  1. So I can make a valid point and it's disregarded as "whining"? Is that the level to which you must stoop to stomp on my argument? I've made my point, and nobody seems to have noticed it: It can EASILY make the difference between life and death in the wilderness. If you're going to deny that then obviously you must have a screw loose. The main reason I haven't become a member has nothing to do with my inability or unwillingness to pay the money: I can and I would do it, but I'm so disgusted by the attitudes of many of the ones I've seen toward f2pers and even each other that I don't care to join them. Besides, I like hashing it out in f2p: you DO have to work harder and/or longer for the stats. I didn't miss that. Twenty seconds of camping on aggressive monsters and a former (or visiting, which seems to be popular among them for some reason) member will have more than enough energy to escape you. Conversely, you won't have much of a chance of escaping a p2p opponent (or series, which is more often than not the case for me but even with that advantage none have been competent enough to kill me for the past 821 ores) on foot with the same strategy. Even without camping many can simply run both parties out of energy and then, with their faster recharging, make a break for it. Don't even tell me to Bind: it's a crap spell and you know it. I challenge you to get 99 agility in ONE MONTH from any time at which you'd like to accept it, provided you start with a level below 20. Give me your RSN now to prove that you have that low level, and if you accept I'd better see that same name on the high scores with a shiny white 99 next to the agility stat. Moving on. If someone asks for additional f2p benefits, I can understand why some of you people say that we get what we pay for (which is advertising money; I don't use AdBlock for any of RuneScape's sponsors). I think that's reasonable. But to condone this sort of advantage after some thought is clearly either elitism, greed, or madness. You paid, so what? Why should that make you different from the rest once you stop or change to a world where you are expressly meant to be WITHOUT the benefits of your payment? If nothing else, abolish agility in the f2p wilderness. Is that so unreasonable?
  2. You have my full support. This is an excellent idea.
  3. The Quest should be of extreme difficulty.
  4. If this were to go over at all, I think secondary damage BUT NOT LONG-TERM LIKE POSION would be appropriate here. For instance, each connecting hit of the dagger would deal a small amount of immediate "flame" damage. Targets in metal and cloth armors would be vulnerable to this, while targets using antifire potions/shields or wearing dragonhide would be almost fully resistant to it. Lighting a weapon on fire should also lower its accuracy until the fire goes out per the smoke issuing forth from the dagger as well as the uncomfortable heat it gives off.
  5. As a matter of fact, the rune essence update allowed them to triple the money they got from mining it, and when they sold it for more money they could make a more handsome profit and still pay for membership.
  6. Try pking someone who camps on aggro monsters. That's fine until you realize that their run restores significantly faster than yours. If you're going to be immature then please take it somewhere else. You can also "earn" an Abyssal Whip. Would you support its use in f2p?
  7. They paid but then they stopped paying. Why should they get extra benefits over others who aren't paying membership fees either?
  8. I believe that JaGeX should either allow free players some means of training agility or remove its run-restoring properties from the free game wilderness. Why? It really isn't fair that former members or visiting members should keep the benefits of agility in free world wilderness. It provides players with it an unfair advantage over others merely because they had once payed to play the game. Arguments against: 1. Members paid for their benefits and contributed to the further development of the game. They should be allowed extra benefits. 2. Agility provides an extra challenge for F2P players to overcome. 3. Agility only increases run restore rate. It doesn't decrease run drain rate or increase run speed. It should not afford a significant advantage in the wilderness. 4. You're only mad because you're a rune miner and we catch up with you easily. 5. Free players don't support the game. We do, so we should be allowed to stomp on you however we please. Responses: 1. Members did pay for their benefits, but that is no justification for being provided with advantages that are to the detriment of free players. That's not in the spirit of the game, and free worlds are expressly meant to be WITHOUT the benefits of membership. 2. Challenges can be fun. I don't relish this one largely because I see it as an unecessary obstacle. 3. Run restore rates become fairly significant when your target camps among aggressive monsters to avoid your attack. They gain more run energy than you do, and hence they are able to keep running long after you are unable to. The flip side of this is that they will be able to catch you when you try to escape. 4. Come try to kill me. My private chat's on (RSN OmniIcyshelf). I'll be at the rune rocks. 5. We provide an influx of new members as well as advertising revenue for JaGeX, which Andrew Gower himself has said to be a very significant portion of their funds. Treating us as second-class players is not going to get JaGeX many customers.
