  1. Except that this is a school, not a home, really not much "stuff" to defend there except, oh, I don't know...life. If a kid takes a gun into a school you bet your sunshine they're there to kill, not rob. This argument only serves to aid (if you can even call it that) a thread on gun control which you explicitly stated this was not about. That's partially laziness, partially sunburn. I took it from another topic on another forum why I disagree with guns being around in the first place. I didn't bother typing anything new because I wanted to jump in the shower and put lotion on my sunburn.
  2. Better in what way? It's a known fact that states like Utah and Texas are gun clingy. Should I have made an allusion to the death penalty too? Or would that not have been fitting...? There's so many unqualified teachers in America as it is to TEACH, and to give them the ability to carry GUNS?!?!! Asinine...
  3. http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5iEhb ... AD92J09700 Well, not only just in America, but of course Texas would lead the way. This has been a debate in America for sometime; to let teachers/students carry concealed weapons on school campuses. The debate should be: "How do we ban guns completely?" Universities and schools are to be places of learning, and guns have no place on a school campus whatsoever. I dislike the idea of people thinking of themselves as the Universal Arbiters with a gun to "protect" themselves (which in my opinion is a crock of [cabbage]). They just want to protect their stuff and don't like other people "taking it", when items can be replaced, especially if they're insured. I don't feel any safer with "law abiding" citizens carrying guns than I do a criminal. So it's not so much the guns, it's the gun mentality and culture that this country cannot let go of. That said, I cannot wait to leave this gun culture behind... Note: this topic is not about gun control or gun bannings, but concealed weapons being allowed on school campuses.

    Flag Burning.

I don't get offended at someone burning an American flag, but I certainly don't hold any respect for them either. It's just one of those things like, "Ok, you burned our flag, now what?" I feel like you could make like a whole Family Guy skit out of that or something. You know, have someone burn the flag and taunt and laugh and be like "Yeah!!! This is what I think of America....YEAH!" and then another character going, "Alright...sooooo???", then flash back to the other char and him be like, "Um, you're supposed to go nuts and crazy and freak out...and this doesn't bother you?", go back "No, not really..." then the other char puts his head down and walks away annoyed that it didn't get a rise out of him. I mean, comon...alright, you burned the flag, now what? If you're trying to make a statement, great for you, but you're about as useless as the War Protesters; you're getting nothing accomplished and only instilling angry emotions in the citizens. It's just a pointless act to me, it's like the IRL version of trolling...and DaN's reasoning for burning it clearly says that: "I just wanted to see what people would do and how they would react..." If you want to burn a flag, have at it, but other people like myself will go about more productive ways to change the country.
  5. About Disturbed: Meh, I liked them with their first album, but I just formatted my Ipod and I'm not putting them back on. I don't enjoy bands that sound the same in all of their songs. It's all the same: Nickel Back, Dragonforce, 3 Doors Down, Disturbed Are they "dead"? No, far from it lol, but I don't like them.
  6. Yeah she's in the same grade as me (just barely), she has 1-1.5 years to go. Um, it's funny you should ask that because she actually started college at 16  Basically she did 2 years from 16-18, then her mother started having financial issues, so she quit school to work to help out around the house with bills and stuff. Went from receptionist/secretary work to other odd-jobs. Her sister then had a baby, but she found out about this program from the government that would pay her to stay home and watch her niece, and she went to school at night to tackle another year. So, she has 1 year left...but she left home to join the Barack Obama campaign. That's where I met her. It's quite different, and I love it.
  7. I am 20 years old, currently with a 27 year old. I mean, her emotional attachment is far greater than my own, mostly because I am not ready to fully commit to a serious "emotional relationship" until I graduate college. It hasn't really interfered much, and I'm trying to encourage her to finish up her last year of school so she has a degree. The sex is great though. \
  8. Who are you disagreeing with? Because what you just said is exactly what I said :? The thing is, right-wing parties in Nordic countries are still more liberal than our democrats lol; the parties gaining more support there are moderates/centrists.
  9. Um, what are you talking about? That is completely false. Their left is still liberal, it's just that American politics are stuck on the right side, that our Democrats are a conservative party... See? Generally, Democrats are still very conservative on the world-wide spectrum. Republicans, on the other hand, are flat out right-side radicals. A liberal in America would propose gun-control, whereas a liberal in say, the UK, would propose gun-BANS.
  10. Then Rice will say the same thing again, and the US will do nothing. If Russia was some rinky dink weakling country, you can bet your sure fire [wagon] we'd be pulling Iraq 2.0....Russia, S. Ossetia, Georgia..oil galore. This is the thing. At this point the Neocons aren't achieving anything other than broadcasting to the world how utterly ineffectual America is at diplomacy, and how totally broken our ability to influence foreign affairs without direct involvement. You'd think it would be more in our interests to just shut up, so people don't notice that nobody's listening to us. To me, this is the reason why any nationalist Republican with any sense would prefer Obama to McCain - McCain can't do anything to restore American prestige on the world diplomatic stage. He might be able to convince the insipid American public that he doesn't represent a continuation of Bush's doctrines, but the rest of the world isn't going to buy that [cabbage]. Neither can Obama, really, but he may be able to go some way towards re-inventing us as a mediator or an organizer of international efforts, as Britain re-invented itself in the latter 20th Century. Make no mistake - we're still a powerhouse, but the days of American primacy in world affairs are over forever. If we don't manage to re-invent ourselves into a new and important role on the world stage in our national dotage, we're going to end up finding the world is a pretty horrible place in which to be American. I think at this point, even if Rice had the cure for cancer, no one would be interested.
