February 14, 2007 German Language Beta Launch
To those people who want a German world, or a Finish world, or a French world etc. etc. and hoping they will get one because their language is/will be supported. IMO I doubt very much that will be the case as it would be a waste of Jagex's servers. What will happen (again IMO) is that ALL languages will be loaded on ALL servers and you choose your language when you log in.

February 14, 2007 German Language Beta Launch
I doubt we will see a Chinese version very soon. This is because the Chinese "alphabet" is so complicated with a multitude of regional dialects. In fact some regional dielects are almost different languages. There is a standardised Chinese language, but only people in the most "westernised" areas use it. Another problem is that, although China has a large population. the use of the internet is severly restricted by the Chinese government. It is also very censored and discourages free speech, so there is a good chance that RS would be banned, and access barred. For these reasons the market in China is very limited and not worth the translation effort. Additionally the few Chinese players on RS would be from countries outside China and would speak the language of their country and not Chinese.

How Did You Start Playing Runescape?
Good old Google search for RPG games way back in the mists of time. I was looking for an on-line RPG game to play. I tried several, but they were all so slow with massive clients that took an age to download on my 56k dial-up link (no multi MB broadband then). I eventually cames across this game with the strange name of RuneScape which did not require a massive client and simply downloaded into the browser in a matter of minutes, so I tried, got hooked and the rest, as they say is history....

My National Heads Of Runescape List, hosted on RSC!
No he means Sealand - a small so-called country in the North Sea just off the East coast of England. It was originally a war-time fort. Someone bought it (cant remember when) and declared it an independent country.

Banned for playing Runescape on Linux?
Well as Linux is far superior to Windows you probably are breaking rule 7

Does Jagex Listen to Feedback?
Just a few comments on this 1) Jagex will only take notice of suggestions raised in the Official Forums Suggestions forum. So if thagern wants Jagex to notice his bank idea he MUST post it there (if he has not already done so) 2) Is anyone here a software developer? If so then you would realise how mucj time it takes to develop even the simplest idea. thagern;s bank idea looks great in theory and the designing of the screens would not be too difficult. However, redesigning the underlying database, without affecting anything else is extremely difficult - ask any competant database designer. 3) Jagex probably never uses exactly the same designs as users propose because they understand the Runescript language (as they developed it) and the ordinary player does not. However, thagern's bank idea is excellent and I am sure Jagex has noted his suggestions, and I am sure that they are developing a new banking system, In fact I am sure I read somewhere that they are going to make changes to the bank some time this year. We will wait to see if it bears any relation to this idea.

Tip.It Times Presents: Jagex and Emergent Gameplay
A good article with some interesting thoughts. Unfortunately the article concentrated too much on the combat aspect of the game saying how "emergent gameplay" was being stifled by Jagex. What the author and editor did not consider is that ther is already a large area of "emergent gameplay" in RS. This is the area of merchanting and especially rares which is definately not what Andrew considered when he created the game.

Now That SwiftSwitch Has Been Changed....
Technically, the situation has not changed in regards to 3rd party clients as Jagex DOES NOT RECOMMEND the use of them, due to the risk of keyloggers/virus etc that could be hidden in them. All they have effectively done is to say that using 3rd party clients is not a bannable offence UNLESS it interacts directly eith the underlying game coding. Anyway I do not and never will use a 3rd party client - I am as cautious as Jagex and won't risk the integrity of my PC. NOTE - I have NEVER been hacked in 4 years of playing RS, so perhaps my caution is worthwhile

Interfaces and Spooky Update 16 january 07
[sarcasm mode ON] What's wrong with you guys. No flaming Jagex on their latest interface update  Is it that Jagex have achieved the impossible and pleased everyone!!! [sarcasm mode OFF] I mostly like the changes. The only thing I don't like is on the skills where the text no longer changes colour to indicate where you are in the skill tree.

Weekly Poll: Do you use a third-party client to play RS?
I don't use 3rd party clients and never will. I might be pranoid, but I do not want to risk any virus's, keyloggers etc being installed on my PC. I have far more than my RS account to lose. However, I would probably use a client with additional; facilities if Jagex were ever to produce one, or endorse one. Even then I would only download it from an official Jagex web page. That way if anything does go wrong, ie. my PC picks up a virus due to the download, Jagex can then be held responsible. Another thing to consider is that I cannot see how Jagex can detect that you are using a 3rd party client. In other words they were only declaring it illegal to prevent its customers being deceived into downloading malware, and possibly covering their own backs. From the poll results it seems that only around a quarter of Tip.It users, so why all the fuss? Obviously three-quarters of the community are quite happy using IE (or FireFox or any other web browser).

