Are there any upsides to logging out?

I know it is supposedly safer to log out rather than to close the window but is it? Has anyone lost an account due to normal closing? Even a feather?

I was having a bad case of lag and while reporting a scammer an evil chicken appeared! I coulden't run away because the game lagged to much.

So I closed the window!

No downsides other than I had to log in again, runescape made me wait the 30 seconds to log in, all my stuff was there, everything was normal!

I'm beginning to think that Jagex says its dangerous to just close the window because you can easily get away from a quick death!

Imagine it... log out of a fight if you're losing, pk for eternity, never take any food!!! (ok so thats over-the-top) But you get the idea. If you could just do that everyone would cheat and no-one would be a fair player!

It only tells you to log out because its the only way you would ever die! ('cause you cant during combat)

Has anyone aver had a problem after closing the window?

If not, were invincable!!!(if we're fast enough)

... If you are fighting your account will stay logged in for a bit even after you X out. If you're fighting something that could kill you during the time your char is still logged in but you don't have runescape open, then it's probably not a good idea to X out of the game.

In rsc when i was a low level i used to go pking and when i was getting killed i would panic and close the window. logged back in to see lumby. well annoying!

P2P offers more and better ways of making money than f2p. That's one of the cons you just have to play with if you don't feel like having 1 bigmac meal less per month.

You should have knocked him out and thrown him out the window (I actually did that at school).

If you log out when you're fighting by closing the window, your character keeps fighting while you're logged off. This could lead to two things:

1. When you log in again, the monster or person you fighted is dead, because your account killed it while you was logged off.

2. When you log in again, you finds yourself in Lumbridge. You have lost everything except a few items. This is because the person/monster killed you while you were logged off and you're character logged in.

I have had alot of problems with this sort of logging out. Most recently was when I was killing anokus in the SOS. I had a massive lagg, and I closed the window. Everything then worked fine, but when I logged in again...I was in Lumbridge and had lost rune and jewellery stuff for about 300k :(.

So no, we're not invincable.

Upsides to logging out:

-Your Highscores get updated

Your hiscores get updated either way.

It's just safer to use that log out button, since your character is off immediately. If you close the window or 'X' out, chances are your character will be logged in for a while & will log you out after few seconds. So if you're fighting someone there is possibility you can die.

you highscores won't get updated when you don't log out i once trained 100k atk xp at once and i looked on the highscores (didn't logged out yet) and i had my xp minus 100k

I tried it myself at the brimhaven agility course by just doing one obstacle & the hiscores did update.

To make it clear, I meant even if you 'X' out your skills get updated. At least it did for me.

I don't know if your character logged out even if you closed the browser while your in a fight.Or is it because the damn lurers hit hard on me.

Anyway,I lost 9M++ to lurers. When I was hit by the ice barrage I quickly closed the window.I was wearing a mime legs.Lost it and around 9M++ in cannonballs and steel bars.

Tomorrow morning when I logged in,I was in Lumbridge \'

So it is either it doesn't logged out during a fight or the damn lurers hit hard on me with magic. It was at level 1 wilderness!

But according to my friend he says that you don't log out when your fighting. You will log out after the fight.

Maybe someone should test this and vid it?From the attacker's view and from the defender's view?

I believe it has been said. When you are fighting then close the screen you will keep fighting. Also, when you are standing somewhere and close the screen your account will stay logged on for a little while longer.

I don't have a detailed knowledge of how the whole Runescape system works, but I think Jagex tells you not to "x out" mainly so you won't die unexpectedly. As others have said, your character will remain in game for a while if you don't log out normally. If you're in a safe area, that's not a problem, but if you're in a dangerous area such as the wilderness, that could mean your death.

Or,

When you X out, your account stays logged in until either you have died, or you have killed your opponent.

When you try to log in again after you X out, it may say your account is logged in. So you have to wait until either you die, or you kill the monster.

So if you are wearing a blue partyhat while killing umm Jad, and you accidentally X out, there goes 450m, unless you are carrying less than 4 items (Including the p hat)

So, never X out while you have rares, and while you are fighting something.

This is not an easy way to survive, genius.

It's a low risk mini game, meaning if you die in this mini game you don't lose your items.

Might want to rethink the genius part?

Lol how could I forget.

Ok, when you're training on some monster you could easily die from. Steel dragons.

Well,I just need to make sure either you log out in a fight or after the fight when you X the browser.

We could cheat death~!
