  1. The whole reason we managed to figure out how to walk on two legs and use our thumbs is because carrion became part of our diet. Meat is an invaluable source of nutrients. However, we don't need meat at our current absurd rate of consumption that puts an unnecessary amount of pressure on the ecosystem. I only eat meat once or twice a week, and I eat biologically produced meat if I can afford it. However, the whole "Billy" thing is incredibly condescending. There's probably better ways to start a thread than by a story that reads as if it was intended for five year olds.
  2. Thats sick....probably right after they raped her :wall: I've read that post four or five times now, and it still doesn't make sense... Anyway, the whole article is nonsense. Kicking and throwing are a part of many forms of martial arts, and as such end up in movies, video games, TV shows, etc.. They're way too generic to be used like this, yet they can easily be linked to any scapegoat the journalist (using that term loosely here) feels like targeting today.
  3. I wrote this about Jeff Foxworthy a while ago, but I guess it applies to the whole group: Short version: Refusal to address the audience as adults and glorifying a culture that prides itself on ignorance and bigotry.
  4. Actually, you can just tick the 'Disable Smilies in this post' box above the Submit button. :-w <-- See?
  5. No control over the RSOF, but... I glance over every story in the Varrock Library at least once. There is a minimum expected quality, and only the topics that contain truly horrible crimes against the English language will get locked. However, I'm not going to tell people what they can and can't write about. This is a Runescape forum, so you can expect Runescape stories. If you're looking for a specific story, you can check the Index sticky, which is an ongoing project I started a few weeks ago. Any author of the library is free to have their stories listed there simply by making a post.
  6. Me giving my opinion on the Blue Collar Comedy Group would be a bannable offense :uhh: Anyway... Bill Hicks, George Carlin, Doug Stanhope and most of the other Unbookables, Mike Birbiglia, Patton Oswalt, Lewis Black, Steve Hughes, Christopher Titus, Jim Norton, Jim Florentine.
  7. I can assure you I'm neither. If one post was made in August and another in December, then it would have fallen within the range of reasonable bumping. However, both your posts of the double post were made within 24 hours of each other, which isn't a reasonable bump, especially since there was nothing new to discuss. You might not care that I'm a mod (trainee) and you might not care that there are rules, but that doesn't mean that you're above them.
  8. Really, you've already been given a friendly reminder by another mod, so you hardly have an excuse.

Over here there are government campaigns every year to warn about the dangers of irresponsible use of fireworks. They can be pretty fun; back in the day when Sony was advertising with the posters that were basically just the four buttons in a row, they put out a poster with the exact same row of symbols, except for one missing. This year their campaign revolves around fake Al-Qaeda-like training videos under the name of LAAF (Liberation Army Against Freedom). They even have a website. In the videos, they present fireworks as their weapons, then demonstrate them, followed by a quick message of how to avoid getting hurt the way the 'terrorists' in the movie just did. They even have English versions up:
  12. I would have if I could, but my training ground is the Varrock Library. All I can do is continue to make my rounds until my shift ends. It would have a while ago but I think I saw Shazrabbit passed out in a pool of regurgitated eggnog and chestnut stuffing, so I think I might be here for a while :uhh:
  13. Just remember that while the mods might be out partying, their flunki- I mean *assistants* might still be taking notes :-w
  14. A large risk for ecstasy users is also the pills containing something other than MDMA, although over here you can buy testing kits to see if a pill is clean or not.
  15. Chuck Norris writes for the conservative hacks and airheads over at WorldNetDaily. That alone means that he's not worth the attention.
  16. I know a cure... Zip up your pants and have some morals... Ok, I really hope you were being sarcastic... -What about the many children that are infected through their mothers? -What about the stigma against condoms being held up by the Catholic church in Africa despite the mountains of evidence that they're basically the most effective AIDS prevention tool? -What about countries like South Africa where men who believe that sex with a virgin cures AIDS infect thousands of young women against their will each year? -What about the thousands of people that get infected in medical facilities due to lack of access of even the most basic forms of disinfection?
  17. I guess it's mostly because of the cost of running what's basically a bar (with a slightly different menu). Rent, electricity, heating, etc., they're still businesses after all.
