It's all about being the best. And when people get a taste of being the best in something, they'll let everyone know. Doesn't matter how big or how small, it's just human nature. Why do half of conversations while training start with "str lvl?" - people size each other up, and if they're the higher level, another chance to brag about it.

I think your gender and age band stereotype is inappropriate as I am a teenage male and I strong dislike bragging.

 

 

 

When it goes round asking say wc lvl and someone says like 63 I still say nice level and encourage them to keep going etc.

 

 

 

I don't think I have ever once bragged intentionally or seriously about anything I have achieved in rs

A) You're in the minority of teenage males who aren't driven by competition

 

B)Bragging has nothing to do with putting other peoples levels down you can still brag about your level while encouraging someone to get theirs up.

Anyway Back on topic,I think it is okay to brag,i mean once you get 99 in anything(yes even cooking!)it's great,and if your thread has 5k+ views,then it's obviously a great thread,so why not brag?

When someone acheives something it is human nature to brag.This doesn't mean they should :) However I find it better to congratulate people on their accomplishments and then get on with what I was doing and if they continue to brag I simply pretend to listen :wink:

I think its an american thing (enjoys the flames), in england people are more likely to say they're not as good at something whereas in America people are more confident of themselves and will say "yeah im great".

So you're the one deciding what is a good achievement to brag about and what isn't? Some people think getting level 60 in a skill is an awsome achievement, while some think getting a 99 isn't (*Cough* flecthing and cooking *Cough*).

My point is: you're saying it's alright to brag as long as it's a big achievement. But what is a good achievement? Where is the limit of when it's good to brag and when it isn't?

 

That's different to everyone and that's why people post things you'd consider (almost) noobish.

I have yet to meet someone who really has fun mining granite for more then an hour. Most of the non-combat skills training is about loads of grinding (besides farming). And hardly anyone likes that, it's (almost) all about the sence of achievement people get high levels.

I would argue differently. It is natural human behavior to show of and be better than other people. It is our very nature that we should always want to be better or smarter or _______ than everyone else.

 

 

 

Personally, I hate people like that. Runescape is all about having fun, and bragging and doing whatever it takes to get there just isn't in the nature of the game.
