Weekly Poll: Which of the following would you like...
IMO a shops database containing their location, what they stock and what you can sell at them would be a very useful addition to the site. This could prevent players spending more money on basic supplies than they need to. For example, I have seen on many occaisions people in Ardougne bank shouting "Buying rope" when the shop a short distance away sells them (I have even observed people running to the shop and then selling a rope to the unsuspecting buyer at an extortionate price). This is what I voted for. One database that, IMO, would be a good addition to the site is an item drop rate. The Bestuary is helpful if you want to know what monster drops blood runes, but it is not much use if you don't know how often they drop blood runes. For example, if monster X drops blood runes in 10's and monster Y drops blood runes in 5's it might seem that killing monster X would yeild a greater amount of bloods, whereas, because, say monster Y is 3 times more likely to drop bloods, killing monster Y would be the better option. I have been compiling a drop rate database for a while now (for my own use) and have found it very useful for identifying the best monster to kill for various items. For example the best monster to kill if you want Fire runes are the Flesh Crawlers in the Security Stronghold as they drop around 800 Fire runes per 100 kills and at level 28 it does not take that much time to kill 100.

Finding fast Pest Control Worlds using the World Monitor
One slight problem on this. I think you will find that this sort of thing falls into the same category as the active sigs and is therefore illegal. I don't think we should be encouraging people to break the rules.

Is Jagex Over Cooking Runescape?
I agree with the starter of this thread, we need quality over quantity in the updates. I would prefer one or two EXCELLENT updates per month as opposed to the number of AVERAGE updates we get now. We need some more challenging quests. What I mean is quests that really make you think, rather that just running around getting this and that. More quests like RFD would also be good. As for the high-level "whingers", I think that they have a point. Once you reach around 80-85 in most skills you get no extra "abilities" for training the skill. The only exception to this is Smithing, where you get extra abilities right up to lev 99 - other skills should be like this.

Anyone else have trouble playing?
My system has been lagging a bit ever since they changed the music. Before then I had no lag at all. I tried suggesting to Jagex CS that there might be a problem with their music update, but all I got was a general automated response effectively saying it was my system. :wall:

Where does all the money come from?
Yes- but where does the GP fairy get her gold pieces. I suspect that there is an entire race hidden ia a big cavern, hidden in the depths of RS whose sole job is to manufacture GPs.

Tip.It Times Presents: A Midnight Raid
I'm surprised (s)he didn't find a way to include Meddle in there as well. Yes I did. Its continued references like this (eg the obvious reference to "Lost in Space" in a previous article) that makes me think the editor is one of the more "mature" inhabitants of RS. He/she has probably been playing since RSC started.

Weekly Poll: Which Tip.It website feature do you use...
Most of the maps (dungeons etc) are reasonably accurate and easy to use. IMO the Fairy rings map is perfectly OK, however it is time that the world map was dropped, as it gives no real added value over the "Official" map. As for the poll I have not voted. I wanted to vote for all three databases as I use each one on a very regular basis (although I do try to do Quests without using the database).

Tip.It Times Presents: A Midnight Raid
I'm sure they must have uncovered Jagex's plans for flying as a means of transportation. This will be achieved from a new rare drop of wings from a new monster - a Red Bull

World 89 Gone?
..and the answer is 42. Perhaps it is going to be an American language server

Future of the german servers..
IMO the life of the "German" servers will be very short as having particular servers for only a relatively small market is a waste of Jagex's precious resources. What I expect to see eventually is all servers supporting many languages for the game narratives etc. and you just select the language of your choice when you log in. The language you choose to talk to people in game is totally independent on the game's language.

Selling online items and eBay
Great news that ebay has stopped the sale of "in game" items. However, this will not last for ever. Eventually the sellers will find a way round ebay's ban, as has happened in the past. What tends to happen is that a code is developed that will enable the sales to continue. I remember a few years back ebay banned the sale of Live Aid tickets (eventually), but the tickets were soon back on ebay and being advertised so that it was not immediately obvious to ebay monitors what they were. The sellers were using e-mail to spam people telling them how to identify the tickets. I know this bescause I got one.

Mining Injustices
When I mine I don't wear armour because I have found that armour reduces your ability to mine. I have found however that if you wear an Amulet of Glory and a ring of wealth you can mine quicker (i have done experiments to prove this). For example when mining coal I can 1-hit coal about 50% of the time (i am lev 80 mining BTW). So, IMO, for ultimate mining ability wear nermal clothing (no armour), Glory ammy and Ring of welath (and, obviously, use a rune pick). Having said this however there should be a much bigger gap in mining speeds between levels. After all a level 80 miner is much more experianced that a level 40 mine and so should be able to miner much quicker.

should jagex change the way we see players?
I totally agree with you. Displaying total skill level would give other players a better indication of experiance in RS, whereas combat level merely indicates that the player can kill monsters. However, one modification to your idea is needed. You need to display combat level in the Wilderness as it IS very important there. Incidentally the displaying of your combat level originates in RSC where combat could take place anywhere and you needed to know peoples combat levels. I would like to extend on this and suggest that the display also shows the level of the skill you are currently using (don't know if it is possible though). This will stop the annoying noobs who keep asking "Whats your xxx lvl", as it would be clearly displayed.

