Fallout 3
Don't forget that power armour needs to be repaired just like everything else. There's a few suits hidden in the game that are found in a good state of repair, but the stuff that you loot off dead bodies usually isn't too good.

Fallout 3
Yeah, that was a cool twist. I've finished the game, but gone back to a save where I wasn't railroaded yet so that I can get to level 20 first.

Fallout 3
I'm still toughing it out without a companion. I've reached a point in the game where super mutants suddenly all have weapons in top condition, and I regularly end up selling off a stack of >70% assault rifles.

Fallout 3
[hide=]Yeah, I'd like to have seen some sort of 'blackmail' option where you can threaten to activate the Chinese Invasion if he doesn't release your dad and you, with an extra option depending on your speech skill to also release the vault dwellers for extra karma.[/hide] Are you sure? I don't have a Live account and it works fine for me...

Fallout 3
Turns out not finding the 'nice' solution to the simulation area actually helped me, as the loss of karma firmly put me in the neutral zone of the good <> evil spectrum, which goes nicely with the perk that gives +30 to my speech skill as long as I'm neutral. It has already payed off in 1000 caps :D[hide=]I'm completely stuck trying to find my way into Vault 87... I've reached the kids' settlement, but I can't get them to open the gate at the end of Murder Pass. I've been sorely tempted to just smear the stupid brats across the cavern walls, but the game won't let me.[/hide]Also, abandoned vaults are seriously depressing :(

Fallout 3
Finally got around to using a laser rifle, even took the Commando perk since I rarely seem to be using pistols at all anymore. I do find it odd that when you score a critical for the kill and your enemy goes all pile of ashes on you, you can still scavenge their armour.

Fallout 3
Yeah, I've noticed. They should have named the dog 'Decoy', that's all it seems to be good for. It is kind of cool to make a super mutant's head go all Jackson Pollock though.

Fallout 3
Man, it took me forever to find out how to get into Rivet City -.- Also, super mutants are surprisingly easy to deal with even with just a hunting rifle.[hide=]The super mutant behemoth sequence outside GNR has been the coolest part of the game so far.[/hide]I also seem to have a somewhat annoying glitch where Dogmeat just randomly dies when I load certain saves. Has anyone else had this problem?

Fallout 3
[hide=]Well, I'm not too far into the game yet (can't play again until tomorrow night ), but you can get your own place pretty much as soon as you enter the town of Megaton and disarm the nuke in the middle of it. It takes a minor investment in the explosives skill. If you were nice to the sherriff he'll give you your own place which you can decorate with some useful objects from the store.[/hide]You really have to be careful between settlements... I was walking towards Megaton, saw a strange light out of the corner of my eye, decided to investigate, and promptly got roasted to a crisp by a raider with a flamethrower :|

Fallout 3
Merged with the existing topic for convenience.. As for people calling it Oblivion with guns... it's not. It uses a radically different system called SPECIAL, the same system that was used for the previous two Fallout games. This means that your stats (Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, Luck) are pretty much locked from the start and leveling up will give you points to put in skills such as Science, Unarmed Combat, Barter, etc.. The chance (and amount of) success when using a skill depends on how much points you've put in it, combined with relevant stats. I won't get into perks, as that's another headache altogether :P If you want to compare it to an existing RPG, I think the closest thing to it is Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. You still have to aim your gun, but whether or not you actually hit heavily depends on your skill points.

Banned Books
I can see school libraries banning certain books. After all, a 13 year old really doesn't need to read the writings of Marquis de Sade. As for public libraries, I think first and foremost quality should be the standard by which books are selected. Community standards could play a role, but should not be the first consideration. I don't think any book should be banned from sale to consenting adults though.

"No God" adverts to run on bendy buses in London
First of all, please keep this topic on-topic. Yeah, I was confused by that comment as well. Say what you want about Dawkins' ideas, but if you actually read his books and articles you'll see that he does know a lot about evolutionary biology, religion and philosophy. You might not agree with the statements he makes based on that knowledge, but that's no reason to call him an idiot. I think he knows more about the bible than the average Christian.

"No God" adverts to run on bendy buses in London
The adverts weren't just put there to promote atheism, but also, as the news article pointed out, to get people to think about things. In his book 'The God Delusion', Dawkins talks extensively about changing perspective. For example, the changed perspective of nineteenth-century geology gave people a new view of the history of their world, not just the theory of evolution but also the dawn of civilization. It makes people think, and that's always a good thing. To be honest I find the statement calling atheism "a danger to the public at large" far harsher than the text on the bus.

South park- Season 11 discussion thread
Well he didn't really get his comeuppance, did he? He still thinks he's a cool kid that everybody likes and Wendy is likely the one that ends up being punished.

Fallout 3
And Europe got neither :( Regarding Power Armour, I just read that you need to take a perk in order to wear it. I think this is a really elegant way to balance the item, depending on the requirements needed to take the perk.

Fallout 3
Ehrm, as far as I know, the IGN and Gamespot awards are picked by the editors, not by the fans. Same for pretty much every other award listed there. Just because it's an RPG made by Bethesda doesn't mean it's like the other RPG made by Bethesda, only with guns. The Fallout setting and SPECIAL system have been around for more than ten years and developed completely independently from the Elder Scrolls games. In other news, based on the amount of points on my customer card, the local game shop has upgraded my pre-order to a limited edition \

Fallout 3
No topic for this game of the year contender? For shame... For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Fallout game series, the main series consists of RPGs set in a world where 21st century America is a nuclear wasteland following the two hours of nuclear exchange that made up World War 3. Just in case of such a scenario the US government has constructed vaults all over the country. However, by the time the nukes started falling the Boy Who Cried Wolf effect meant that only a fraction of the people who booked themselves a spot in an underground vault actually made it inside, which is just as well since vault capacity was nowhere near what was needed to protect the entire population. The game starts in Vault 101, buried deep under the irradiated wasteland that once was Washington DC, in the year 2277, 36 years following the events of Fallout 2. Even though this vault was never meant to open you wake up one day to find your father gone, and you're left with no option but to venture out into the unfamiliar wasteland to find him. The game itself is based on the SPECIAL system (Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, Luck). These stats are fixed at the start of the game (except for optional surgeries and stuff like that) and pretty much control everything. Besides that you have combat and non-combat skills such as small arms, unarmed, speech and science that allow you to approach every mission with very varying tactics.

Pokemon Thread
Pokémon Platinum does bring some interesting changes to the competitive metagame. Some moves have been changed (Hypnosis accuracy dropped to 60%), there are some new level up moves (Nasty Plot Darkrai) and a whole host of new move tutors.
