  1. zing!
  2. well if the chosen elemnts were based off the "5 Western Elements", like an actual set of elements, then i guess lightning wouldnt be a very good idea did anybody read my previous post? ether (or aether, actually) is technically like a lightning type thingy
  3. lol did you just search "big dragon" on google images and post that? how about an image suggestion that would be applicable to a java programmed game?
  4. i like the original idea better - if you get someone down to low health, like 3 or 4, the extra minute to get them up to - wow! five hit points! won't really make a difference, since limestone hits six, most monsters hit higher than 5 etc.
  5. just so you know guys, bank space is meant to be restricting. even in members worlds, i might add. if you ever had enoguh time to add up all the different members items - probably in the 10s of thousands, and how much bank space we have, then you'll see the proportion of items to bank space is probably equal or even greater than in free to play. and by the way, where did you get this statistic? This has probably been asked before, because this is a very unlikely statistic (most pkers, for example, are not skillers as well and vice versa). I'd be willing to wager that maybe 65 or 70 percent of runescape's ftp population is all three of those things, or is at least two of them (when i was ftp, i got obsessed with pking for a while and did nothing else, then went back to skilling and merchanting the stuff i got from my skilling). Also, when you're listing all the stuff the three classes of citizens have, you forget that if someone is a pker, skiller, and merchanter, they're going to merchant the stuff they pk and get from skilling, so those items are the same, not new. you can't put raw materials in the items for skillers and merchanters, then double count it if someone's a skiller and merchanter. All in all, i do support. you make a convincing argument, and as i have a very high level ftp pure who's running out of bank space as well, i see the need. if 12 bank spaces would sate you for the next few years worth of ftp updates (that's not that many - like 3 a year) then i see no reason why jagex wouldn't give it to you other than their increasingly lame "you don't pay so you don't get updates" argument.
  6. the only bracelet worth the time it takes to make them is the castle wars one... for a castle wars junkie like me, those can be really really helpful... i went out and made about 85 of those the day bracelets came out.
  7. nah, happpens all the time in ptp too... like in castle wars, as somebody previously mentioned.
  8. usually it's spelled "aether" and it has two definitions. this first one, you were pretty right about. basically, aether was believed to be the substance which filled the region of the universe above the terrestrial sphere. space, basically. the second one, however, would help mortifyer's point greatly. the other name for aether, Quintessence, was thought be pure energy. Its force is imagined to be like a lightning. Sooo if jagex was going with the five greek elements, they would have reasoning to add lightning spells to the game. therefore we deduce that they weren't following any mythological elements and just sat down at a tablle one day and said "here's the four elements - fire, water, earth, and air. go suck on it, greeks." or something like that.
  9. BAD IDEA. haven't done rfd  but i'm a barbarian assault addict and it takes a very very long time to get the fighter torso. i still don't have it, and i play ba a lot. same with the rune defender (i have an addy one). not as long as fighter torso, but if someone could get that just by going into the wilderness and pking someone who had one, they'd become a lot easier to get and a lot less rare, since most people who have rune defenders also have an extra addy or mith one so they can get back to rune easily if they lose theirs. no support.
  10. i see no reason not to have both, but if i had to pick i'd say old ones.
  11. good idea... use the ring of charos (u) while talking to aubury to unlock the spell... i suggest at least level 55 magic, maybe higher. i'm not sure it would be very popular though... laws go for like 300 each, and one inv of rune ess only goes for 28*10 = 280 gp... oh wait, this is mems only spell? ok then, because an inv of pure ess is like 2.8k... that's not a bad idea then, i support.
  12. completely support - i hate going to the yews in draynor and seeing 3 or 4 macroers and having to wait like 5 mintues just to report them all.. usually i get frustrated with having to wait and only report one or two... to reiterate: support
  13. sweet idea, maybe add to the reward 30k to make back the cash you spent on the machine?
  14. *sigh* ok, this is a complex issue. i've read very good arguements on both sides of the debate, and here is my opinion. I don't believe that ftp should get common updates (no, i don't fall into the "they don't pay so they don't get updates" category!). As a two-year ftper who got members less than a year ago, I enjoyed playing in the ftp servers. Don't forget everyone - ftp is a demo! Jagex wants you to become ptp, based on that idea in the first post that M>N. If you want more updates, become ptp! That's my argument.
