Made My First Million :) How did you make yours?
I picked up a red halloween mask when they were dropped. I made my first million (and ten million) when its market value passed that mark :P

Drawball - New Recruits Needed!
To those of you who feel that their hard work was for nothing... just remember, every time you draw a line, one of those slavering mongooses has to erase it, thus keeping them off the streets for a few more seconds. You're doing your community a service ;)

The Offical TIF American Elections thread
http://www.crooksandliars.com/2008/09/1 ... nst-obama/ Seriously though, I'm surprised at how dirty the McCain campaign has gotten. There's "dirty" and then there's "Karl Rove thinks you're going too far".

Sarah Palin
But according to that article, Palin's town is pretty much the only one in Alaska that expects the victims to pick up the tab, going directly against state law.

Sarah Palin
But until they got taken over a few days ago, not government funded or controlled. Anyway, if you want to know just how far Mrs. Palin's willingness to cut into the budget goes... While she was mayor of Wasilla, victims of rape would have to pay for the rape kits used to examine their bodies for evidence.

The Wrestler
Has anyone seen this film yet? It's the latest film by director Aronofsky, starring Mickey Rourke as a washed up professional wrestler who struggles with his forced retirement after a heart attack, trying to settle into a relationship with an aging stripper and her son. However, the temptation of one last match with his old nemesis The Ayatollah (based heavily on The Iron Sheik) seems too strong to resist even though it could kill him. The movie's wrestling scenes were taped at shows of independent wrestling federations Combat Zone Wrestling and Ring of Honor. By shooting at actual wrestling shows they've managed to add a ton of emotion to the bouts that extras could never bring. Furthermore the small venues and lower production values really add a gritty realism to the fall that Mickey Rourke has made from eighties super stardom. What's perhaps most surprising of all is that it's a professional wrestling movie that doesn't suck. It has already won the prestigious Golden Lion at the Venice film festival, and Fox Searchlight has picked up the distribution rights. It will be shown in American theaters after it finishes its tour of festivals, and there's even talk of Fox Searchlight pushing Mickey Rourke for an Oscar nomination for best leading actor. If this happens the movie would probably see a worldwide theater release, which means more exposure for independent wrestling :D

Combat
Meh, most of my fights have been 'friendly' sparring with my younger brothers. They usually end with one of us grabbing a headlock or full nelson and waiting until the other gives up. The last real fight I was in was rather unspectacular as well. I had apparently insulted this drunk guy to the point where he decided to wait for me outside the bar. The entire fight was basically me repeatedly whipping my keffiyeh in the general direction of his face until he told me to go bleep myself and stumbled off into the night.

Some fun with your last name
http://www.publicprofiler.org/worldnames/Default.aspx Basically you fill in your last name, and it shows you how common (per million people) your name is in the world (using data from North America, Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand and India mostly). It's a fun way to get a few hints of the ethnicity of the paternal side of your family at least :) Now my last name is an uncommon spelling of a pretty common last name (comparable to names ending in -son for English or Scandinavian countries). Not surprisingly The Netherlands is the country where my name is most common (~25 per million), but for some reason the name is more popular in Ireland (#2) than in neighbouring countries Belgium and Germany (#3 and #10, respectively). The most common spelling of my last name is almost thirty times more common than my own spelling, and besides The Netherlands is most common in New Zealand, Canada and Australia, followed by Belgium. This makes a lot of sense considering that a lot of Dutch people migrated to these three countries after World War 2. Still funny to see the impact this had on the census.

Sarah Palin
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0908/13098.html - Palin linked to antisemitism again. As late as two weeks ago she attended a sermon of Jews for Jesus, an evangelical organization that aggressively seeks to convert Jews, and who claims that terrorist attacks on Israel are God's judgment.

Sarah Palin
And Palin in even more trouble... She has been a member of, and still actively supports (addressing this year's convention of) the Alaskan Independence Party, who's motto is "Alaska First, Alaska Always" (nice contrast to John McCain's "America First") and who seeks to have a statewide poll on whether or not Alaska should secede.

Looks like the Republican convention is on hold because of Gustav...

Sarah Palin
I think what could truly come back to bite them is the fact that she was an active supporter of pat Buchanan. This could end up costing McCain Florida.