Technically, there are no "maxed out" players
I agree with this EXCEPT, IMO, for the rare. Rares are only a player created thing and not officially part of the game

should 99 cooking/fletching deserve respect?
To paraphrase a well known phrase : "All 99 achievements are equal, but some are more equal than others" If 1 see a level 99 skiller I look at their other related skills. Typical sets are fishing and cooking, smithing and mining, farming and herblore (lots of high herblore skillers grow herbs), woodcutting and fletching etc. Anyone in this category gets a lot of respect from me as they have played the game in the way it was intended. On the other hand if you see a level 99 skiller with low related skills level, then obviously they have "bought" their 99 skil. Anyone in this category does get respect from me, but not as much as in the those described above. Finally, anyone with combat skills of 99, but no other skill levels to speak of will get no respect from me, as any idiot can wander around killing everything in sight (or play PC for a few hours).

what could be new skills they could add?
As has been pointed out, all the serious contenders for new skills are basically extensions for existing skills. Even the nicely thought out "Tailoring" skill is really an extension of the crafting skill. One idea of a "skill" that could be useful is "Luck". This would be levelled in a similar way to hitpoints, for example, in fishing, every time you get a fish your luck increases. The "Luck" level could be used in many ways. Examples being fishing, mining, woodcutting etc would be faster as you "Luck" skill level increases, or in combat the higher your "Luck" level the more chance you have of hitting harder (or defending better). However good this sounds though I don't think Jagex will ever include it as it would fundamentally change the game. On a lighter side how about a skill (especially for irritating immature noobs) called "Patience", or pehaps we could have a "Scamming" skill, or even a "Luring" skill.

Low-Leveled Members?
What's so special about combat? #-o I agree - there is nothing special about combat. Unfortunately the majoritory of people in RS think like morons and assume someone with high combat must be mature, trustworthy and have a good knowledge of the game, This is obviously not true as a lot of high level combat people are just products of Pest Control. An alternative to capping at a combat level, perhaps Jagex should make every member take an IQ test and only allow people above a certain IQ to become members. I'm sure this would remove a lot of the immature noobs and under-age players.

Checking out other peoples levels and names..?
Yet more examples of the misconceptions that can arise by using Combat level as an indication of how good a player is In your level 3 name examples either one of them, or both, or neither of them could be autoers - you just can't tell by combat levels. Mind you it might be just as difficult using total skill levels. Similarly a level 20 may not be a complete noob as you suggest. It might just be that they have been playing for years, but only just started combat training. In this case showing total skill level would show up the misconception. Remember the adage "You can't judge a book by its cover". or translated to RS "You can't judge an avatar by its name (or combat level)"

Runescape's biggest competitor?
There is no serious competitor for RS as it is unique (see a previous thread on its uniqueness)
-
What makes runescape unique?
Most of you are getting off the point. What makes RS unique are simply 4 things : 1) There is no need to download a massive client 2) You don't need to buy software (unlike WOW - you have to pay around ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã15 to buy in the first place) 3) The fact that it is java based 4) You can play it forever for FREE (unlike WOW where you can play free for only 30days before you HAVE to buy a subscription) All this means that RS can be played on ANY PC (old or new), it can be played anywhere that has an internet connection of any speed (until recently I played RS over a 56k dialup link) and you can play it for free for as long as you want.

what do you think the next melee wepon will be?
An Uzi would be nice and so would a tactical nuke    Seriously I don't think we need more melee weapons - we have enough choice as it is. However, I think it is about time we had a more powerful Range weapon, perhaps a Dragon bow with hit properties similar to the whip. Its an awful long time since we had decent new range weapons. EDIT - on second thoughts an Uzi and tactical nuke are range weapons - at least I don't think hitting a monster on the head with a tactical nuke would be sensible

Checking out other peoples levels and names..?
I also hate how people are judged by their levels and my idea would not change that. However, being judged on your total skills level would be better that just judged on the basis of a small sub-set of skills. As for the taunting - how would anyone know from your Total Skills level which skills you have not trained? Answer - they wouldn't. In fact just displaying your combat level will draw attention to the idiots who taunt based on Combat levels. My idea would remove the harassment that Combat level 3 "pures" get, things like "xxxx must be a macroer he's only lev 3 yet cutting Yews", "OMG a lvl 3 pmod what are Jagex doing making a lvl 3 pmod", "xxx is a noob only lvl 3" etc. Again, I agree there should be no parallel drawn between Total skills and Combat skills. I used to get fed up being told that my Combat level was too low (at Combat Level 50 my Total skill leve was around 1500). I don't get that now my combat level is 100+. However, my suggestion would not stop this either. So, what you want is no level displayed at all then (except in Wildy)? Because this is the only way you would stop all the problems you have highligjhted
-
Checking out other peoples levels and names..?
I have posted this as a suggestion on Jagex forums, but obviously nothing has come of the suggestion yet. Showing total level would indicate how good the player is overall whereas at the moment all the players level indicates is that they are good at combat. I have come across several so-called high level players with 100+ combat, but very little else, who go around bragging as to how good they are at the game. They are probably only good at Pest Control

Most boring skill!
IMO the most boring skill is Firemaking (as well as the most useless). The only reason I do firemaking is for quests. Others that used to be close runners up are Agility and Thieving. However, Agility gets less boring when you can do the Brimhaven agility dungeon - its much more fun that running around in circles on agility courses. Also, Thieving has become slightly less boring now with the introduction of Pyramid Plunder.

How many of u will actually play on X-mas day?
In a lot of European countries (eg. Germany) Christmas Eve is traditionally the main focal point of the Christmas period.

What's Your Runescape Regret
In the words of a famous song : Regrets, I've had a few But then again, too few to mention I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption I planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway And more, much more than this, I did it my way I think that says it all