Runescape in 5 years?
Unfortunately to "poor" graphics is due to the language that RS is programmed in (Java). Jagex have, IMO, pushed Java to its very limits to give us what we have got today. I agree that there are MUCH better games available, but they are written in much more sophisticated programming languages, and in most cases requires the downloading and installing of a massive client (at least 50Mb) on your PC. Now, Jagex could go down this line, ie use a better programming language and produce downloadable clients, but this would defeat the Gowers' whole ethos. What they wanted to produce was a an on-line game that ANYONE could play irrespective of the technology available to the player. In other words they wanted a game that you can play using ANY internet connection (even 56k dial-up), and ANY PC that supports ANY kind of internet browser (for example I have seen RS played on a386PC using IE4). IMO Jagex have fulfilled this extremely well. So, if you want a fancy game that you can play on your super spec PC via a super fast broadband connection that go there, as you are not the target Jagex audience. However, if yoy want a game that is portable and can be played almost anywhere then RS is the game for you.

Runescape in other languages
Everyone here is assuming that because Jagex has created a specific world to test its German version that there is always going to be a specific "German" world. Having a dedicated world for each language wpuld be very expensive and a waste of server resources. IMO the number of worlds (ie servers) will not change. What will happen, again IMO, is that when you log into a world you will get a language selection screen so that you can choose what language you want to have the RS interface displayed in. In other words as far as the community goes nothing much will change as there are effectively "foreign language" communities already, all that will change is their ability to see the NPC conversations etc. in their native tongue. With all this talk of language support when, I might ask are they going to make an American version as most Americans do not speak English

Fighter Torso ruined pking?
You need to lokk at this from two points of view. Firstly, that of Jagex. As someone said earlier the reason for more and more untradeable items is to reduce the advantages of extremely rich people being able to buy the best items. Thus ensuring that anyone with these items has truly worked for it. Secondly, that of PKers. Untradeable items means that the rewards from this aspect of the game are drastically reduced. I am all for Jagex reducing the advantages of enormous wealth, which IMO is ruining the game. I would like to see this idea extended into much more powerful armour and weapons. Perhaps a weapon more powerful than the whip, but requiring say a high level of crafting (eg 80) to make and a high strength and attack level (eg 85/85) to weild. On the other hand I this needs to be balnced to keep PKing a viable proposition, although it does not personally concern me as I never PK. Probably the best way is to make these "untradeable" items "semi-untradeable". By that I mean making the item so that you can sell it to a shop of some kind (perhaps a scrapyard) but not trade it to other players. Thinking - this sounds like a good idea - perhaps I will put the suggestion onto the ROF.

Nerd or just plain bored?
You have obviously never played RSC. It had something called "fatigue", wher after a certain time you had to stop what you were doing and "rest" your character. As I didn't play RSC much I can't remember the exact details, but I am sure there are some "old-timers" out there who can. Howver, this, in effect, introduced a time limit. Needless to say this was extremely unpopular and was one of the things dumped for RS2.

Runescape: teamplay vs lone adventurer
Like a lot of people on this thread, I roo prefer to be a lone adventurer. I do have friends to whom I talk. I also dislike the quests that require help from another person. I have done Sield of Arrav, but to date have not done Heroes as I cannot find someone in the Black Arm gang on-line when I am to help me. I must be one of the highest levelled players (105 combat 1630+ total) not to have done Heroes. I have nothing against the team type parts of RS as (except for the quests) I have nothing to do with them, and if that is what people want then Jagex should cater for them. However, I will be one of the first to start shouting if Jagex starts to "force" me from my lone adventurer status. As far as team games go. The only effective way to beat these games is to use a clan system, ie. all the people in your team are trustworthy and all know what is expected of them in the game. The way jagex has implemented these team games, ie just wait until there are enough popel then go, is not suitable. Because of this you get all the rants like "no-one below lev should be allowed into PC to spoil MY game". However, there is one main problem with teams/clans which is exaggerated by the internet. This is getting everyone together at the same time. If you think try to get a few freinds together from your local area is problematic, try getting friends from the internet together. Here not only personal things interfere, but you have to contendt with different time zones etc. This is what makes games based on teams/clans much more diffucult and why I tend to avoid them.

