"No begging" as one of runescape rules, good idea or not?
Now folks, there is one thing you are all missing. RS is a ROLE Player Game. If someone really wants to play the role of a beggar, then it is not right that anyone should stop them. Just so long as they do not break Jagex's rules on harrassment or spamming. Lets face it IRL there are some people who use begging as a "profession", and sadly manage to make a living out of it. So why not people in RS. Perhaps Jagex should add a "Begging" skill

Jagex's Response to Player Graphics and Ecomnoy
Who cares if the economy crashes - I for one don't. I nevr buy my raw materials, and rarely sell anything. The only people this would affect are the people that play just for gold, ie merchants, and merchanting is not a "real" RS skill and those who "buy" their skill levels, which is not really in the spirit of the game as originally devised by Andrew.

Interview With Andrew
I shall re-iterate : Jagex gets ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã3.20 per member whatever the payment method. If you pay more, for example, to use phone, the additional money goes to the service provider. In other words they "only" get ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã3.2 million per month Also, you are very naive if you think that their operating costa are ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã1M per month. Lets break down their probable costs : 1) Tax, National Insurance, employee pensions etc, as required by British law : ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã1M 2) Support staff costs. Lets assume that there are 200 support staff each being paid ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã1500 (about UK average for support staff) : ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã0.3M 3) Game programmers/designers/testers. Judging by the amount of updates produced I would estimate around 100 programmers being paid, say ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã3000 per month (again about UK average for Java programmers/designers) : ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã0.6 million 4) Server costa I will make the assumption that F2P servers break even. That leaves 65 servers at a minimum (you need test systems). I would estimate that servers cost around ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã1000 per month : ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã65000 5) other overheads. Building rental, equipment etc. Based on where they are located in the UK I would estimate at least ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã0.5 per month Adding all these together produces an operating cost of approximately ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã2.5 million. Still a healthy ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã1M profit per month though. However, bear in mind that these are "educated" guesses not hard facts. The costs listed above are probably not all the costs involved with running a company that need to be taken into account. Due to this I would be very surprised if the company profit were ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã1M per month, its probably less.

Interview With Andrew
On the subject of the cost of members. The charge made by Jagex IS US$5 per month (or whatever that translates to in your local currency). Anything over that goes to the companies used for the transaction, ie. if you pay by phone the excess over US̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã5 you pay goes directly to the phone company. I pay by direct debit from my bank account and it costs me ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã3.20 (which is roughly US$5). On the subject of macroers/gold farmers etc. If the people playing RS did not buy the RS gold from these traders then the trade would cease. This would mean that Jagex would not need to spend time and money tracking down the macroes and RL traders and thus have more money to spend on RS (and even make better graphics). So basically it is the minority of dishonest players of RS that are affecting the updates available to the majority.

And I'm fed up with people picking on me all the time because I actually have opinions unlike a lot of people. Make my day, and stop flaming me personally, it's just annoying. It wasn't my intent to flame you personally, I was just using you as an example of the particular genre. If you feel personally insulted, then I apologise.

Interview With Andrew
Congratulations to Jagex on reaching 100000 members. =D> I'm fed up with people, like the poster, whinging about the RS graphics. Graphics are not the attraction of RS. If it was then no-one would play it. There are a lot of other MMORPGs on the internet with fantastic graphics (we all know what they are), but I have yet to find one with such in-depth gameplay as RS. Before you flame me - yes I have tried these other games and normally get bored within a few weeks, but RS has kept my interest now for more than 4 years. RS is unique in the MMORPG field, so lets consider its attractions : 1. The game can be played anywhere on any PC - all you need is an internet connection (any kind) and a browser. I know of one person who plays RS on an old 386PC with windows 95 and IE4 over a 56k dial up internet connection. Many of the other games require large amounts of disc space for a multi MB client and have minimum specifications for a PC and network connection. 2. You can play the free version forever if that is what you want. Most other games have a maximum trial period after which you have to become a member or create a new charcter and start again. Others only let you reach a certain level and no higher unless you pay. 3. The cost. Membership of RS is a mere $5 per month. Most of the other games are at least double, if not treble this. 4. You don't have to purchase an initial game before you can play. Some of the games require you to buy software to install on your PC at a cost of around ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã30 and THEN make you pay a subscription 5. Regular updates (whether you like them or not). I cannot think of another game that has such regular updates. 6. Content. RS has a greater depth of content than any other game I know of as there a multitude of things to suit all types of player (some even that Jagex did not anticipate like merchants and "pures"). All in all, IMO, these attractions far outweigh the minor probelm with the graphics. As for getting $5M per month is concerned that is gross income, not profit. From that Jagex has to pay for servers (currently around 140 of them), network bandwidth, staff costs (in the region of 200-300 people) and the cost of accomodation for all those people. I would expect that these cost would use up around 95% of the initial $5M.

Your Highest Rank on Highscores?
My highest ever ranking was 5753 in Farming las April. Farming is still my highest ranking at (currently) 7089 (lev 76 farming). On the other side of the coin, my worst rankings are for Woodcutting (lev 77) and Fletching (lev 72) at 214325 and 215166 respectively.

