Quick Question about Hybrid Armour and CW
Definitely only count games after the hybrid release.

New skill at the end of 2013
Flasks may be only a small part of the skill, and they may be not "high" level based on your definition but that doesn't mean they had no impact. The nature of a depleted forcibly scarce resource like red sandstone makes them stable at a decent price. The same is true of renewal potions. Yes I wouldn't call this complete revamps, however they are solid updates. Flasks give a solid profit method for a skill that didn't have much use otherwise.

The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
The issue is that they are dealing with legacy and complex systems. Jagex doesn't have the ability to simply scrap old work. They have to fit within whatever framework they have. Also, its a lot more difficult to grab keybindings for every OS they support. It isn't exactly cross platform. (Its not part of the java base libraries that I am aware of..) Definitely I have to stick with that you may not have the knowledge. It isn't just a matter of "can" it be done. It's a matter of what would it gain them to add complexity.

The F2P General Discussion Thread
As long as you don't do anything in the members world and log out as soon as possible I don't see why that should be considered not pure F2P. (In otherwords, as the trial logs you into members world, run to a F2P area and log out without gaining any XP)

New skill at the end of 2013
I like that idea of merchanting, the only downside being that it would give GP. Maybe as long as it gave rewards other than GP (like trading regular playermade items in large quantities for the ability to obtain untradable or better tradable items). That would mean item sink. Then again, I'm just a fan of farming lol.

If you exclude gp purchased from illegal sources, there is a limit on how much money a person can spend on the game. At the moment, that's $200 per day. Granted, paying $200 a day is as likely as playing 24 hours a day for a vast majority of players. It's just not going to happen. However, there will be people that spend money and spend 12+ hours a day on RS. If they're going through channels that Jagex set up and don't disrupt other player's game, I don't see the major problem. It's not healthy (excess time) and it's probably going to encourage more silly SoF escapades (excess money), but overall I'm not impacted. At the end of the day, from what I've seen of RS, putting in excessive time or money won't help you if you don't learn to play the game. You can have tons of items and xp, but that won't help in playing strategies in PvP or Boss hunting. The whole point of my post was about gaming in general, not about specifically runescape. Yes in Runescape there is (currently) a 200$ limit a day. But this is a limit defined by Jagex. It is a barrier that could be overcome or changed. The issue is that some players like to be able to compete on the same aspect. In Runescape, those aspects are efficient use of your time. We can already determine (if people are willing to truthfully share it) the number of hours spent on a game character. The fact of the game is that there *are* ways of comparing players. So while you might not find it competitive because you don't care about comparing yourself to another player, it is *possible* to be competitive.

Yes, time spent in game is a luxury that not many people can afford. However, the difference is that everyone has a maximum number of hours per day or per month they can physically play. (24 hours a day). EVERYONE will always have a maximum of 24 hours in one day that they could play. Money doesn't work that way. A person with more money can use that ot make even more. There isn't a limit on how much money a person can spend in a given day (assuming they have it.) That's the difference between time and money. A person who can spend 24 hours a day will never be able to spend more than that. Being able to spend money on the game creates a much bigger impact than time spent.

The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
It is obviously rebindable 1) you can reassign keys. 2) you can reassign slots. That's not what I meant. Rebindable as in bindable to mouse scroll wheel, alt/shift keys, etc. ^ 1) you can reassign keys. We don't know if you can bind them to combo (ctrl+a) keys, or the mouse wheel yet. Hence my original post. Derp. Yes we do know They said in the latest BTS video quite clearly you can reassigned action bar items to almost any SINGLE KEYBOARD key, including a-z 1-0 and some of the symbols. He wants them as combination keys like ctrl-q or alt-w, or assignable to the mouse scroll wheel (though that is already the camera). Shift for different bars is pretty okay for me at least. I am aware of what he wanted, my point was in the video they explained what we could do. And that was assign a SINGLE keyboard key of choice to each hotbar action, which directly rules out things like ctrl+q or w/e, not a single stroke and seeing how much depth they went into with and it and menu cleared said 'assign key' it also occludes mouse inputs. I mean for actual actions not switching the bars. Again I am aware of what you were saying, the point was shift+number already has a set action, so even if they did implement dual keys to hotbar actions it is unlikely the shift combos would become usable. [/hide] None of that made any sense, nor did it answer the question. If they don't allow fully rebindable keys, I'll go WTF. You aren't making sense. Some key combinations can't be bound because the java applet has to catch them. And it would suck if you bound say Ctrl-Q and lost focus on the java app and closed your browser. Being able to bind modifier keys is a lot more difficult to program. If that isn't what you wanted, could you please attempt more detail of your idea? :)

Runescape is hardly "competitive", at least by my definition. Competition, in my opinion, is besting other players in a tournament setting for prizes (usually cash). When I played Super Smash Bros. Brawl competitively, I traveled to various cities and states to play for money. When I played League of Legends competitively, I fought match after match every Sunday with my team in hopes of winning Riot Points or Alienware gear. I can see how some people might consider PKing and staking competitive, but all the prizes are virtual. I can't see people grinding solely because they want to show others how much experience they have by comparison. @99134: Agreed. It is a competitive game as long as players can measure themselves against each other. It may not have tournaments like other games do. That doesn't mean people don't play it competitively. Sure, you might not... But tell that to the people going for 200m in every single skill, competing for ranks on the front page of the highscores.

Without the need to move around interfaces during high-tension moments, it should be a lot easier to do many activities like low-alch fishing and so forth.

RuneCast and BTS Video discussion.
I'm hoping its balanced so that people want to use ultimates as soon as they have a good target. So that even in slayer you want to use the ultimates.

RuneCast and BTS Video discussion.
Interesting. Considering ultimate moves require the bar but thresholds dont, I suppose longer cooldown time is worth it. Lets hope ultimates are balanced so that you want to use them, even though it disables threshold moves. I hope the threshold moves aren't so good that it becomes "get to threshold and never use ultimates because you can keep using thresholds". However, it appears that all abilities have a cooldown timer too (based on that video)

It may well change during the beta. But I hope they don't just eliminate the real need for combat runes in mage. Cheaper is good though :)

As far as we know, abilities won't have rune costs... Ala, cheap magic.

You are speculating on one part of a change that will revise everything we know about the game. We don't know if base spell xp will remain constant or not. Also surge boxes will be inside dungeons only. Sure air staffs might work.. But I think base spell xp will be changing.

Afkable 99 mage for free? Ok. You'd have to keep monsters available though, not 100% afk? And we have no idea what the xp rate would be.

This.. could be very bad for the rune market. Maybe they rebalance other spells to need those runes? I really don't know.. Seems crazy!
