  1. I love animals, even flies, snails, toads, rats and so on. I don't exactly need slugs, but i wouldn't harm them either. Mosquitos i hate with a passion, but who doesn't? I do eat meat (again. I have been a vegetarian for some years), but i wouldn't want to meet the guy who kills what i eat. Animal cruelity? Imagining a living being in pain causes me pain. People who are hurting something are basically hurting me. Sometimes i wish i could walk around and "panic gaze" (the power of ghost rider) people, so they could see what pain they are causing. They'd go mad. Fools. "Why are we so blind to see that the ones we hurt are you and me." =P A circle of suffering that causes more suffering. Yeah! EDIT: I'm totally against animal testing of drugs, cosmetics or whatever. I believe the end doesn't justify the means. Period. A word about leather. Cow skins are basically a waste product. You have to pay the meat industry, so they don't ruin the skins, wich would be cheaper.
  2. What a Bloody player, thats how i want to die :) That is him with two of them.. He claimed to have slept with about 2000 different women during his life, wich is believable, judging from what is known about him. The guy is incredible...
  3. I got to bring this up once more. They are a really awsome band. I think watching the videos even the english speaking audience here would find some meaning in their songs. Also i put some effort into the translations (wich was fun), so i'd like to see if this actually means something to anybody.
  4. Yah.. okay.. but the thread is supposed to be about people you think do something awsome for a living.
  5. It seems most people earn their living by working for some company, basically selling their time. Some like their jobs, some don't. However this thread isn't about people with regular jobs. It's about those that inspire you, because you think what they do is cool. Everybody has different standards. Just tell about those that come to your mind and that you find particular fascinating. For me that are always the people who happen to become rich. That doesn't necessarily mean yours have to. They just have to be able to easily live off what they do, without having to worry about money. Andrew Gower. I read a report saying that he and his brother Paul are worth a bit over 100 million pounds together. Sure he did go to college, but his success comes from toying around with JAVA in his free time. It seems that he put lots of work into his small project and made smart decisions all along, nevertheless he created a computer game. I imagine it to be far more rewarding to build a computer game then to actually play it. Again: He became rich creating and expanding a computer game in a fantasy world. Runescape. There are 1 millon subscribers. I think he is 28, so he's around my age o.0 Andrew may be rich, but Joanne K. Rowling is even richer. Unlike Andrew she didn't work hard at all. She doesn't have to care about a company, she doesn't have a customer support. All she does is writing books, wich she really seems to enjoy. Otherwise she probably wouldn't have start writing a new one. She imagined a cool fantasy world, with lovely characters and finally wrote a book about it. In the end she became filthy rich, wich wasn't exactly the purpose why she wrote at all. It was just what she wanted to do. Getting rich was merely a by product. (I guess that's the same with Andrew Gower. Another of my all time favourites is Hugh Hefner, the founder of Playboy magazine. What he did seems to be the following: He though: "Okay i envision my lifestyle to be like that. Why not make a magazine that displays my vision?" So he patched together his magazine and it was a tremendous success. A couple years later he was living in his playboy mansion, surrounded by beautiful and willing women, wich he still does today. Now, at the age of 81 he has three girlfriends, all in their twenties. Writing about these people i noticed a bit of envy in me, wich certainly isn't exactly a good thing and the thread isn't about that. It's about inspiration. There are ridiculously cool ways to earn a living. Post whatever you find cool.
  6. Music probably is a cause of the stress. Working on music full time AND having a day to day job is just a bit much. It might be a bit of a leap into the cold water, but focusing on one of these two things will reduce the amount of stress drastically. I mean it's just so: lol! Yeah i know. Everybody needs money, but there are different ways then getting a day to day job. Everybody will tell you that you should do what you are good at, that you should do what you love. It's a complete waste when you spend your time working at McDonalds.
