I am not sure about the staking part.. maybe i am wrong.. THe fire giants in the waterfall you should do the waterfalll quest Then when you center the area go to the small room with 4 fire giants finding safespot is a no brainer thing to do.

If you are 1 def a DDSer will pwn you in staking.. so if you want 99 ranged you might need some defense. Have you tried fire giants?

You dont really need ice glove Wear a normal glove and you can fight the smoke dungeon one.. but you CANT use any weapon.. so just cast spell without staff