Increased Gem Drops.
I have been studying drop rates for some considerable time now by recording all the drops I get when training/slaying. From my findings the drop rates for items remains constant. The only time the drop rates change are after major updates that affect a prticular item In this case it is gem and half keys drop ratios which have been increased by 50%. All the evidence I have points to Jagex purposely increasing drop rates during the first week of any update like this. They also change spawn rates sometimes. I am sure everyone remebers the increased spawn rate, for a few days, of monsters when the Rag and Bone Man quest came out. I do as it enabled me to finally get enough Unicorn horn to use up all my Marrentil leaves

How JAGeX should development RuneScape.
But a lot also return from that game once they realise that graphics are not everything. IMO RS has far better gameplay

Increased Gem Drops.
That's an interesting observation, although it's been a very long time since i've killed any Moss Giants. Here's some suggestions to help with your experiment: 1. Kill 1000 Moss Giants, using your melee equipment with not gem drop boosting items such as an Amulet of Glory and/or Ring of Wealth 2. Kill 1000 Moss Giants, melee, with one gem/rare drop boosting item such as an Amulet of Glory OR Ring of Wealth 3. Repeat #2 but this time use the other gem/rare boosting item. If you used the Amulet of Glory in #2, use the Ring of Wealth this time. 4. Again kill 1000 Moss Giants, melee, this time using both gem/rare boosting items. The reason why I'm suggesting that you kill 1000 Moss Giants each time is because a large sample set will help you determine the probability of a gem dropping from a Moss Giant. Also, each setup will help you find out how each gem/rare drop boosting item affects the gem drop rate. By the way, #1 is considered your "control" data set because the gem drop rate will not be influenced by external sources. This will also help you compare results from #2 to #4. EDIT: Ah that's right! Thanks for the clarification. So to change the experiment parameters, remove the Amulet of Glory and only use #1 for the control set and use a Ring of Wealth for the experiment set. Again, having a very large sample set will increase the accurracy of the drop rate. One slight problem with this he can't compare drop rates NOW with drop rates lbefore the update (unless he has a time machine) :wall:

Increased Gem Drops.
The answer is definately yes and by about 50% (I keep records of all drops I get). For example Banshees (which I kill a lot of for their Pure Essence drop). Before the update I got, on average, 1 gem per 100 kills, now I am getting, on average, 2.

Post YOUR Runecrafting Setup.
I don't use abyss so : For Nats (using Zanaris bank and Fairy Rings): wear- Nature tiara, Dramen staff + any clothes that weigh nothing In backpack : 3 pouches + essence (45 nats per run) Method : Run bank to Fairy rings - Fairy ring CKR - run Fairy ring to Altar - craft runes - run to Fairy rings - port back to Zanaris - run to bank For Law (using bank in Seers, house in Rimmington and Port Sarim boat): Wear : Law tiara + any clothes that weigh nothing In backpack : Air runes, house teletab, 3 pouches + essence Method - From bank teletab to house - run from house to Port Sarim - boat to Entrana - run to law altar - craft runes - Camelot tele - run to Seers bank (41 Laws per run) NOTE - each method requires 1 Super energy pot per run I don't bother to craft lower runes + I can;t craft deaths yet.
-
where would you tele?
No it wouldn't as you have to go all the way around the village to get to the altar. The quickest non-abyss way to craft nats is using the bank in Zanaris and Fairy Rings. Anyway I vote for Shilo village, or in fact anywhere on Karamja as there are no teleports to that island. Perhaps a normal teleport to Ralekka, or maybe Miscellania/Etceteria.

Weekly Poll: Which version of our quest guides do...
So, let me get this right........ A lot of you want the new format, but with more pictures/hints/tips etc. etc. In other words THE OLD FORMAT :wall:
-
Is the cooking cape killing fishing?
You could have said this much more simply. It the old, old economic law of sypply and demand. In this case the supply of sharks is greater than the demand for them (prices drop), whereas the demand for yews is still (just) greater than the supply (prices stay constant or rise)
-
Second Accounts?
And how on earth would you support a main, and all your oures on one bank. There would be no way to keep all the armour, random event clothes (that you eventualy accumulate), supplies for training various skills (a full set of runes, your ores and bars, hammer, chisel, etc). I can tell you it is quite difficult at the best of times(since my main does everything f2p and is always prepared for all types of combat, pluss the hordes of random event clothes. But I didn't say using the current bank did I? Obviously the bank size would have to change to support multiple characters.
-
Weekly Poll: Which of the following would you like...
I suggested this when the Items database can out. However, it was pointed out to me, by a Tip.it moderator (can't remember who) that it was unnecessary as you can do that already. Just enter the item name into the Bestiaty search box and the search will produce a list of monsters that drop the item.
-
Second Accounts?
IMO I think Jagex should allow a number of characters per account (say 4) which all share the same bank account This would immeduately get rid of a couple of the rules (6 and 8), which are mostly unenforceable anyway.

Mini-Games: Treasure Trails
Coordinate clue 24 58 North / 18 43 East Add that you will need a lockpick to enter the Pirates Hall as its very annoying to get there and find that you can't get in. I know - I just did that :wall:

prove your veteran status.
Can't remember when I started, but I was around for all the classic holiday drops, crackers (ie party hats), santas, scythes, bunny ears, yo-yo etc. I even remember half-wines (never could get the point of those!). If I only knew then what I know now - I could be extremely rich as, unfortunately I lost interest in holiday drops and alched the lot as I needed bank space, The only thing I can't remember are the disks of returning, so I must have joined after those.
