  1. wot hath i started :wall: , but really, no...just no.
  2. I'm cool enough to copy a format from, eh? Anyways, the idea of facism is hilarious when you just look at the concept of it. I have nothing serious to say here, except NAY.
  3. Physics and chemistry are equally rawsome. Anywhere from quantum physics to studying chaotic theory of sub-atomic particles. I REALLY HATE these sciences when taught it school. Sure they teach you the basics but who the {bleep} cares how fast a 15kg ball rolls on a 30 degree slant in comparison to a 31. Biology is pretty cool too, and math of course is a necessity for all of these.
  4. What am I pretending to do? You kept arguing with me after I pointed out that it only applies to pure selflessness. Maybe you should look back at my posts to Tripsis because I clearly agreed that it is more selfless than it is selfish. You probably don't even know what my main point was - our actions reflect our desires and wants so of course we have ourselves in mind when making decisions. And no matter how you slice the cake, a want is a want. This quote contradicts what you just said, and you can see why I said what I said, please don't modify your argument anymore, and I don't want to litter this thread anymore with this kind of argument. I don't really wish to continue but if you do please PM me so we can avoid further spam.
  5. Never mentioned "pure" in your previous posts and obviously edited your argument and pretended that you've always held that belief once proved wrong. I'm totally open to multiple viewpoints, but changing your argument to make yourself look correct pisses me off.
  6. That's why I said saving your brother would be the less selfish thing to do. Anyways, my point was mainly about pure selflessness though. I've also looked up the word while I was making posts and it made me think: By saving your brother and him wanting to save you, you are making the decision to be the more selfless one which is a pretty selfish decision. No, also by saving your brother and sacrificing your life, it would also be correct to say you're being selfless.
  7. Yes. I'm not adding a negative connotation to the word at all. I'm just saying our actions are based on our desires and that in turn constitutes as "wanting to do something because it benefits you someway somehow". Like I said, it's just weird like the word "nothing". It can be true that it's not selfish to want someone other than yourself to live and have a good life, but it can also be true that it's not selfless to want someone to live a good life. It's a still a want. I will agree that it's less selfish to want your brother alive but I still think wanting him alive is some form of selfishness in one way or another or else you wouldn't be making that choice in the first place. Zierro you're wrong when it comes to the flexibility of the word unselfish/selfless. Selfless, according to the dictionary, doesn't mean absent or gone from ones own desires completely, all the word means is having no or little regard to oneself, altruistic, generous etc. On the other hand, when the word nothing is used to describe an area of conceivable space, it entails that no matter, light or anything may exist in that space. If you applied the rules of the definition of the words selfless and unselfish to nothingness, you would find people describing the liquid in an almost-empty bottle of soda as nothingness. Weird as it may seem, unselfishness is not the polar opposite to selfishness, because that would be inhuman. It seems the connotation of the word has been loosened due to this fact.
  8. Not necessarily, LCD's for instance, don't use CRT's. And he didn't discover cathode rays, he invented cathode ray tubes.
  9. Link me to another "communism thread", and don't spam. And discussion of a type of politics doesn't make anyone here a wanna-be dictator, or even communist at all. Anyways, at the whole baggers vs. doctors debate- People want to be happy, they want to be content and without bore the most possible. Does becoming a bagger, and bagging for the rest of your life really sound fun to you? In a communistic government money is irrelevant when it comes to careers, its only about interest, enjoyment and servitude. Who do you think would be more respected? Who, generally speaking, would be more content with his or her job? There would be an obvious social hierarchy, but instead of the main variable being earnings, it would most likely be based upon skill, servitude and the impact in which the job has on society more so than in a capitalist economy. Other "communism threads": viewtopic.php?f=10&t=774938&hilit=communism (I haven't bothered to read it all but judging from the posts which I have read, it turned into one) viewtopic.php?f=10&t=773343&hilit=communism (see above) viewtopic.php?f=10&t=771419&p=6275679&hilit=communism#p6275679 (and again) viewtopic.php?f=10&t=770726&hilit=communism (same as above, but specifically about socialism/communism rather than turning into one) I can find more if you'd like Communism benefits no-one except the central planners who run it. Yeah, that really made me lul at the sheer lack of logic. If you were to make a thread about something like....."The vows of marriage", but then I said that there are too many threads about marriage and or vows and linked you to a thread about Gay marriage, The Definition of Love, and the laws regarding marriages. Its pretty idiotic.
  10. Are you going to answer me directy or is "get bent" about as enlightening as it gets? For you to presume that other people with outwardly genuine feelings about something are all BSing is absurd, and it only makes you out to sound bitter and twisted about your own experiences. I have an idea for you. Every time you, sonerohi, ever say that you're happy, I'll deride your claim by calling it BS. Because clearly, I know the way around your banal, bitter little thought processes better than you do. If you would read my post, sir jackass, you'd see that I said it's their deal if people actually feel that way. What I said was it pisses me off for the warm fuzzy people trying to feel overly important for something like simple deskwork. You are perfectly allowed to feel happy, but when you try to go around glorifying your volunteer work is when it pisses me off. You're right, actually. I was angry and didn't read your second post propoerly, all I really took notice of was "get bent". Sorry about that. Wow, someone who called you "sir jackass" you apologize to on the same page. A good deed indeed, in the middle of a flame war on a thread where it is totally relevant. Warri0r, your amazing. And as for sonerhi, in my eyes, from what you're telling me, the only person you really care about doing a favor for is your friend and not the people your charity work is benefiting. Motives for helping someone you actually have an established relationship is totally different than working for someone that you will never see. And because of this difference, you really have no right to tell people "oh my charity is harder than yours". When really, the mindset of someone doing a more simple charity job, such as serving food (in my opinion) would have a step-above someone who is doing harder charity where they directly are benefiting in a relationship.
