I see it as an attempt by Jagex to maybe reduce the amount of skillers/questers at a low level and attempt to get people focused more on combat? Considering the quest was also about an adventurer who was scared of combat.... :-k

Lumby home tele on the normal spells has a tele to lumby, and you've never complained about that... If you've done the ancients mini quest to get the ghostly robes you'll find out that most of the story behind ancient magicks lies in edgeville. Also you'll notice that the pyramid is not the place where its power comes from, it is merely the place where Azzandra, a mahjarrat active on this plane gives you the knowledge to the spells. The power on which ancient magicks runs is actually from edgeville. :)

Thinking technologically here. The density of the metal fired from the cannon wouldn't change a thing, its the force in which the thing is fired from the cannon. So rune/steel/dragon/mith.. whatever.. would all hit the same if they were fired with the same force. So in other words, whatever metal, 30 is the max. And that already hurts.

yes, but its the most efficient amulet in the game. if lower lvels could afford them, it wouldnt hold much purpose. for a best amulet in the game, it should cost way more. its an amulet! no way should it be worth 4mil for something that adds about 10 to each stat... I'll stick with my glories which stick 6 onto each stat and cost around 4mil cheaper...
