New section auf Deutsch?

Recommended Posts

So, now we've gotten our dear game in a brand new language. This most likely will bring more german speaking users to the game. As english speaking users, these new ones will most likely gather into bigger communities. If tip.it wants to grow more, they should offer something for this new population.

A new section with 2 subforums, general and market, would probably be more than enough for now. With a slight attidion like that you could hook up a big number of german speaking players and make these boards the only real place for them to gather. It wouldn't take longer than 2 mins to create those and translating rules&important stickies wouldn't take more than 1 hour max. I don't know if you have any german speaking mods yet, but it shouldn't be a too big problem to find few. After all small sections wouldn't need more than 2-3 mods and if the boards grew a lot, you would most likely have a lot of new potential mod candidates who speak fluet german :P

Sorry, but I'm going to have to disagree :-k I really don't think it's needed. Rule 2.1 (English is the Primary Language for Tip.It Forums) would have to be changed, we would have to go through the trouble of finding moderators who are not only suitable to be mods, but speek fluent German as well..

I just really don't think it's necessary to have separate boards particularly for German speakers. Afterall, Tip.it is primarily for English speakers. What happens if/when Jagex comes out with a Spanish version of the game? Would we have to create a Spanish-speaking section too? It just seems a bit far-fetched to me. I think they should either find a German fansite, or just post on the regular marketplace/discussion boards in English (or in German but with an accurate English translation).

In addition, I really don't think Tip.it should be all about 'growing,' becoming the largest/best/etc. More like we should appreciate the great community that we have and work on keeping it friendly and clean.

@tripis: There's been a dutch private forum for a long time (unless it has been disolved).

I'm for it if TIF ends up without members to justify it.

And also if there was a forum for german people, some users would insist to have forum for their language, even though RS is only in English and German, which would lead tons/few useless spam-ish posts saying "i want forum for !! it's not fair that german got theirs!"

Although, then we could say that this forum only has german and english, because RS is available in those two languages.

But then again, i know that some users (not pointing at anyone, dont worry) wouldn't care, and they would just keep on posting and whineing about the same subject.

It probably wouldn't be worthwhile unless the main website is available in German, or German players may not be interested.

Yea, and then people would just want crew to translate tip.it to many many languages :?

If Jagex are going into the other languages then why not tip.it? I'm sure there's many more advantages than disadvantages (not being bothered isn't one of them) having a german "general" and "Market" board. :)

And tripsis I'm sure it won't be too hard for an admin to change the rule over. In fact if you gave me the ability to access that part of the forums I'd be able to do it myself. :P

Well, perhaps that would be OK, if jagex released more languages than english and german?

I know this is going to sound downright mean, but I think people need to learn English. American English will do fine. Tip.It should not have to change that rule or meet a flood of "Do it in this language" demands. They're already stressed out as it is, from what I have seen in many other threads.

I agree with you with that people need to learn english.

It's way less work to learn few words than change the ENTIRE website into a whole new language

Right?

It would take approx 2mins to write a new rule which states the only allowed language is the one which is used as a main language in certain sections.

I had a quick look at Tip.IT staff list and atleast Whitestrike is German, even tho it's said she lives in the USA atm. There's your 1st mod. Running one extra section (just a subforum) wouldn't need more than 2 mods. Finding another one shouldn't be a too big task as you got almost 151k registered users atm. If you can't find a good candidate from those, then there's something really badly wrong.

I wouldn't see any problem into making one section for Spanish-speaking people either if Jagex introduced in that language too.

Every german kid learns English.

They might, but if Jagex finds it worth translating a whole game, why can't we translate even rules and make a subforum? It would be the best possible service for german speaking users and would attract more users to these boards. That way we could also drag some german speaking users to our main sections.

Thank you for taking the time and posting your suggestion. At this time I do not see a need for such additions as others have mentioned we are an English speaking community and would have to fill staff requirements etc.

German students are required to take English courses and should have no problem reading and responding on our forums. It gives them extra time and opportunities to use a skill they have learned and to further develop it.

I see however no problem for a private group/clan to contact us if they wish to have a German clan/group on our forums. It would certainly be something we would review.

Keep the ideas flowing and Happy Posting.

Every german kid learns English.

By the way, most of the players that use the german worlds aren't from germany, they are mostly dutch.

I seriously doubt that. For most Dutch people, English is better than German.

From my experience most Dutch people find the German language pretty ugly, and I agree with it.

People should learn English. The globalism these days will somewhat force you to learn English anyway.
