What would have happened if... (alternate history thread)
Democritus pretty much only contributed the name 'atom'. His idea of atoms is that everything gives off small particles, which we take in through our eyes. According to him, if we take in horse particles and man particles and we mix them in our mind, we dream of centaurs.

Wrestling face off
UFC is something very different from the two companies you listed. It's Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), not professional wrestling. Anyway, I'd have to go with none of the above. WWE is too much sports entertainment, they have a lot of talent, but they also employ a lot of bodybuilders/sideshow acts that produce very boring matches every time they step into the ring. TNA has a great talent pool but very poor booking/writing that takes all the fun out of watching them. My vote would be Ring of Honor, closely followed by CHIKARA, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, SHIMMER Women Athletes and Pro Wrestling NOAH. If you're looking for a true alternative to WWE, do yourself a favour and head to the Ring of Honor site and buy a DVD. They cost half of what a WWE PPV costs, and you get great quality wrestling every time. My personal recommendation is Glory By Honor VI, Night 2. The main event is Mitsuharu Misawa vs. KENTA for the GHC Heavyweight Title. Also on the card are Bryan Danielson vs. Takeshi Morishima, The Briscoes vs. The Age of the Fall, No Remorse Corps vs. The Vulture Squad, Naomichi Marufuji vs. Claudio Castagnoli, Chris Hero vs. El Generico and much more. Bonus match (from SHIMMER Volume 9): Amazing Kong vs. MsChif. Real women's wrestling, not the playboy models WWE wheels out.

Symptoms Of Zombie Infection!
The Keeper's Diary from the Resident Evil remake for the Gamecube: Keeper's Diary May 9, 1998 Played poker tonight with Scott and Alias from Security, and Steve from Research. Steve was the big winner, but I think he was cheating. Scumbag. May 10, 1998 One of the higher-ups assigned me to take care of a new creature. It looks like a skinned gorilla. Feeding instructions were to give it live animals. When I threw in a pig, the creature seemed to play with it... tearing off the pig's legs and pulling out the guts before it actually started eating. May 11, 1998 At around 5 A.M., Scott woke me up. Scared the sh*t out of me, too. He was wearing a protective suit. He handed me another one and told me to put it on. Said there'd been an accident in the basement lab. I just knew something like this would happen. Those bastards in Research never sleep, even on holiday. May 12, 1998 I've been wearing the damn space suit since yesterday. My skin's getting grimy and feels itchy all over. The goddamn dogs have been looking at me funny, so I decided not to feed them today. Screw 'em. May 13, 1998 Went to the Infirmary because my back is all swollen and feels itchy. They put a big bandage on it and told me I didn't need to wear the suit anymore. All I wanna do is sleep. May 14, 1998 Found another big blister on my foot this morning. I ended up dragging my foot all the way to the dog's pen. They were quiet all day, which is weird. Then I realized some of them had escaped. Maybe this is their way of getting back at me for not feeding them for the last three days. If anybody finds out, I'll have my head handed to me. May 16, 1998 Rumors going around that a researcher who tried to escape the estate last night was shot. My entire body feels hot and itchy and I'm sweating all the time now. I scratched the swelling on my arm and a piece of rotten flesh just dropped off. What the hell's happening to me? May 19, 1998 Fever gone but itchy. Today hungry and eat doggie food. May 21, 1998 Itchy itchy Scott came ugly face so killed him. Tasty. 4 / / Itchy. Tasty.

omfg i think i broke my wrist
I'd say the chances of finding someone with the necessary medical knowledge in the emergency room is quite a bit better than the chances of finding someone like that on the Off-Topic forums. Just go to the emergency room, and if a possible broken wrist is something that makes your parents angry then... well, wow.