  11. Sorry but I agree with Tripsis. And perhaps your gain is a positive gain. Perhaps your motive is to provide a good example for others and for your own children to carry on the butterfly effect that you're projecting in to the world. That's a great gain in some way, isn't it? I'd have to agree with l0rd. I think people are inherently selfish and will do good things (charity) for that good feeling. It's not neccessarily a bad selfishness, but selfishness nonetheless. There are exceptions of course, but most people do not do charity purely for the work itself. I think the people who always say the 'It gives me a good feeling/warm feeling/fuzzy feeling etc.' are BSing it. I do volunteer work all the time and it feels like crap. I move crates in a warehouse that provides food for nearby families that have financial problems. Every time I go and work there I feel like killing all the people who go 'oh its so easy for us to help you and it makes us feel so good'. You have to sit at a freaking counter and give them directions to the food distribution room. [bleep] you. If you had to do some real damn work you would hate helping others. Your denying that people get a "fuzzy"(good) feeling when volunteering? Many people don't focus on such the physical side of things, and their emotions and motives outweigh their temporary unpleasantness. And your hostility doesn't help anything, nor do you have the right to define "real work" and say that I haven't done it. If this "emotions>unpleasantness" idea doesn't apply to you, then I'm guessing your required by your school or parents to do the volunteer work. Am I right?
  12. I take it you're being sarcastic. Perhaps you should go read up on the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation. It's one of the biggest charitable organisations in the world, and Bill Gates has been ranked as the second most generous American philanthropist behind Warren Buffett. [1] No, I said Bill Gates followed by the "roll" emote because it is so evident that he belongs on this thread, and no one has said him yet, even when disregarding his charity.
  13. Link me to another "communism thread", and don't spam. 14. Its a physiological fact that almost all charity work is done by the volunteer to gain in some way, whether it be to reassure oneself that your a "good person" to becoming "great"; selflessness is almost nonexistent. Probably not the nicest thing, but I can't think atm. Hmm, well when I was 7-8 I found a fifty dollar bill in a grocery store, brought it to the desk and no one claimed it. So I was able to keep it, then on the way home from the grocery store I saw a hobo with his dog at a red light walking by the car, I rolled down my window and gave it to him. I forget what he said. Another one when I was little and went to Mexico, we were staying with a poor family for about a month. All they ate were beans and rice, we ate meat once that month as a special occasion (you get the picture they're REALLY poor). So before we left, and was saying goodbye to the little boy I had made friends with, I gave him all my toys(like a whole backpack full), which were all the toys I had pretty much(including a gameboy), because I felt bad that he didn't have any. Side note: I HATED THE MOVIE PAY-IT-FORWARD!
  15. Eh, never heard of her, sounds pretty successful though. You a big fan of hers? I tend to not like old movies/shows. I also tend to not be phased or care about the death of people I don't know, whether it be the death of my favorite actor to a kid in my city that I didn't know.
  16. I stopped reading here. I've argued this half a dozen times in the General Board - RuneScape is not Communism. And that's where you should've kept reading, because nowhere in my post did I compare Runescape to Communism. Yeah, you explicitly implied Runescapes economy to be Communist, where its really no where near. Runescape's economy is more capitalist than anything else.
  17. When I become emperor, you die first. Ironic. :|
  18. LOL @ 3 different girls. But anyways, I have my hair like the middle one (non-[bleep]ed), looks the best in my opinion.
  19. Communism is a very controversial topic, simply due to its past failures and reputations brought upon by nations. I'm asking you to dissociate the synonymy of "bad" or "evil" from communism and try to give a thought-out opinion, taking in the facts, the benefits and the downsides. [hide=Personally]Personally, I am not willing to sacrifice my economic and social freedom for the welfare of my citizens. A capitalist economy works out fine for the United States, and becoming "something" is still a dream many people hold in the back of their minds. So I'm going to have to say nay.[/hide]
  20. FUNNNN CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL.
  21. Belongs in gallery or something  Heres transparency, I have no idea what a 14-layer is though because I'm a picture noob.
  22. I concur, but when comparing them to other forum moderator/admins, they aren't that stringent. One thing that has really been pissing me off is the looking-down upon bumping old threads by moderators. In the "guide to posting in Off-Topic Guide" it says that you should not repeat a thread if you feel the discussion value is still there, instead you should search and bump and old one. I have seen moderators lock threads simply because of the date it was created, despite rich and renewed discussion value.
  23. And a fantastic Festivus
