April 24, 200719 yr "From now on, if you enter your exact password into the chat, the entire sentence will be blocked and you will receive the message: "You appear to be telling someone your password - please don't! If you are not, please change your password to something more obscure!" (We block the entire sentence to avoid giving hints about your password from the context.)" ^This is what it says, to clear up some things here. But this is ridiculous! Jagex has been saying all this time that it will NOT censor your password and here they've changed it so it DOES! This will cause confusion, and mark my words, will be exploited in one way shape or form. Mixed view on this, good and bad at the same time. :|
April 25, 200719 yr Lures - dead Pass scamming - dead sounds good to me My thoughts exactly :) I'm glad to see that Jagex is finally taking action against lurers and password scammers. It's nice to see that they care : - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
April 25, 200719 yr Since it's impossible to have a preset list with everyone's unique password, it's likely alil more difficult. I think that data for each player is stored as a text file accessible to the RuneScape applet and server software. The software uses methods at run time to enter the data from the text file into a Player Object as its attributes. The password is stored as a private variable within the Object, and is likely acquired by the applet and server software using a simple accessor method (perhaps Player.get()). Using a separate method to read and filter strings of text that the player enters should not be terribly difficult. It might look something like this if the processing were executed in the main class (which of course is ludicrous, but this is just illustrative of how easy it would be to code the filter in a different class). /*Assume the Client class controls chat reading/writing functions and the non-static Filter class handles Strings (with constructor public String Filter(String input))*. The "get" function of the Player class returns the Player Object's password as a string./ String chatString = Client.ReadIn(); if(chatString.contains(Banned.cussword)){ Filter(chatString); Client.Out(chatstring); //allows the edited string to pass } else if(chatString.contains(Player.password.get()) Client.PassOut(); //returns the "You're telling" message else Client.Out(chatstring); //allows the unedited string to pass } Still enjoying RuneScape?
April 25, 200719 yr This will also encourage people with common everyday words or names or the such to make them more cryptic.
April 25, 200719 yr Although this is true, it is still not wise to say your password out in the open, since a slight mistake can put your account in risk. The best way to keep your password safe is to not say it out in the open and to run virus scans regularly! 99 Hits, Attack, Strength, Defence, Mage, Summoning, Slayer, Ranged, 96/99 Prayer
April 25, 200719 yr so will i still get banned if i say "omg, jagex wont let you say your pass *****" Examine ChenGMT (level: 138)
April 25, 200719 yr finally runescape blocks your pass ends *Jagex has now declared to delete this new update* *people who are now trying it out in varrok are now shouting out their pass to everyone* *your account is logged in please try again in 60 sec.* wow if that would really happen..........................
April 25, 200719 yr So it appears that its actually true now. Runescape really does block your password, see guys , look! lol ya i know, i find this to be one of the best moves jagex has made to stop rule breaking, i wonder if ppl will still be trying this scam btw-gawd that chatbox in ur sig is so [developmentally delayed]edly funny  pure:demon_x_king
April 25, 200719 yr lol, my passwords a commonly used word that nobody would guess and now i can't use it in sentences! better go to 'change your password'
April 25, 200719 yr That's pretty smart of Jagex, it only took them a couple of years to realise... Or perhaps, this might sound crazy. Coding something that checks EVERYONE'S password, while keeping it secure, and actually checking each time to block out whole sentences that contain it. "Might" be alittle difficult. I doubt that... It's not hard to compare spelled words with words that are not allowed and replacing it with something else. Heck, they already had the chatfiler. But oh well... another update for the brainless. Well, this is true or not. A 'chatfilter' looks for naughty words, usually checkiong a pre-set list of 'naughties'. Since it's impossible to have a preset list with everyone's unique password, it's likely alil more difficult. I know quite a bit about Java, and trust me, it's pretty dang hard...
April 25, 200719 yr I spent a whole post explaining how simple it would be for the software to retrieve a player's password. If you mean analyzing a list of every player's unique password, then yes, I do believe it would be more difficult, but I hardly think they would program the software to analyze such a list when simply creating an Object to hold the password at request would be much more efficient. Still enjoying RuneScape?
April 30, 200719 yr Jagex should include an IQ test at the create a new account page (taken from another topic which I thing was locked) This seems like a good idea to prevent illiterate toddlers from creating an account an going everywhere calling other people 'noobs' when he/she him/herself is one. Llama song FTW!
April 30, 200719 yr how come we stil can't say "password" in runescape? Varrock bank. "Hey guys, even if you make one mistake in pass, it will block, look *********!"
April 30, 200719 yr I think it is another good addition to the game. so there... Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?Final Fantasy 7
April 30, 200719 yr Lures - dead Pass scamming - dead sounds good to me Lol if you think lures are dead you might whant to re-think, what's the difference of this and the other?? rofl Same thing but you have to click a button. \ *sigh* never heard of the trade drag lure have we now; I love it when fools try to prove me wrong.
April 30, 200719 yr Anyone else find jagexes idiocy amusing, I mean first when asked about doing this they say the password could come up in general converstaion and make it obvious to a would be scammer. And now this..hmm
April 30, 200719 yr That's pretty smart of Jagex, it only took them a couple of years to realise... Dude, you're an idiot #-o Dude, your feeble attempt at an insult is hilarious. ... You can tell JAGeX is British - No common sense. :notalk:Supportmage:Quick Robin,to the roflcopter!
