  1. If you have ever played "bounty hunter" as Jagex calls it in real life you will know that it is nowhere close to pking. This game is going to be stupid because you will have friends who refuse to kill each other so the other friend will win. This game will also depend on how many stupid people even understand how to play because if you have a dumb person trying to kill you, its not going to be hard to stay alive even if you stink. Pking is a 1v1 battle with no rules. This is not going to replace pking. How can you play "bounty hunter" IRL :wall: Also, how do you know what the mini-game will be like - I don't. I'm not speculating on what the mini-game might be like. Rather what Jagex may intend it to be. What if they do :-w . I can just see all the F2Pers saying "woot another F2P upgrade" until they realise....... :-w This makes absolutely no sense. You don't ruin a billion-dollar product to promote something that's not even out yet. This just isn't done. Period. I agree I agree RS2 would not be the same without the Wilderness, in the same way veteren RSC players said RS would not be the same without PvP everywhere.
  2. Looking at the lastest BTS and the introduction of the Bounty Hunter mini-game and Clan Wars has got me thinking. Are Jagex covertly bringing in things that will eventually replace trading and the Wilderness? Lets look at the evidence : 1) Jagex are battling with RWT 2) The GE is introduced bringing a controlled (and easily controllable) trading mechanism into the game 3) Bounty Hunter - Jagex are introducing a mini-game that is, in effect Pking, and probably looks as if it will enable Jagex to control what people can lose. 4) Clan Wars - Jagex are introducing a method where clans can have battles in a relatively "safe" area. Again some control on what people can lose is possible. Now when (note I say when and not if) these updates have settled in I can see two things happening : 1) The GE will become the preferred method of trading for the majoritory of players and 2) Bounty Hunter and Clan Wars will become the preferred methods of PvP conflicts for the majoritory of players. When each of these things occur I can see Jagex asessing the impact, on their players, of ending direct player to player trading and the Wilderness as we know it. When they assess that the impact will be minimal (or something they can absorb) then we can say goodbye to these things. What do you think - am I being a "doom merchant" or is there something in this "conspiracy theory"? Please - no flaming - I just want people to think about this and make constructive comments - not just "you are a ***** this will never happen"
  3. OK. It was just a thought. Obviously Jagex has a performance issue with their systems. Hopefully they will be aware of it and will eventually solve the problem. My only concern now is with the upcoming Summoning skill. This will add even more load onto the systems and if the GE is causing lag problems (which seems likely from what people have said) then Summoning will make it worse.
  4. I am based in the UK, and whenever I try to use the USA servers I get a lot of lag. However, when I use any other server I find everything is OK. Perhaps it would be a good idea to try and record the servers where lag problems occur then we could provide accurate information to Jagex so that they can identify and resolve the issue.
  5. Using your brain will get you further than your mouth will  Theres no need to get personal. :x It's not the first time someone has come up with an "official" statement to try and bump prices of an item.
  6. I diasgree. Gold trading (at least in worthwhile amounts) can easily be stopped. We already have the Duel Arena blocked and the GE for trade. All Jagex has to do now are the following : 1) Dropped coins are immeduately destroyed 2) If you are carring coins when you die those coins are destroyed 3) No direct transfer of cash between players via the Trade Screen. You would still be able to trade between players, but only on a "barter" basis. ie. no cash involved This I think covers all the possible ways to transfer large amounts of cash.
  7. OK - you want a controversial thing that Jagex can do : Make F2P a separate game with no iteraction with P2P at all. :-w Reason - 90% of the bots/gold farmers are F2P because its so easy to create lots of accounts. At least with P2P people have to pay, by some method for their characters. If people have to pay then Jagex have a way of detecting and auditing people who apply for accounts (credit card details, bank details, postal addresses etc.) and banning them even before they get going. I actually suspect Jagex is doing something like this with applicants for members accounts as there are now very few botters in the P2P world - I personally have not seen any for about 3 months. Can you imagine the controvesy if they were to do this
  8. If you continue to do this then it is possible that you will be banned for abuse of the Report system. Jagex not only keeps an eye on just the reports, they also keep an eye on who is doing the reporting. I know of at least one person who had a temporary ban for this. I do agree with the author that RS players are getting too paranoid about bots (or whatever you want to call them). I also agree that combat level is not a good indicator for characters and should be replaced by something else, or even nothing. After all the only time you need to know someones combat level is in the Wilderness. The display of combat level is a throwback from RSC where combat was possible almost anywhere. IMO there should be no displayed level for characters (except for combat in the Wilderness), instead we should have the ability to "click" on a character to display ALL their skills and levels. This would make the detection of bots by players easier, ie some one ranked in, say woodcutting, but nothing else is a very good candidate for a botter.
