'Strange Scrolls' - an idea to stop macroing

The problem with macroers isn't easy to solve. However:

As 3D models are 'macroable' I thought about this:

Instead of getting a mysterious box from the Mysertious old man, you would get a scroll. Click the scroll to open it. It will pop-up similar to what a Newcomer Map does when you click it. Now, it would say a question. Then four alternatives to answer it. Examples of question would be: "The horse is not black, and it's not red, but it is blue. What color is the horse?" and "Did the sandwich lady give you this scroll?"

And there will be like 1000 questions. Yes, 1k questions. Why not? It would take a day for Jagex to write one thousand simple questions (which would be a good punishment for their bad updates  , nah, jk) but once they are written we are one step closer to a game without macroers. Also, the font would randomly vary a few pixels each time so that people can't load a picture of it to identify the question.

Also, let's add randoms to shops. It's pretty obvious this needs to be done, with the new 'buying'-macroers.

EDIT:

Zoomed-in pic of showing examples of randomly screwed up letters. This must be RANDOM, not three premade letters, but random pixels added / removed.

No, I really don't play anymore.

Is that 1000 questions you have to answer at one time or 1000 possible answers to the questions.

I actually think they should have a question for every day, that way there is no way a macro could solve it, unless the programmer is VERY good and can somehow create advanced AI on the auto, in which case Runescape is !@#$%^ because the IQ of the average 'Scaper would probably be within 10 points of what these autos could have (I have no experience whatsoever in programming, so dont flame about my lack of knowledge, just point it out and correct me)

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

First of all,we dont really want macroers to 'rest in peace' we want them to rest in hell :DDDD

Off topic: How about this then? R.I.P=Rest In Pieces, lol.

On topic: Great Idea! It could really help, and most people wouldn't be bothered that much by it, =).

yer thats gooood!!! its a song by the band saliva too :P

on topic: i honestly think jagex should take a look at these ideas becaus some of them, like this one, are exceptional!

Nice, I support this idea. :D

I think autos can recognize different fonts or "screwed-up" letters the same way that the game Brain Age for the Nintendo DS can recognize differently written numbers though.

The only hard part then would be solving the problem. But only 1000 (or any set number of) questions could probably be coded into the autos, making your scrolls ineffective.

This could work if the letters were pictures though. There's my 2 cents. :D

what if the autoers simply drop the scroll/box or bank it so when their owners log in they can solve it without problem

probably wouldnt take crazy programming skills, which would then be spread around technology

but nice idea i supports

There is 1000 questions in the 'database', and when you open your scroll you get a random one of them.

I actually think they should have a question for every day

Would be awsome, but lots of people would complain about the system updates every day. Plus, it wouldn't be TOO hard for the macroers to wait for midnight and the new question and code code a macro that solves it. Then they would still have 24 hours of macroing.

You won't be able to drop it. If you do, it'll just duplicate itself, like the box.

No, I really don't play anymore.

this would only slow down some, most modify client so the server says to the client

display pic (of screwed up letters)

if player clicks (the right answer), delete scroll

give random prize

im not sure if im wrong or not if you understand. the client and the program recieve this message and can solve it with ease

perhaps it send the answer to the server then the server accepts it, this might work. although people might get annoyed at the waiting

im not saying i support but good idea, it has been suggested before but this is prolly the best

Don't really support this idea. That would slow down them for a week or 2, but definately not stop them and even less made them rest in peace. We've seen their power and ideas like this are underestimating it. Few pixel chances here or there won't help a thing, first of all the current bots are probably sending and getting packets straight from the server. How else they could be as advanced as they are? A simple color clicker would never be able to do what the autos are doing now. Also if they can manage to surive from boxes with a moving 3d image, why wouldn't they from that?

That amount of questions is also pretty much a waste. First of all Jagex would need to write 2k as there's german version too. 2nd, it would take only few days for a big community to get all the answers or at least so many, that even without playing with servers the odds to get a right answer is enough for using it.

No, that isn't the final solution. No, that wouldn't help us. The only real way to stop this autoing is to make it not worth it. I'd personally support the idea which was mentioned at Tip.IT newest article: Jagex selling rs gold for reasonable price. This would have a good affect on gp autoers and ruin their point. Most of the autoed gold is sold for rl money anyways. Another way is to add small autoban packets to rs: during every update they should change the code just a bit: edit some packets which the server sends and can be accepted by an older client version. If the client accepts them, automaticly a ban. In other words current rs client would allow a packet called XYZ and it would work normally. After next update this would be accepted only by an outdated client. Normal players wouldn't notice anything and it wouldn't affect to their gameplay at all, but autoers should find out the false packet every week and update their bots to that. I believe Jagex already has a system like this, but it should be made into more randomised and put more efford into it. It would help a lot more than adding ditches to wilderness or giving us a new random event.

I'm afraid that this simply wouldn't work. 1000's questions isnt that much, taking the number of macroers into account. THe macriong community would quickly have a record of all the questions and the correct answers, the random pixel change would be bypassed by having a macro that has a certain tolerance on how much the images can vary. Trust me that wouldn't work.

no i really think that this could work but.....

the economy would be extremely unstable for quite sometime.....

because it is of no surprise to anyone that the economy relies on the macroers ability to get the raw materials for people.....

but i really do support this and just a suggestion...

but the question could also be altered slightly.....

"The horse is not pink, and it's not brown, but it is grey. What color is the horse?"

that should not go toward the 1000 questions because the subject is the same.... but as you can see there are quite a few possibilities just for that question....

but anyways i am sure if jagex goes along with this plan they will create a lot more questions then 1000.....

wouldnt work. They could just make a code that opens the scroll, and runs through every answer possible. I used to be a mocroer on a different game. I got banned so I stopped. The game was Counter Strike

And detecting those things from the text is harder than detecting a moving 3d object like in the mystery box? That would slow them down for a few days and after updating their bots the problem would be as bad as it's now.

cuz i dont now how they do itwith the box macro maybe make the4 question for the box like:

Q: there is a sqaure a round and a triangle:

wich number is in the triangle?

2 or 4 or 6

Because i think they maybe search for the word or the number wich is in the question and then search it on the turning box and if they will do it that the text is everytime on another place then it maybe could get macroers away and if u dont answer it you cant move anymore

How does 20 minutes turn into 2.5 hours? Was your math perhaps magical math?

Detecting the right number from a spinning 3d model isn't that easy. It's a lot harder than detecting letters with a few pixel difference. I don't know how mysterious box for example is detected, but I can swear it's not guessing the right answer. Why? Because there's 1/3 odds to get it right at the first one and the more often you fail to answer, the lesser odds you got to complete it. As the odds are under 50% even at the beginning, it can't be just guessed. If it was, it would stop over 67% of current autoers.

Jagex already tried this kind of an answer in RSC and it was called fatigue. In it you gained a certain amount of fatigue from training and every time you had gained 5k xp, you had to sleep the fatigue away or you got no xp. In sleeping you used a sleeping bag and then it showed a word which you had to retype. This worked for a while, but after few months there was already many ways to get away with it -> legit players suffered and autoers didn't mind, so it was removed from rsc. If Jagex now introduced a same kind of a system, there would be bots that are able to pass it in a week max.