The Offical TIF American Elections thread
I believe that Palin's stance on abortion (not even in the case of incest or rape) is probably enough to scare off a lot of democrats and independents. She might actually end up costing McCain the state of Florida, as she has actively supported, to the point of participating fund raisers for, the 2000 presidential campaign of Pat Buchanan. The fact that she's firmly in the pockets of big oil will also be used against her.

The Offical TIF American Elections thread
Paraphrasing from McCain's appearance on Jay Leno's show: Leno (joking): For one million dollars, how many houses do you have? McCain: I was a POW! Is this the answer McCain is going to give whenever he gets asked a hard question? It would make for some interesting debates...

Biking help.
Two important points that could really save you a lot of grief: 1) Make sure the tire tension is right. Underinflated tires put a lot of stress on your knee joints and could result in long term problems. 2) Use a bike without shocks. Shock absorbers are great for mountain biking, but when you take a bike with shocks out on the road the shocks will absorb a lot of energy that could be put into pushing you forward in stead.

The Offical TIF American Elections thread
Since searching both through the search button and ctrl+F didn't reveal any official election thread since February 2008 I'm going to assume that whatever we had was lost in the forum rollback after our recent issues. Therefor, with all the presidential candidates being pretty much locked in by now, it's time to start a new one. To start things off on a light note, I'll write your convention floor coverage right now. "Uhhh, Tim, it looks like the plasma screens have a slightly sluggish colour gamut from here, but I have to say, considering the scale, they should be very happy with the contrast ratio." "How many lumens is that, Necromagus?" "Tim, I'm guessing its what we call in the business an Eclipse. From 500 yards, its as bright as the sun." "Any sign yet of the actual, you know, Democrats?" "Not yet, but this stage is here and its magnificent. The flying buttresses and slanted roofwork is impeccable historical work, a fabulous reading of mid-18th century Italian cathedrals use of trompe d'oeil and if I'm not mistaken, a little sprinkle of the Sagrada Familia as well. I have to say, to make it a bit more modern, it reminds me of the control room in The Prisoner, Tim." ".. What's that, Necromagus?" "The Prisoner, Tim. Just one of many paranoid television and film references I'll be making throughout the convention coverage. One more thing to note, Tim, is that the Clinton reptoids have decided to shed their human skin prior to festivities here, perhaps to get the initial shock out of the way as a show of solidarity with Senator Obama. Insiders had feared that the sight of a couple of thousand screaming varicose juggernauts ripping apart the thin human facade seperating them from the pages of Boethius' Bestiary of the Pit might distract from the policy speeches." "And the protests outside?" "We're being told that the Denver police has strict instructions to only beat up white people this time around, Tim. Probably a good thing too, considering the way Fox has been playing those epilepsy-inducing Sambo videos all weekend." "One last thing, Necromagus, has their been any word as to when the Vice-Presidential nominee will appear on stage?" "Well, as you know, Tim, its going to be difficult. Ever since the Senator picked a fictional character as Vice-President, questions have been burning up the blogs and the press about just how the powers of the office would be executed... and.. oh, wait... here, speak of the devil! We can see him approach the stage for a test run, lets go in for a close up of our new potential veep..."

Turned away from university
While I think that a criminal record could be a reason to deny an application, in this case it clearly wasn't the right thing to do. He had served his time and the crime wasn't even on his record, and they only kicked him out after he told them, which he didn't have to do. He obviously has the brains for it too. Fun fact: Thanks to the War on Drugs in America, someone with a homicide on their criminal record can still apply for a college scholarship, while someone with a drug-related felony is automatically denied one.

Attention all Offtopic Users...Project Offtopic is Underway
Abyssalwhip, nobody is keeping you here, and if our interpretation and enforcement of our rules doesn't suit you you're welcome to shift your attention to one of the many other internet forums out there, Runescape related or not. Unfortunately I haven't been as active as I'd like to be due to health reasons, but I fully support Project Offtopic and will be happy to lend a hand wherever possible.

Tip.It Pokémon tournament 1 - Brackets Posted!
I'm very sorry I haven't been in touch, it was mostly because of physical health issues. However, I still haven't had the results of the remaining quarterfinal. When I don't have a PM or a reply on my thread, the remainder of the tournament will be round-robin style with the three people who have already qualified.

Well, you still have about a day to have your final battle. Same for the other match posted. If both remaining matches miss the deadline I'll probably extend it, but since you have shown yourself online and your opponent hasn't since monday, you'll probably end up advancing by default.