  7. I'm loosely connected to a community of architecture and art students who have some contacts that always come up with very well paid one time jobs. Last thing was for example to dismantle the equipment of an IKEA photo shooting. Pay was 100 ̢̢̮ââ¬Ã¡Ãâì for one day of work. Money was of course given under the hand. Ask around at university. There are always some projects that need a helping hand - there are always people, who know people. The kind of flexibility you are looking for is something a regular job can't give you. Just keep your eyes and ears open and opportunities will come.
  8. I know a very lovely girl the age of 23, married and having her own company, who just looves spongebob. EDIT: Wait.. You write, what you just wrote (about nerds, spongebob and such) on a rs fansite?!
  9. I spell it Skater boy because i'm cool like that 8-) . Interesting observation you got there on trying to hard. Oh.. Guess i get the point of the video then.
  10. In my book "coolness" is a trait of people who won't let themselves be confined by written or unwritten rules and do whatever they want whenever they want to. This requires most of all self confidence. It is very possible to step on somebodies feet or at least offend people when you do what you want. Somebody who does that all the time might be cool, but is most of all an [wagon].
  11. It isn't. If you are unsure then don't do it. Don't be unsure about anything though.
  12. Well after i listened to your music i'd say that: You are a musician, so no matter what problems you got, make music. You are good at that. Your music has meaning, unlike most of the random pretentious junk they make nowadays. It makes perfect sense. You are under "loads of stress" and your music is almost the definition of tranquility, wouldn't it be for the touch of sadness. I believe your music says something important and can hardly imagine what oh so important thing could cause you stress. I mean it can't be as important as your music.
  13. I'm not scared, I just don't want to get f*cked over in the long run. So you are afraid you'd get [bleep]ed over in the long run? O:)
  14. "Also sprach Zarathustrah" by Richard Wagner Ah okay. ...although it's not quite correct. Goethes poem is called ode to joy. I don't know exactly how the poem met the 4th act of the 9th symphony. EDIT: Oops - Ode to joy is by Schiller. Oh well.. Goethe and Schiller were friends anyway.
  15. Imo Skater boy had a lot of heart. I found the song refreshingly natural. The album was pretty authentic, well at least some song were. Her punk image never was of course, but the feelings seemed to be. "Girlfriend" neither has heart, nor is it authentic.
  16. I'm sure she would if she could. But if she quits her current job, the family business goes down the drain. Even though the business isn't doing great, it at least makes sure we can eat every day and helps a little with the bills.. ...better the buisness is going down the drain then your mother is.
  17. Omg I remember That, Big News her in England too well the escape of the girl was lol yah. Quite a story. Could have been out of a movie. No wonder the media jumps at this.
  18. I have seen her picture in a signature her on tip.it Incidents like that make me remember how greatufl i am that i trashed my TV. In Austria we had a similar media hype about 10 years ago, where a girl about the age of 10-12 was abducted. Recently she surfaced again. Turns out some guy build a room in his basement where he held her as idk what. Already 18, she could escape, the guy killed himself and we had a huge media hype again. I forgot her name though.
  19. Ode an die Freude lyrcis by Goethe, music by Beethoven (9th symphony)don't know how it is called in english (ode to joy or something probably)
  20. I never heard the name McCanns before. If you start a topic like this, it would be nice to provide some links, so that everybody knows what you are talking about.
  21. probably isn't exactly the kind of music people on here listen to. Anywaay.. I kinda liked Skater boy and even found the whole album nice. I thought her to be cute and liked her style. I just stumbled across a this video of a song called "Girlfriend". THe song is super lame and in the video she basically just [bleep]es about somebodys girlfriend, whilst hopping around in an "I'm oh so sexy outfit". What happend to the sweet girl she seemed to be?
  22. There certainly would have been more diplomatic ways to settle this. Instead they just used their superior power.
  23. I know man, it's seriously disgusting. The cops are charging him with resist of arrest... Lulz? Well he did resist the arrest. Question is if the arrest was justified. If it isn't the question is: Shouldn't it be justified to resist an arrest that wasn't.
  24. This makes me sick. Mindless officer drones, apathic crowd. None dared to step up to big brother.