  9. There's only one problem with this: People don't wear vambraces over their hands, either. Maybe parts, but gloves should theoretically be able to fit over those.
  10. Gosh, you sound like a college admissions type XD
  11. This Ditch was a good addition to the Stronghold of Stupidity and Stupidity Block-Protection.
  12. Naturally. It happens all the time, at least where I used to go before I started mining rune (World 3). I know it sounds crazy, but that's been my experience especially among people around my own level (92). Ok. You see, part of what I was picking up from this author was that because "anything goes" in the wilderness they are not even subject to the rules of a DM that they agree to. I thought you yourself agreed to that as well because of your "pretend like I am teleblocked" comment. In a DM, you do "pretend like you are teleblocked/entangled" in a sense. Per my experience most of my opponents seem to have been far more gracious than yours. Yes, I have been called a "safer noob," "def noob," and before I learned that protection prayers made fights lame, a "prayer noob," but these were rare occurences for me. Again, yes, I did make the mistake of believing you were talking about deathmatches or similar fights. Yes, people should not force their individual rules down your throat. I can agree with that. The expectation in Edgeville, however, is that you will fight by certain rules as a result of PKing there as opposed to say by the rune rocks. It could be arrogance or greed on their part, but more than likely it is because traditional PKers and other non-duelists like to move out farther instead of sticking to Edgeville where all the "dumb rules" are in place and enforced through the sword. This is not to say that your attacker is justified, but rather to provide a little peek into his thinking. Reason with him, and if he doesn't listen then just leave it be or own him. Onlookers know BS when they see it and I'm sure they won't object to it if you toast whining fools. I have been attacked sometimes by people without armor who want me to take mine off; when I refuse, they call me a noob, but nobody else calls me on it or attacks me for fighting them because they know I was not the one who started the fight in the first place. Again, assumption by location (crowded market world near Edgeville). Wrong in your case, but tends to be right about 70% of the time- and that's why they do it. If they call you names for no good reason, then it reflects poorly on them, not you. By the same token, don't go to Edgeville and NOT expect to be attacked by such people. Agreed. Well, first I'd like to ask: What is the combat level of the opponent you would typically fight in Edgeville? A lot of low-level pkers can teleport but can't teleblock, and if they went higher in the wilderness they would be abused by higher-leveled players. Well, I don't see why you would need the teleport in an Edgeville situation especially when it's to your detriment (which is why others will think you unskilled when you use it), but you can if that's what floats your boat. I really don't think it comes so much from expecting you not to teleport because it's a rule as it does from the fact that running is cheaper for both parties and terminates a clearly pointless fight (that is, your opponent is clearly slated to win that battle) earlier than teleporting would. Save for the Smite comment, moving deeper, and applying these principles to DMs, I'm in agreement. On the other hand, this is ludicrous advice for F2Pers (myself, 100% f2p, though I understand a lot about the way p2p operates). The funny thing about most of these "rules" is that they aren't rules at all: They're just things that many pkers don't expect other pkers to do because they can be demonstrative of incompetence in low-level wilderness. I've already gone over why protection prayers, safing, and teleporting are bad practices, player preference aside. That's why the word "noob" is thrown around so freely, even if it doesn't describe the target in the slightest.