Runescape in 5 years?
I think that RS2 is "dead" already and has been for the last year. I would give it another 2 years at the most before Jagex realises this and bings out a new version (or even another game entirely). The problem, IMO, is that Jagex are slowly making the game too easy just to satisfy the "children" who want everything immediately. Soon it will be "click" .. "click" - Congratulatiosn you are now level 99 in skil X. If Jagex want to save the game they should go back to the original ideas of the game. The original ideas of the game were to take a character with no skills whatsoever and develop that character, OVER TIME, into a well-rounded and competant character within the RS community. NOT lets see how much money we can make (which seems to be the driving force of most of the more recent players). IMO in order to improve the game, and thus increase its lifespan, some drastic measures need to be taken. Some of the things I wouild like to see happen are : 1) remove the "rares" from the game - these are not part of the original idea of the game, but were created in error by Jagex. 2) remove all the mini-games - these are, in a lot of cases, a quick experiance gain and, to be honest, detract from the role-playing aspect of RS. I cannot think of any other game of this genre that has these type of "in-game" games. If you want to go play these sort of silly mini-games there are plenty out there on the internet. 3) restrict trading to buying/selling in in-game shops and buying from player owned shops - this would immediately remove the aspects of the game that cause things like luring and scamming and thus, in the long term make the game more attractive. It would also get rid of beggers, as you would no longer be able to give free stuff and it would make the beggars actually work for a living. 4) increase the number of long hard quests, whilst at the same time making quest rewards better - what I am talking about are quests in the format of Recipe for Disaster. The format of the RFD quest, where you require different skill levels, etc for each part, if expanded would encourage players to "go back to the basics" and start increasing their skills again. 5) expand the wilderness - in fact I would even go as far as saying bring back the RSC idea of "wilderness" everywhere, with a few "safe" spots. However, linked to this players should have the ability to choose what items they wish to keep (up to a linit, of course) when they die. 6) remove all links between P2P and F2P - in other words common items (eg logs, weapons, armour ect.) in each version are unusable in the other. 7) less updates, but better quality updates - I would rather have 1 quality update a month than weekly updates of dubious quality. Before you start to flame me, I know some of these are contentious and would, in reality not happen (for various reason), but just consider how much better the game would be if they were implmented. I also realise that some of the suggestions would make the game "harder", but if that detracts a few of the immature "I want everything NOW" players who, in the RS community, really cares (apart from Jagex, who want to make as much money as they can). RS2 is dead - long live RS3!!!!!!!

Ever asked yourself why?
I play for relaxation. Its good to come home after a stressful day at work and lose myself in the fantasy that is RuneScape. I do agree that the community is not very good, but I do my part to improve it whenever I can. I will help people who ask for help, and as someone above (can;t remember who), I will help people with quests by guarding them in dangerous places, if they need that help. I also, when the mood takes me, give away free stuf to those I feel deserve it (but NEVER to anyone who asks for free stuff). I fact, I surprised someone this evening by giving them, totally unexpected. a full set of Rune as I knew the amount he offered me was his total wealth.. The cries of surprise, and the number of times he said "Are you sure?" and "Tyvm" were music to my ears. I know I will never get ruch (gp wise), but I am rich in the knowledge that I have done my little bit to help the community

Egg hint?
humpty was a cannon that fell from a tower in the English Civil war.... i think they will be used in the FAR future actually from what i heard humpty is king george and he became insane or fell from the throne and all the kings horses (idk) and all the kings men couldnt make him sane or put him back on the throne...or something like that lol dude is correct. From Wiki : According to an insert taken from the East Anglia Tourist Board in England, Humpty Dumpty was a powerful cannon during the English Civil War. It was mounted on top of the St Mary's at the Wall Church in Colchester defending the city against siege in the summer of 1648. Although Colchester was a Royalist stronghold, it was besieged by the Roundheads for 11 weeks before finally falling. The church tower was hit by enemy cannon fire and the top of the tower was blown off, sending "Humpty" tumbling to the ground. Naturally all the King's horses and all the King's men (Royalist cavalry and infantry respectively) tried to mend "him" but in vain. Other reports have Humpty Dumpty referring to a sniper nicknamed One-Eyed Thompson, who occupied the same church tower. Visitors to Colchester can see the reconstructed Church tower as they reach the top of Balkerne Hill on the left hand side of the road. An extended version of the rhyme gives additional verses, including the following: In Sixteen Hundred and Forty-Eight When England suffered the pains of state The Roundheads lay siege to Colchester town Where the King's men still fought for the crown There One-Eyed Thompson stood on the wall A gunner of deadliest aim of all From St. Mary's Tower his cannon he fired Humpty-Dumpty was its name... A but of local history for me!!!!!

The complete "Should F2P get updates?" Debate! 5,000 views!
TO kam42705 In your calculations on how much money is available to JaGex you missed out one very big expenditure - its called TAXATION. I would say that approximately 20 to 30% of the money coming in would go out again to the government.

February 14, 2007 German Language Beta Launch
Jagex obviously have their reasons for doing German first, proably a percieved larger potential. Your assumption that there are more potential players from China than German speaking countries is INCORRECT. Although China has an enormous population around 95% of it is very rural with no access to the internet (and the government intentionally keeps it that way). The only people with internet access are those in the major trading cities like, Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Also, as these are major trading cities the majoritory of the people would be able to understand English.