What would have happened if... (alternate history thread)
Actually, it wasn't the climate that did them in. Compared to where they came from, the climate of Newfoundland was quite pleasant and the longer days meant that they could form a productive colony. What did them in was a combination of infighting and constant hostilities with the locals. Really hope you're making some sort of joke I'm missing :uhh:

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Im so stuck right now with this bellum dude. He's like the king of ds bosses.. Very hard atm. keep tyring= keep dying, any tips? :ohnoes: First phase or second phase? Since it's probably the second phase (that's what took me the longest anyway), here's the short version of it:[hide]Once your fairy has been caught, try luring it into a corner and slashing at it while dodging its blows. Eventually you'll get the screen-rub thing you also got while dueling the female pirate. Beat that and quickly strike him, the fairy should release another orb. Look at the top screen for the eye to open, then quickly activate it and hack at the eye. Repeat until dead.[/hide]

What would have happened if... (alternate history thread)
December 2, 1942, 3:20PM CST. Chicago Pile-1, the first human-created nuclear reactor goes critical as planned, then has a high-energy supercriticality excursion resulting in the destruction of the reactor, a good portion of the University Of Chicago, the immediate deaths of all persons present, plus hundreds and possibly thousands of collateral deaths from radioactive contamination. Nuclear research is set back by nearly a decade. Germany is defeated. Europe is divided between the US and Soviets. After a long campaign of firebombings during which most of their population is killed and a massive US-led invasion that totalled 100,000 American and 500,000 combined Japanese military and civilian deaths, Japan capitulates on August 12th, 1947. Sensing US weakness after the protracted Japanese campaign, the USSR begins advancing across western Europe. Full-scale conventional war breaks out between NATO and the USSR. A weakened NATO fights a rear guard action while retreating across western Europe. On July 28th, 1953 the world's first nuclear weapon is detonated in the New Mexico desert. Three weeks later, NATO begins unrestricted counterforce and countervalue nuclear bombing against Soviet Russia. Kiev, Leningrad and Moscow cease to be habitats for human life along with Prague, Warsaw, Berlin, Helsinki and other European cities. Soviet industry is annihilated. After the outbreak of NATO/Soviet hostilities, all possible intelligence leaks within the US nuclear program were disposed of. The USSR has no nuclear weapons program of its own. In a panic move, the USSR launches the largest human wave assault in Earth's history in order to eliminate the NATO presence in western Europe and the British Isles. 75% of Soviet troops are killed by tactical nuclear strikes. In the aftermath of irretrievable losses of troops and the destruction of nearly all industry and urban centres, the USSR fragments internally along party lines. While NATO fights a bitter war of attrition against Party Loyalist holdouts in western Europe, the USSR ceases to be a coherent nation. All surviving political factions in Russia capitulate to NATO. The date is October 4th, 1957. --- Any alternative histories you'd like to share?

Homosexuality - Gay Bashing?
Not going to wade into this beehive too deep (especially with someone who uses the word 'tolerant' to describe this :uhh:), but as a resident of the first country in history with fully legalized gay marriage, I have to say it's been working out fine so far. No tornadoes, locusts, droughts, famines, no satanic cults slaughtering young male virgins in orgy-like rituals... The latest reports I read on children adopted into the house of a same-sex couple indicate that the only difficulty these families encounter is being treated negatively by people outside the family circle because of the parents' sexual orientation. Other than that, there was no evidence that the children being raised by gay parents were any worse off than straight parents (and before everybody starts yelling for links, it's written in Dutch).

Concerts
Next (planned anyway, could always change) concert for me is Paganfest on April 3rd; Korpiklaani, Ensiferium, Tyr, Moonsorrow and other folk bands from the grim and frostbitten northern wastes. I feel like sacking something \

Two new Soul Calibur IV characters revealed...
Yoda and Darth Vader are going to be in Soul Calibur IV. I guess they're just being used as bonus characters, which really isn't all that strange considering they've used Link and Spawn in the past...

Any gigs lined up, chaps?
Just ordered my tickets for Paganfest in April, featuring Ensifirium, Korpiklaani, Moonsorrow, Tyr and Eluveite.