  13. Where to begin here? I've already addressed the "social contract" point: The duelists ask you if you would like to duel by a certain set of rules (generally the same in these dueling areas) with a simple question like "DM?" or "No armor?" If you don't, that's fine: just don't attack us and we won't attack you and force our rules down your throat. If you decide to attack us and not adhere by the rules, though, we won't do the same for you. This has nothing to do with "honor" or "honour" or however you want to spell it. It has nothing to do with greed. I could care less about getting some rune or even a partyhat. All we ask is that our battles be fair and square, not because we want you to die or because we can't beat you otherwise, but because we want you to fight like we do for the sake of making the battle more intense. Is that so difficult to understand? Yes, some people WILL call you a n00b or something stupid like that for not playing by their rules, but don't judge the rest of us by them. We're not all greedy fools who want to limit you just for the sake of grabbing your pixels. Many of us are more than capable, but naturally you like to think that your opponent is incompetent- the same accusation you perceive us as making of you- but the simple truth is that we don't want to waste space and money on runes since the expectation is that neither of us will teleport. That's what's agreed to in a DM. If you never agreed to it, more power to you, but we'll break out OUR runes and other equipment and you can expect a different kind of fight from us then. If you'd like to come to level one wilderness and break up the order the duelists have created, feel free: We can and we will do our best to kill you by the same rules you're playing against us (none), and if we can't kill you we'll at the very least gain a good amount of experience in trying until you stop attacking us. You'll have wasted our time and money as well as yours. I hope you'll feel proud in having upheld your viewpoint. Straw man. If I can beat you adhering to my limiting rules when you do not, it certainly reflects on how well I can manage myself in the dueling wild. In summation: Nobody has a right to insult you for not adhering to their rules. I agree with that. You can and certainly may attack and kill someone in the wilderness by any rules you wish. But as for the duelists' territory, you can certainly TRY, but it won't be long before the tables are turned on you. The competent among us enforce our rules through the sword. If all you understand is strength, we'll do our best to show it to you. If I protection prayed against an opponent of my level, mine would more than likely last longer because of my higher level and blessed symbol. Pointless exercise. If I safed, I would be disadvantaging myself to a degree. I have no problem with my opponent safing because I know that they're only leaving themselves vulnerable to attack. If someone is getting close to killing you and laying down the high hits, then by all means continue to eat until the spree has stopped, but there is NO NEED to eat beyond that when it will do nothing but keep you from attacking and keep your opponent attacking you. Yes, these words are probably thrown around by people who don't actually know the meaning and expect you to adhere to the rules when you never agreed to them. That's wrong, I agree. But don't mash me and a bunch of other duelists into that group, because we don't belong there. For me and any of the rest of us, it has little to do with money or items: It has to do with wanting the opponent to fight under the same conditions because WE LIKE TO FIGHT AND WHILE ITEMS WOULD BE NICE THEY AREN'T THE SOLE OR EVEN PRIMARY REASON WE'RE OUT THERE TO BEGIN WITH. It's a point I can't stress enough and apparently is lost on the writer of this editorial and many of the posters on this forum.
  14. Continuous ban on all players wearing default skin with 60 wc and standing within a ten-square radius of ANY YEW TREE. That's what I sez. Damn the skillers, they don't need their accounts anyway >:D
  15. Yes. We duelists look for fair, challenging fights. We aren't in it to kill helpless people, especially when we gain nothing but our victim's contempt. This is the same reason people who have armor don't attack people looking for no armor fights (remember that "no-armor" doesn't necessarily mean it is not in their inventory for the sake of raising the stakes of the battle, it's just to raise the risk) in these dueling worlds: It's out of respect and a desire to fight opponents who want to fight us in our own style. There is of course also a money factor, but it comes second to these. Those for whom money comes first and rules second are not welcome in our territory and generally do not linger because of our hostility toward them. If people have done nothing to lose a basic level of respect you should express toward them (golden rule), then by all means show it. I live by that both in the game and the real world. JaGeX said you didn't have to in the game, but Andrew himself says that it's not in the spirit of the game to be nasty to other people :) Just a thought. If you never made the agreement and wished to engage in a fight nonetheless, then complaints are of course unwarranted. If you never made the agreement and never wished to fight, then a person who complains is clearly greedy. If you made the agreement, chose to fight, and broke that agreement, you should be stepped upon. The reason a problem springs up is often because people perceive someone who continues to fight as agreeing to their rules without actually acknowledging them verbally.
