While you may gain more experience through fire runes, you will gain more profit (through multiple runes per ess) and more experience per hour (with a closer altar) with air runes. Wow, that is one of the biggest and worst opinions on this forum. Pures are oftentimes a waste of time. For example, a fishing pure is a complete waste of time. Why not get 99 fishing on your main? But combat pures can be useful in the wilderness if they are properly built and well used. Since I can not see the original poster's question, I can't comment on his case specifically.