  9. As a lot of people have mentioned the genre of MMORPGs contain alot of similarities. However, despite these similarities they all have unique traits that no other game has. The similarities in most MMORPGs are in the following areas : 1) PvP - all MMORPGs have some form of PvP whether it be something like the Wilderness or Duel Arena 2) Monster killing - all MMORPGs have some form of monster killing. In fact some of them are purely combat based (either PvP or monsters) 3) Trading house - all MMORPGs have some form of trading house, RS is just a bit slow in getting one  4) Quests/Missions - all MMORPGs have some sort of questing/missions. However, IMO, the RS Questing system is the best as it has a lot more variation. There are probably other generic similarities between MMORPGs but the above were all I could come up with at the moment. IMO the things that make RS unique from othe MMORPGs are : 1) It is browser based - all other MMORPGs that I have come across require a multi MB download to start (which means you have to have a lot of free disc space on your PC), require high quality video cards, and a fairly high spec PC to run on. RS being browser based has none of these requirements. 2) Membership is the cheapest around - ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâã3.20 per month compared with around ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâã15 per month for the other game I play (EVE Online). I can't compare with WOW as I have never played that. 3) You can play for free FOREVER - all other MMORPGs allow you to play free for a limited period of time then insist that you start paying membership. For example EVE Online has a 14 day trial period. 4) Lots of unique quests - other MMORPGs have quests/missions, but they are not normally as involved as RS ones. Again EVE Online has missions, but the variety is very small compared to RS quests. There are probably other things that make RS unique but I cannot think of them at the moment.
  10. This is one of the reasons why I think there should be branches of the GE in other places. Having to keep returning to Varrock to check your items every day is a pain.
  11. Pros : I have been able to empty my bank of all the TT rewards, and miscellaneous items (its the first time for ages that I have had free space in my bank  ) No standing around in banks continuously typing selling I am able to get on with the important things in RS life, like improving my skills, monster hunting, quests etc and still sell my unwanted items. Items sell when I am not logged in Cons : Keeps telling me that my items have been sold when they haven't All the autotyping merchants that used to be spread around the banks in RS are now all in one place. People not understanding how the system works, ie continuously telling everyone that they have items in the GE in order to try and sell them quickly. As a lot of people have said some of the prices are a bit "off", but I am sure this will stabalise eventually Annoying having to keep going to Varrock to put items up for sale. I have visited Varrock more times in the last few days the in the previou couple of months  . It would be good if we could have branches of the GE in the major cities, say Falador, Ardougne, Keldagrim and the underground goblin city. IMO this is one of the best, if not THE best, update Jagex has ever produced for the game. I for one will never again waste precious time trying to buy or sell items in the old way and I am sure a lot of people will feel the same way.
  12. Not exactly "hidden" though - is it? :wall:
  13. It will for a while as everyone is clearing out their banks of items that have had for ages and never been able to sell, because they did not want to waste their time standing in a bank continuously typing "selling xxx". I am one of those people  IMO, once this initial surge is over there will be plenty of buyers for your goods.
  14. I'm sure that a lot of people do not know what an autoer/macroer is. I think that their opinion is that anyone who is doing a repetative task, like mining, and ignoring them is one. I am combat lev 110 with all skills in the range 68-80 and have still been (allegedly) reported for macroing simply because i did not talk :wall:
  15. Where did you hear that :|.? 3 hit u answer that please. Naw, because that would be telling :-# Don't pull a Muggi... =; I was planning on revealing it, but you guys blew it :| He's probably got a load of ashes and just trying to manipulate the market so he gets a good price :-w
  16. My first death was to that dratted highwayman at Draynor crossroads (same as a lot of other people it seems  ). I got my revenge a few days later after levelling up my combat stats. In fact when I walk that way I can't resist killing him "for old times sake", even though I'm lev 110 now and completely "own" him.
  17. Can't be bothered to go through all pages. It appears that seed drops for some beasts have been removed. Notably Cockatrice, Black Guards and Falador Guards. I don't know when this was done. I have created a thread in the Web site corrections forum, so if anyone finds more examples, please put them there so that the TipIt crew can update the beastiary.
