In response to the "it was written by men argument", people put their trust in the holy books because they believe it is the MESSAGE of God.

Owned, darkmage. :P And what exactly do you mean by this? Some people actually do believe the bible is the literal, unedited word of god. On point one, by all means, Satenza, go ahead and kill people if you want. I mean if that is your religion. But that does not override the law. By that, I mean that because God did not write it, does not mean it is false. They still believe it is God's message, right?

That is totally different. You are still free to speak other languages, but you must no English. In religion, I think you can only be one religion. Besides, they are barely the majority.

And for the record, I'm not following someone elses belief blindly, especially since my own opinion about God is completely different. That's why I pointed out that I don't follow the Christian view of God. --- I smell contradiction. And I hope you realize that beliefs are subject to change through analysis. I used to believe in the Christian God. Through analysis though, my view changed, and I saw God very differently. There's no way of knowing if I'm right then, now, ever, or never. That's why I live to defend my belief, but not to be so narrowminded as to not think I could be wrong. Back to the first point... Reb, people BELIEVE in God. That means their life is God. They live and die for God. That is kind of the point of religion. So do I. Doesn't mean I'm arrogant enough to think I know what that God is or wants. IF you don't know what your religion wants from you, then you are doing a lousy job following it. You should know what God wants. But the message is so elaborate, so fuzzy, so complex and blurred by man's opinions and translaton that no one can understand it fully and be right, and still prove to everyone else that they're right. Formulate your own translation? Actively search. The point is not to prove to others your belief is right. That is impossible. Oh, and in my personal opinion, we need to believe in something to survive, but the odds of us being right are so slim that we really shouldn't trust too much in those beliefs. So you think we need to believe but shouldn't because it's probably wrong? What is the point of finding a belief but then not pursuing it because you aren't sure?