Your Greatest Fears
Electrocution I guess... I once got trapped in an electrical fence when I had to retrieve a ball from a field. My friends pressed down the bottom wire with their feet and I crawled through it, but on my way back one of them let their foot slip and the wire snapped up, and I kind of bounced up and down between them until they pulled me out. I regularly take the train into and out of Amsterdam, and they have high speed trams that have bright yellow third rails running along the rails, and they always make me a little uneasy.

The New American Gladiators
American Gladiators 2008 is the greatest and most necessary remake in the history of television. Not only because it allows Laila Ali to pretend she̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s a woman, but because it gives common American folk a second chance to root for the everyman, the weekend warrior, the true American heroes like shark fisherman, Adam Levin. In order to fully comprehend the spectacle that is American Gladiators 2008, one must be familiar with the original version that aired twenty years ago. The show was more or less a culmination, no, wait, an explosion of the Reagan-inspired misogyny, racism, violence, and sweaty homoerotic fervency that saturated the movie and television industry throughout the 1980s. Let̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s be realistic, nobody watched the show to see the women compete and nine times out of ten, a black contestant was pitted against a white contestant. Hell, the only original black gladiator was portrayed as an untrustworthy two-face named Gemini who happened to suffer from Dissociative Identity Disorder. And remember Malibu? Kip Winger̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s gay surfer brother from California? At its heart, the original American Gladiators was truly a shameless celebration of stereotyping and mullets, rather than a competition of any real substance or prestige. Reruns air every weeknight on ESPN Classic. Of course a lot of stuff had to be toned down for the more politically correct 21st century (although you wouldn't know it from looking at Toa, a Samoan gladiator complete with skirt and wishbone necklace), but it's still there if you're willing to look for it. A great moment was Hogan saying ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬ÅOkay, now we̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢re gettin̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ serious because the men are up next.̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ

Homosexuality - Gay Bashing?
Fook, the whole idea of homosexuals not being allowed to adopt because the kids would be bullied is pretty damn stupid if you ask me. Kids can be cruel, and if they want to be bullies they'll use anything. Handicap, skin colour, income, religion, etc.. Just address the bullying when it happens by explaining that it's nothing to bully about, but don't draw any extra attention to it.

Homosexuality - Gay Bashing?
People who eat shellfish are unclean: These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat. And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you: They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination. Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you. -- Leviticus 11:9-12 Handicapped people are banned from church: Then the LORD said to Moses, "Tell Aaron that in all future generations, his descendants who have physical defects will not qualify to offer food to their God. No one who has a defect may come near to me, whether he is blind or lame, stunted or deformed, or has a broken foot or hand, or has a humped back or is a dwarf, or has a defective eye, or has oozing sores or scabs on his skin, or has damaged testicles. Even though he is a descendant of Aaron, his physical defects disqualify him from presenting offerings to the LORD by fire. Since he has a blemish, he may not offer food to his God. However, he may eat from the food offered to God, including the holy offerings and the most holy offerings. Yet because of his physical defect, he must never go behind the inner curtain or come near the altar, for this would desecrate my holy places. I am the LORD who makes them holy. -- Leviticus 21:16-23 Barbershops are dens of professional sinners: Do not clip your hair at the temples, nor trim the edges of your beard. -- Leviticus 19:27 Those are just some examples, all from the same book of the bible that condemns homosexuality...

Homosexuality - Gay Bashing?
...can I? :anxious: I honestly could care less about sexual orientation though... I'll bust out Leviticus (the book the most quoted anti-gay passage comes from) and look for some similar rules. We're all going to hell \

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Getting that courage crest on to my map really stumped me, but otherwise I managed to get through the game just fine. It was fun, just really easy, probably the easiest Zelda game I've ever played.

Games You Have Beaten Without Cheating.
Most recently I finished Phantom Hourglass for the DS... probably the easiest Zelda game I ever played, but still a lot of fun. I loved the two headed dragon and giant stone golem bosses.
