrong on many counts. Firstly, the autoers do not make real money from ess. What they do is mine the ess as f2p, sell it to p2p and the sell the GP obtained from the trades for real money. They don't care what the price of ess is. Secondly, spending money on member subscriptions will not worry these people as by the time Jagex catch on they will have made the subscription money back several times. Once banned there is no mechanism to stop them creating another account and doing the same again. Just look at the flax pickers on p2p and you will always see what are obvious autoers. Thirdly, although I disagree with the $1000+ comment, these people do make considerable real money from autoing. Get into the real world! There are always people who will want quick ways to "beat" a game and would be prepared to spend real money to do so. Haven't you ever wondered why a low level player can afford the items they are dressed in? Thes people are, in my view, sad, but there it is. Unfortunately as long as there are people who will do this, there will always be people who will auto to exploit them.
  8. Try looking on ebay. I just logged in, typed "Runescape" in the search and got 314 items, approximately 250 of which are people selling RS GPs - and people are actually bidding!! I agree with the original post in that simply changing ess will not stop these people spoiling the game. Jagex will need to take much stronger measures to protect the game than that. Unfortunately these stronger measures will also cause whinging and whining, especially, I feel, from the f2p world. This is because stronger measures will inevitably split the t2p and p2p games further. In fact I can see a time when f2p and p2p will become completely separate entities.
  9. Just checked Banshees and Abyss creatures drop Pure ess.
  10. But have you thought - what type of ess will they be dropping from now on? Have Banshees and Abyss creatures got the necessary skills to mine pure ess? :D I would assume that as Banshees and Abyss creatures are p2p only that they will drop Pure essence. I will need to check.
  11. Get your facts right - not all p2p get ess from f2p. I would guess only about 75% Some do mine ess (only a very small number and only usually low lev players), whilst others, like myself, get our ess from drops (Banshees and Abyss creatures being the best).
  12. An excellent update. It should stop a large number of autoers, for a while at least, until they re-prgram their bots for something like yew cutting. However, the only true way of drastically reducing autoers is to stop trading between f2p and p2p. Autoers would not be able to generate the levels of GP that they do if they were restricted in this way as they make most of their gains by using f2p accounts to obtain the item, eg essence, and then selling to p2p players (who are prepared to buy them). If the auoers decided to switch to p2p then they would risk losing their subscription, plus it would be easier to permanantly ban people as they would have to give more accurate personal details to get accounts. PS the update does not affect me as I never mine essence anyway. I always get my essence from drops (either Banshees or abyss) and always craft my own Nat and Law runes for my own use. So, as long as the drops are Pure essence I will be unaffected
  13. All I can say is hard luck. Stop whining and find some other way to make your precious millions if thats all you care about. Personally I care about the game and this update will benefit those who care about the game. ie.those who pay for it.
  14. OK - I admit the Uni horn was not a very good example - I just happened to be collecting some at the time I wrote this. However, the point I was trying to make is valid - with quicker re-spawns comes quicker rare items and thus devalues the RS economy.
  15. You may have noticed the quicker re-spawn rates of several beasts. Great news - or is it? Just think about it. For example, I can now kill unicorns about 30% faster, that means the value of Unicorn horns is effectively reduced by 30%. This in turn decreases the value of anti-poison potions by 30%. However, this will increase the value of Marrantil and Irit leaf (herbs used with unicorn horn). But the overall trend must surely be downwards. Similarly, with other beasts and rare items. Quicker re-spawns mean more killed which in turn increases the number of rare drops and so deflating the value of rare items. So, the question I ask is : Is the faster re-spawn rate simply because of the new quest, or is there a more subtle reason like Jagex trying to devalue the RS economy?
  16. TeeBeaun - yes but someone has to go there first to gather the information Beigo - Not melle, then either magic or range 50/50 chance - obviously got it wrong!!! and yes perhaps there should be warnings posted on the route to let you know what you can expect
  17. Whilst standing in Falador bank, thinking what to do next, I decided I would see what this Temple-trekking mini game was all about. OK - first I must complete the quest, which I duly did. Once completed I went to the Burg de Rott bank withdrew my trusty rune armour and dragon longsword, a few super potiuon, a few prayer potions (just in case), and some food. Now to find someone to escort. Now what - choose a route - so I chose the easiest, just to see what this was all about. No problems, delivered the person sfely to the temple with no real problem. But, hey, only got 5 coal and 5 iron ore for my trouble. That was too easy, so I thought I would live up to my name and take the hardest route next time - what a mistake to make! I started the escort, suddenly I was accosted by 3 giant snails (I think), and before I realised what had hit me I had lost 30% of my hit points with one attack. OK- no panic - just put on protect from melee. Bang! second hit - too lte did I realise thst the attacks must be magic - another 30% lost. Before I had a chance to change my protect I was hit again and found myself waking up in sunny Falador, minus most of my rune armour. Now you may be thinking - what a noob. But no I am level 94 with attack and defence of 75 (upgraded with super potion), strength of 77 upgraded with super potion) and hit points of 78, so I thought I stood a good chance against most enemies - I regularly fight greater demons and blue and bronze dragons (and beat them!). Hiwever, it appears that the enemies on route 3 are well above these. The moral of this sorry tale - don't take route 3 unless you feel like being humiliated and losing your equipment, or are much higher that lev 94.
  18. I use elves. Most people con't be bothered to make the long journey so its quiet and drops are good. Once spent several days there without seeing a soul
  19. Just logged in and tried it again - still got *****
  20. Im trying to compile a list of stupidly banned words - can you all help me. The reason I am asking is that i just tried to apologise to someone by saying "Im sorry I didnt mean to cheat you", but what was displayed was "Im sorry I didnt mean to ***** you". In other words "cheat" is a banned word. WHY !!!!!