  18. Merchanting is not dead. What is dead is what I term "scam merchanting". ie. when someone puposely persuades an unexperianced seller to sell their items at an unrealistically low price so that they can make a massive profit. The main effect that GE will have on merchanting is that profit margins will be tighter, but a SKILLED merchanter (and those prepared to gamble - as in real life) will still be able to make money.
  19. You are correct Duel Arena WAS intrduced to replace the duel anywhere from Classic. Again before WOW was even released. The GE is not a copy of WOW auction house. It is actually closer to the EVE online trade system. However, as someone pointed out most MMORPGs have trading systems similar to the GE. IMO it is about time Jagex caught up with the rest of the MMORPG world as systems like this make trading easier and safer.
  20. Prices are bound to be a bit "off" for a while, but will soon settle at "normal" prices. Although I think at + or - 5% it will take a while. IMO the price range should be greater, say around + or - 20%. I agree that some of the prices are strange, but I should imagine these prices are the average over quite a long period of time, probably in excess of 6 months. I think this because of the probable length of time it has taken to develop the GE. As for manual selling - whats the point? You will not be able to sell for more than the GE sells for because who in their right mind would pay more than the GE (or shop) price for items. One thing it looks like the GE has changed is the vast profits made by merchants. Merchants will still be able to buy low and sell for higher, but they will need to keep a good eye on the market trends.
  21. Are you serious? Do you know how easy it is to change your ip? Please read upon things before suggesting it. =; I agree, IP banning can NEVER work for two main reasons: 1) it is easy to change/use proxies etc. 2) most ISP's use dynamic IP addresses, ie. every time you restart your router you could get allocated a different IP address. There is one piece of information that is unique to your computer. It is called your MAC address. No two network devices have the same MAC address. However, in order to be able to do this you would somehow need to register RS against this address. With current Java technology this is impossible to do, although some software suppliers that do not use Java do have a system for registering against MAC addresses.
  22. I totally agree. Change happens, get over it and adapt, or die (aka quit). I hate the whiners who rant over every update. After all they are only a small minority of the overall community. The majority of the RuneScape community just get quietly on with their gaming and adapt.
  23. db986 - nothing to add It appears that Jagex have been going around nerfing some beasts do that they no longer drop seeds (a hidden update!!!!). So far the list appears to be : Cockatrice (from a previous thread) Hill Giants (from a previous thread) Black Knights (found by me after killing approx 500) Edit - another one : Guards (found by me after killing approx 500) I would be surprised if these were the only ones. Moderator - perhaps this could be added as a sticky, so that anyone finding others can put them here and use this as a reference so that there is no duplication.
  24. Yes Hadn't thought about that - obviously my mind is not devious enough  OK I agree, in priciple, about yew logs (or any other thing that can be "gathered"), but not whips as they are not easy to get. However, with items having to be sold via the GE it should be quite easy to detect someone dealing in suspiciously large amounts. I agree lootshare is not the cure all. But using my thoughts you would still be able to give your chain drop to your friend, so long as gold is not involved with the exchange. I disagree, it is merely the day RuneScape changes. People already playing will either adapt or die (aka Darwinism). However, new people, will find no problem with the changes I have mentioned. I for one would adapt to changes like this, as all the trade options that exist now would still be available, but not all in one convenient place. If however, player to player trading was removed completely, I would be one of the first to leave.
  25. From hints given in BTS and by Jagex moderators themselves Jagex are trying to get rid of gold farmers/autoers by hitting the RWT ability to transfer large amounts of RS gold to their customers. The Duel Arena was one way - which has now been closed. The Grand Exchange will be another. The Grand Exchange, IMO, will give Jagex the visibilty of ALL trades where items are sold for gold, as they will be carried in a central place. A log from this can be generated. Thus they will be able to instantly spot "unrealistic" purchasing, eg. ashes for 5M, and immediately ban those people. In fact it could be done automatically (although I would not like to trust that), ie. someone pays an exaggerated price (say more than 50% above the markets average price for the item) for an item - buyer and seller get banned immediately. IMO, as Jagex are simply trying to get rid of RWT gold sellers, the player to player trade could still remain, but be modified so that only items can be exchanged, ie a bartering system. This is what was trading, IMO, was envisaged to be when the game was created. Hence, I agree with people who say player to player trading will not be scrapped - just modified to remove the possibilty of gold transfer. As I have suggested in other threads the transfer of gold by other methods such as drop trading and PKing could also be easily solved by making it so that any gold dropped would be destroyed. You could still drop items. This, combined with the GE, would go a long way to solving the RWT gold seller problem, without alienating the people who play RS.