  16. It is already fairly well established which worlds (and the pattern their propagation follows) are dueling worlds. On weekends, these dueling worlds may extend all the way to 8 and beyond. A person who takes the time to think about the subject will realize that Edge pkers (and otherwise) will flock to any world where it is potentially easy to buy/sell supplies and equipment: Hence, market worlds easily double as dueling worlds. The dueling world of choice is generally the lowest-numbered, non-full server (usually 3 on weekdays and higher on weekends). Go pilejump someone in world 3 edgeville in front of a bunch of people your level. See how well they appreciate your "to each his own" philosophy. careface :| Other than the numerous points which you've conveniently chosen to ignore. Yes, some people can't help but resort to ad hominem attacks, but that gives you no right to overlook the merits that do exist in their arguments. Agreed. Some pkers do that, but I won't. So won't most of the pkers in the dueling worlds I go to. They understand going in that there was no personal agreement made between themselves and their opponent, and unless they choose to DM then running is more than permissible. If people give you a hard time, just ignore them or own their sorry little butts. If you can't do that, either, then switch worlds. Teleporting in any circumstance, however, is not seen as acceptable because the fight is generally done near (as you said) safe zones and being unable to run down those few little levels reflects on how bad your foresight is. Teleports take up one to three inventory spaces; spaces you could have used for food or different equipment. Running on low food instead of teleporting on no food saves money for both yourself and your opponent (I am not going to spell it out because you should be able to understand why). And this is a problem why-? If you agree to a DM, then you should stick to it. That's basic respect. People are also much more likely to interfere in the fight the farther you go from Edgeville. It's not so much an issue of danger as it is of avoiding inconvenience or annoyance. It's pointless to waste money on teleblocks and entangles when you want a melee duel. I bet at least one of you is thinking "LOL OMG GO 2 THA DOOL AR3NAH THN DOOM! LOL!" I've already explained why people fight near Edgeville (that means outside of f2p, as well) and don't think I need to explain any further. I picked up the issue with safe-eating quickly when I started fighting. I understood that not safing would make killing me and taking my stuff easier for my opponent, but in exchange they would also subject themselves to the same level of risk as I do. Another thought on safe-eating: keep in mind that when you safe-eat you leave yourself open to attack, are not striking your opponent, and could potentially consume some food unnecessarily: keeping your HP high at all times is a TERRIBLE strategy. Not saying you should be redbarred when you eat, but at advanced levels you don't need to have more than say 30 hp left in f2p. The first time someone told me not to safe (and I stopped), he 21's me with a rune scimitar and kills me. But I didn't let that discourage me. In later battles I didn't safe and I killed my opponents instead. Would you believe I once fought (skulled) in full sara against a guy with 99 range? Probably not, but I did. I never safed, had no teleports on me, and never protection prayed. Neither did he. If I lost my sara, he would have deserved it for having the guts to take me on. He lost, but he was still one of the worthiest opponents I've ever had. Apparently, most of us are very unreasonable because we adhere to this code. Either that, or we have BALLS OF STEEL! The rules exist (through social contract) in dueling worlds because people go there for that sort of fight. If you want your lawless fighting, then there are plenty of other places to do it: we duelers just ask that you give us some space to call our own because there isn't a place we'd rather do it (or can do it if you're f2p like me). For us it's fun to fight with challenging rules near Edgeville and if someone like you wants to take that away from us then you'll have to pry it from our cold, dead hands. It's not that we can't be bothered, it's that we want to prove we can win without needing some of these things. It takes a stronger person to win the fight without needing to resort to means that are underhanded or require less skill to use. If you want to tele, run, safe, pray, or all of that other crap, go ahead because we can easily do it back. There's a reason the rules are in place and people agree to them. Stereotyping is bad, mmk? We can't alter your behavior but we can certainly slice you up right nice. R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Are you telling me it doesn't and shouldn't exist between people even in a game?