  15. sorry, but bad idea. i have the setting on as high as possible brightness and i still can barely see in some places. not supporting, soz.
  16. this was the most boring tipit times i've ever read. i usually love the times but this one was yawn inducing. rachet it up a notch, editor!
  17. pie dish: deceptively pie shaped. dark kebbits: quieter than a ninja mouse with slippers on kebbit fur (from falconry): maybe this is why people think fuzzy dice make you go faster.
  18. i started to feel the same way - disillusioned with rs. i quit for a few months, but when i came back i found the thing that is now really fun for me - hunter! it doesn't require huge quantities of clicks, the animations (especially deadfall) are cute and hilarious, and it doesn't require you to go out and do monotonous things to raise cash ("selling 5k coal, 140 each!!"). people do stupid stuff to get levels, fletching being an example.
  19. i absolutely agree with pretty much everything in this article. i love some of the examines, and not only the bartender in the blue moon inn says runescape's a game. but on the topic of cold war, i absolutely loved the quest. one of the most fun i've done in a long time, and i really thought the USSR references were great, especially since we're studying the cold war in school. the kgp cracked me up every time i heard about it.. and on the topic of names, such as fary nuff, there's also sir amik varze (ceramic vase), sir prysin (surprising) and sir vyvin (surviving). there's only one i don't get... sir tiffy cashien. it's something about certificates i'm pretty sure, but... certificashin? no idea at all. anyways, great article, keep em coming, editor! ps. anyone who gets the "Tiffy cashien" thing, plz pm me on this forum. it kind of annoys me.
  20. i didn't start hunter till very recently, but it's now my favorite skill. i'm middle levelish, 73, and i'm terrible at cash making, since i play less than 20 min a day. so i love hunting because it's so inexpensive, and it's really really fun. as soon as i hit 43 i was at the falcons, because it's fun and fast experience. i mean, the spotted kebbits you can hunt at level 43 are about 100 exp. the snowy grahks at level 55 are only 300, and i can catch 3 kebbits in under 20 seconds at lvl 43. even at level 55, i can't catch a snowy grakh in under 20 second. it can take a minute or more! so falconry's way faster, especially since i'm now 56 and nearly never miss spotted kebbits, and i can almost catch dark kebbits (220 exp per!!!)
  21. how about sir prisin, surprising, and the other guy is sir vyvin... surviving.
  22. it's very possible that i would die without swiftswitch. i absolutely love it. i can't stand playing at friend's houses because i don't have ss.
  23. great article, but he should have mentioned jagex's promise for an ingame group chat system. i personally use/live by/worship/would die without swiftswitch, so i was understandably annoyed (as were many others, according to the editor) when it was banned. i'm glad they came to their senses, and i like the idea of jagex creating their own client for runescapers.
  24. 1. HUNTER ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ it is my new favorite skill for two reasons: one, it̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s infectiously fun, and two, it̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s hugely inexpensive. 2. Pest Control ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ I bet this will win. Best combat training update to ever happen to Runescape. 3. FairyTale2/Fairy Rings ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ This goes hand in hand with Hunter, but even before hunter these rings made traveling Runescape much less expensive and much more fun.
  25. Well the majority of players, ftp for sure, possibly ptp as well, are mid to lower levels. more level 3s join every day than level 90+s get banned or quit. i think jagex knew this when they released first construction (great skill for higher levels with more cash) and then the skill capes (i challenge you to say those are an update for lower levels!). all in all, a great year. thanks to hunter i managed to get about 350 total levels up and about 12 combats (i hate combat), as well as join a clan, quit it to make my own, have my own clan die after a few months, join a new clan, quit after about a month to make my own clan, and now have a thriving clan of 30+ members. :P a lot happened in '06, and here's wishing to an even better '07, both in runescape and real life. edit: reading back through the messages, i saw this: the tipit times is STILL the only editorial you're going to find on runescape. i think a reflection on a year passed is a good way to spend an article! states the obvious? maybe some people, people who play runescape too seriously, needed to be reminded of this. it's a game about having fun and interacting with cool people. i know people who have maintained friendships through this game because i am one of them! i have a friend who lives about an hour away who i've only met once but we're good friends because we play runescape together a lot. he even recently invited me over to his house! so i think it's important to make people realize that MMORPGs are better than normal games because of the in-game relationships that are made.