  18. The main problem with vehicles that between mobility and protection, there's no vehicle that really fulfills both criteria. A hummer might go off-road and have great armor, but its effective range is very small due to poor mileage. Same for the steamroller really. Besides, if there's enough zombies you'd simply get stuck while they swarm you, eventually piling up high enough to get into the cabin.
  19. (My comments in bold)
  20. What capitalism does to legalized soft drugs: (The logo on the tube is the logo of the coffee shop it was bought in) Since everybody is doing the whole 'personal experience' thing, I guess I might as well explain a thing or two about the Dutch coffeeshop system... Outside of the cities where soft drugs are a major source of tourism (Amsterdam is the main one, Maastricht is popular with drug tourists from Belgium, Germany and France) you'll usually find coffeeshops concentrated around the inner city. Their opening hours are generally limited by local ordinances, most commonly 8 hours a day, six hours a week. Most coffeeshops are open in the late afternoon and evening. All coffeeshops only sell to people 18 years and over. The interior of the coffeeshop usually varies with the crowd. Some are typical hipster places with designer furniture and indy rock on the sound system. Others are a lot darker, looking more like a dive bar, with matching client̮̬̉̉le. In general you can order at a bar, then either smoke there or at a table. The actual ordering is done off a menu, and you can usually order both pre-rolled joints and just pot to roll your own. Pretty much every coffeeshop I've been to also has a small non-alcoholic bar, selling soft drinks, fruit juice, coffee, tea and snacks (varying candy bars to organic home baked bran muffins, again depending on the client̮̬̉̉le). Marijuana use is generally accepted among most of the city population, although it still bears a taboo in more rural areas. Of all my friends, I'd say 95% has absolutely no problem with marijuana use (except for maybe the smell), and about 20% uses it at least once a month. I know a few people who would be considered 'stoners' in America, but none of them seem to have problems staying in school or keeping a job. As long as you don't show up to work high or let it affect your job performance, most employers don't have a problem with what you do in the privacy of your own home. One of the major downsides of the tolerance policy is that it's pushing the supplying of the coffeeshops into the world of organized crime. Basically you're allowed to grow up to five plants for private use, which is of course nowhere near enough to supply a coffeeshop. Still, the police cracks down on large-scale growers, and only organized crime usually has the resources to stay ahead of the police. Of course this leads to competition, which leads to drug-related violence. The Christian Democrat Party and Christian Union Party who hold about 60% of the parliament seats within the current coalition are dragging their feet on full legislation, even though by now soft drug use has become so pervasive that recriminalization would cause way more problems than it would solve. Right now they're discussing cracking down on so called growshops, which supply home growers with both the hardware and the information they would need. If these shops were closed down people would still be able to get the hardware they need at garden supply stores and places like that, but without information on how to use stuff like heat lamps safely, things could get very risky indeed. As for why it is illegal - the main party responsible is the lobby of cotton farmers, who realized that hemp, as a far superior source of natural fibers, could potentially ruin them. To give you an example: In response to the growing pressure on resources due to World War 2, Henry Ford designed and built a car made out of resin-stiffened hemp fibres that could run on ethanol extracted from hemp.
  21. Well, I'd be assuming that I'd be arriving hours/days after the initial outbreak (which isn't entirely inaccurate for my current position), with the zombies having left already. But yeah, after securing all the entrances and killing off any stragglers, burning corpses would be pretty high on the to-do list. Mind you, the whole plan assumes that I can somehow suppress my natural male instincts to grab a chainsaw, strap a CD player to a dirtbike and plow through the zombie hordes with Iron Maiden's Two Minutes To Midnight blasting on loop.
  22. I'd say Bill Hicks was more of a preacher or prophet than a god... still, the god/satan he described in his routine do seem to have a lot more merit to them than most traditional versions. His bit on mushrooms as an accelerator for human evolution is brilliant, but I can't link it due to use of the s- and f-words :? "...I think we can go to the moon."
  23. Yeah, with the whole eternal love and happiness idea it seems a bit weird to get the state in on it, but people tend to forget that up to fifty years ago, love rarely had anything to do with it. Especially in upper classes it was all about consolidating the financial position of the families involved. When you consider that state marriage is (and always has been) about financial security, then I don't see why any two people who have reached the age of consent shouldn't get the full financial benefits. Sure, if a church doesn't want to marry a couple for whatever reason, then they're free not to, but the state shouldn't set limits on who you can and can't marry outside of the age limit.
