Darkness

As with 'Tripsis the night owl' and 'Hellbellz the womanizer' I embrace an absence of light, not complete darkness, but not far off that is fine with me. ::'

Sunlight is overrated.

:D

Have you ever bumped into a friggin' banyan tree at night?

That's pretty bloody scary.

Well, I thought a fox/dog/wolf/cat was attacking me once as I walked through the park at night. It was a bush, a [bleep]y one at that, if that counts.

They're a lot of reasons to fear it. Like 'doner' kebab? What exactly is that? Lamb? Dog? Rat? A hybrid?

doner... as in organ doner.. they dont use those kidneys and such in transplants..

Ha ha youve solved it! The great mystery if what is in doner meat :-s

Mirrors in the dark are scarey... I mean not total dark.. but when you can see a bit...

Try it go up to a mirror in the dark and look at yourself.. give a wave... 80% you'll freak out and turn the light on :P

A friend to all is a friend to none.

I remember an episode of The X Files in which there was a murderous doll that caused people to kill themselves, shortly before which their apparition would be seen by the protagonist in a window where it is dark outside.

I didn't like looking at windows when it was dark outside for a while after that, then again I was under 10 I think.

I do not love thee, Dr. Fell,

The reason why I cannot tell;

But this I know, and know full well,

I do not love thee, Dr. Fell.

Darkness, especially watching a scary movie, ignites our imagination's (no pun intended) "dark" side. Who knows what could be hiding were you can't see? It's very unlikely, but our brains trick us into thinking that anything could be there in the shadows. The result? We get scared. Its all really one big subconscious mind game, being afraid of the dark.

Also, darkness is useful...ladies. 8-)

Shouldn't that be:

Also, darkness is useful...ugly ladies. 8-)

Your post was good about this Bubsa. I was laughing when I read it. My brain just interpreted it a slightly different way than yours before I had even read your response so I decided to share.

As to darkness and the original poster I'm not sure. It's weird with me because sometimes in the same house with nothing being different one night I get creeped out by the dark and other nights it's no big deal at all and I could care less. If I was just scared of the dark then I would always be scared of the dark but that isn't the case. I don't get it...

If I hadn't ever watched a movie, played a video game, or read a book I'd probably be fine in the dark. But some of the stuff you read or watch gets scary sometimes. Darkness reminds me of that stuff, and that kind of overrides the thought that it's just made up.

I really wouldn't call it an era. It was more of a definitive time period during which dinstinctive characteristics were expressed in similar ways.

That's what's bothering me about all the "I'm not scared of the darkness at all" posts. You'd literally have to not even be exposed to modern media at any time in your life to not have the idea that something's going to pop out at you in the dark...

As I said before, I don't watch horror movies, but I still get the feeling there could be something in the darkness, just from frikking commercials for horror movies, and maybe watching too much Scifi channel :-k .

Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.

Humans are afraid of the unknown.

The darkness hides that which could be known.

Thus, humans are afraid of the darkness.

I hate when I get into situations where the room is dark and the light switch is miles away. Once, I had to pee, but didn't go because of the darkness. Recently. >.<

For those concerned, I relieved myself when morning broke. Seven hours later. Even then, I ran, due to the fact that I was sleeping in a friend's basement.

Drip drip drip

I'm not scared of darkness and I have been exposed to the media of horror movies. The trick is to realize that horror is made up, and no ghost is gonna pop out of nowhere. Logic > Irrational Fear :)

Oh, and it's also nice to believe that someone is watching, guiding, and guarding you.

While I may not be afraid of the dark, I still get that hair raising feeling in pitch black darkness. Oddly enough, I very much enjoy being in a cold, dark crawlspace with only myself, the spiders, and things that creek when accidentally touched. The thrill of anticipating something that will make you jump, as well as the actual scare, are amazing.

What's REALLY fun is walking through the woods at night, preferably with friends that scare easily.

The same reason why many people of the world fear things: The unknown. If you can't see around you it's less easier to predict what will happen. We humans always want to know. That's why some people fear death, they don't know what will happen. Why some people fear eating kebabs sober, they don't know what will happen.

That's exactly what I was going to say...

BTW, read "Nightfall" by Asimov.

Losers...

Are you blind or ignoring me on purpose?

Even though I sometimes side with religious people in some debates, I no longer consider myself religious.