  17. It isn't shouting: the caps and bold are simply to draw attention to it because it's a point that simply hasn't been made clearly enough. It should be fairly obvious based on the number of people fighting near edgeville what's going on. If you don't know what something means, then you can always ask. Contrary to others' experiences I've found that most pkers at edgeville will not scorn you if you ask what a term or rule means. If a few do, that's a personal thing and you shouldn't judge the rest by it. Precisely my point. These rules should be followed in worlds and areas where players have agreed upon and can enforce these rules (such as World 3 Edge). I don't know about you, but getting tagged and teamed by silly fools who think they own kind of sickens me. So, the rules established by the denizens of world 3 edge are a most welcome change.
  18. I spent a whole post explaining how simple it would be for the software to retrieve a player's password. If you mean analyzing a list of every player's unique password, then yes, I do believe it would be more difficult, but I hardly think they would program the software to analyze such a list when simply creating an Object to hold the password at request would be much more efficient.
  19. THE REASON THESE RULES EXIST IN DUELING WORLDS IN THE F2P WILDERNESS ARE PRECISELY BECAUSE THERE IS NEITHER A DUEL ARENA NOR TELEBLOCK/ENTANGLE/ANCIENTS. DO NOT GIVE ME BS ABOUT GOING PAST 20 WILD TO FIGHT, BECAUSE PEOPLE CAN AND DO SUMMON THEIR FRIENDS TO KILL YOU AFTERWARDS.
  20. If I may ask one question... WHY IS IT THAT MANY OF YOU SEEM TO BELIEVE THAT THE HONOR CODE IS SPAWNED PURELY OUT OF GREED AND NOT PERHAPS OUT OF A DESIRE FOR FIGHTING WITH MORE CHALLENGES, RISKS, AND SKILL? It's a little, you know, ignorant to be calling people who want others to abide by it greedy. We have our reasons, and they're hardly just because we want a measly piece of rune.
  21. I think that data for each player is stored as a text file accessible to the RuneScape applet and server software. The software uses methods at run time to enter the data from the text file into a Player Object as its attributes. The password is stored as a private variable within the Object, and is likely acquired by the applet and server software using a simple accessor method (perhaps Player.get()). Using a separate method to read and filter strings of text that the player enters should not be terribly difficult. It might look something like this if the processing were executed in the main class (which of course is ludicrous, but this is just illustrative of how easy it would be to code the filter in a different class). /*Assume the Client class controls chat reading/writing functions and the non-static Filter class handles Strings (with constructor public String Filter(String input))*. The "get" function of the Player class returns the Player Object's password as a string./ String chatString = Client.ReadIn(); if(chatString.contains(Banned.cussword)){ Filter(chatString); Client.Out(chatstring); //allows the edited string to pass } else if(chatString.contains(Player.password.get()) Client.PassOut(); //returns the "You're telling" message else Client.Out(chatstring); //allows the unedited string to pass }
  22. Look, I can agree with this article if you're not in a world where people want to DM or duel. If you are, then stop whining and abide by the rules or switch worlds.
  23. I say any number of accounts is fine provided you don't attempt to move items between them. I did that between two accounts once and then stopped using them because I felt like I'd cheated :P Well, ok, so I still use one of them, but only to scout for my rune-mining main. That's reasonable, right?
  24. No. If I'm in a "dueling world" wild, I don't pilejump, I don't protection pray, I don't safe, and I don't run or tele from DMs. kthx. It's a bit of a different story when I'm mining rune and am low on food, of course- unfair circumstances and I'm obviously not there to fight, so I pray and use whatever means necessary to get the hell out of there.
  25. Farcasting, I'd say not necessarily, since your opponent may have heavy range armor and a high magic level (which means a high magic defense- check the knowledge base). If you want to risk farcasting someone, you'd better be prepared to face them if they have such armor.