  11. Let's just piss of Russia more, shall we Georgie Boy?
  12. http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/beijin ... &type=lgns Surprise!
  13. Hohto, I've always noticed that Finland continues to dominate on these tests, time and time again. Could you explain your educational system?
  14. My first post was killed a long time ago...here's the one that's still saved as my "first post": Tue Apr 05, 2005 7:58 pm
  15. Incubus ever since their bass player left. Hey, I still love them, and Brandon Boyd is great, but never the same since Dirk Lance left...
  16. i'm sorry, but that's really stupid... can't they see russia can justify it's attacks, this is just asking for trouble... When the EU is talking with Moscow about peace (the French FM - the French currently hold the presidency of the EU), and quite a large chunk of NATO is made up of the EU, it does seem strange George would decide to 'go it alone' in what is a direct confrontation. And some of you think Obama would make a bad commander-in-Chief? He can't do any worse than this guy... he has been a disaster since Day One.:? Russia BAD!!! HULK SMASH!!! I was very please with Bush's first reactions; he simply stated that Russia was using a disproportionate amount of force to deal with the situation, which I agreed with. Then, that was it. Now...wtf is his problem. Why couldn't we just LAY OFF! [bleep]! Doesn't make any sense to me, it just doesn't...I don't get it. How...just how can people support McCain with this crap going on? McCain's reaction was by FAR worse...I may type up a whole thread about it...
  17. ??? I don't understand Georgie, your first reaction to this crisis amazed me, and I was so happy... Not at war yet. edit: ah Ginger was before me lol.
  18. Wow, where have you been all my life? I've been here since this board started, and I've never seen you around. =D> edit: Oh, and I see you live in Arkansas...you poor poor dear.
  19. PUNKIE!!!! How are you my dear? Haven't spoken to you in ages...how's Arizona? And good luck to all the British students, I wish you all luck in getting the grades you want/need, and where your next journey in education leads you
  20. http://www.usmagazine.com/transgender-c ... te-on-antm What are your views on cosmetic surgery, and I guess I should say more specifically, transgender surgery...? On a personal level, I do not agree with cosmetic surgery except in the case of accident; ie, a man's face is mutilated in a fire and he needs certain cosmetic surgery measures to put his face "back in order". However, even if I don't personally agree with others getting it, I still see no reason why we should restrict those who want to do it. It's always interesting to me to see people in general having no issues with people getting boob jobs, yet they are abhorred at people getting transgender surgery. So all and all, while I do not support cosmetic surgery in general on a personal level, I don't see anything wrong with people getting it if they want it.
  21. You disregard one of the most-read texts in the history of literature due to it not being cool enough for you? I once respected you as a debatist. :| What? You totally didn't read my post for what it was... And what was it? Because it seems like you're bashing something for no reason, something you've been doing a good bit of recently. Oh yeah, I disregard it because it isn't "cool enough", I mean, are you for real? Read the post again; it's obvious that I said I disregarded it because the Bible, while looking at it from a historical and scholarly angle, doesn't exist in the terms that you're proposing because of the editing and rejections of other books.
  22. You disregard one of the most-read texts in the history of literature due to it not being cool enough for you? I once respected you as a debatist. :| What? You totally didn't read my post for what it was...
  23. All the really COOL gospels and apocalyptic literature didn't make it into the canon. Whenever people talk about 'the Bible' as if it's something that actually exists I have to kind of stifle a laugh. That's what textual scholarship and historical acuity will do to you.
  24. Do you live by yourself or with your parents? But lol @ the boldness of this dude.
  25. This is my own view, nothing relating to the bible, but this piece of scum in question raped and killed 2 innocent girls, I see nothing that can justify allowing him to live. Also factor in that keeping him in jail costs huge amounts of money that could be put into healthcare, so killing him could save 2-3 lives by taking 1 that IMO doesn't deserve to live anymore. I won't get started on arguing against the death penalty, since it's been done extensively and eloquently by Ginger in the dedicated thread already. Killing him is one thing, but when people start going on about splattering his brains all over the walls or boiling him alive (or whatever has been said) then that goes beyond justice and into the realms of twisted revenge. Killing him in ANY way is a form of revenge/vengeance. Killing him will not bring those people back, it won't turn others away from the same crimes, and it certainly will not look good for a society. Oh well, it's the old American way: say one thing, do something different. "Killing is fine....only when we do it!" *sigh* I'm pretty sure you're against the death penalty period though, Lateralus, but this is directed towards anyone else.
