The 'Anti-Idol' Trend

Featured Replies

DO NOT NAME ANY BAD IDEALS IN YOUR RESPONCE*

Is it just me or are the newer generation of Runescaper's (as a generalisation) losing moral value and logic in who becomes a famed idol?

I mean back in the day certain people were idolised as the first to achieve ---- or for being a good staker or pker or fansite crew member.

Meanwhile bug-abusers, scammers etc were seen as scum and universally ignored.

These days I seem to see more and more threads and people knocking the old idols as idiots and noobs. Where as people who abuse bugs, some more dramatically than others or scam seem to become idols to the new players.

The number of brags I've heard of my friend lured some idiot to xxxx and got so rich. My mate owns he players 15 hours a day and sells coloured beads to free n00bs for 200k each.

What do you guys think?

Are people generally less morally guided?

Is the idea of hard work and accomplishment no longer desirable next to fast gains at any cost of rules and having a real life?

Or is my view just being skewed by being at the high end of the lvl range now?

I think theres just so much less to achieve, which means less to idolise. No more '1'st to', as everything has been done pretty much. people are being pushed to idolise the wrong things because theres nothing else.

Big thanks to Stevepole for the signature!^

well the community has gotten younger so its to be expected. Younger people don't understand the whole concept and just look at the first rich person they see as an "idol".

A certain part of the community has always "idolized" cheaters. Jesus look at how many people thought Edit: No naming names~Q.V. Tip Mod was god's gift to the wilderness....the guy did nothing but cheat every second of his logged in life.

these days alot of kids think rebellious things are cool and therefore think people who cheat/bend the rules/abuse the system etc is something to idolize rather than the people who do it the right way. I personally think its stupid how these cheaters are worshiped instead of the people who work hard.

We can breath in space, they just don't want us to escape

Part of the fact is that these new players weren't here when the old "idols" were achieving the great feats and all they have to look up to is scammers and cheaters. Add on the fact that many of the new players are very young and can't see why buying gold or abusing a bug is so bad.

Somehow, people seem to love ideolizing the wrong people.

Add on to that that getting into 'the news' doing something bad seems to be much easier than achieving the same amount of fame the long, but honest, road.

Blame age...

I've seen some not so childish people idolize false idols...

I blame stupidty.

Well the community is not as close as it was back then. More people play now and its hard to really keep track of who does what first.

prospektssigza4.jpg

the funny thing is is that most of these people who idolize cheaters are the ones going around cursing for no reason, getting black marks and calling everyone a noob. of course, now that i think about it, they are trying to become like their idols. they're the ones that say zezima is way better than you, then when someone talks about zezima, they say he's a noob. they're just rude, ignorant people. they either, idolized the cheaters and became like them, or idolized the cheaters because they were like them. either way, the runescape community is worsening, i think we can all agree on that.

I only can think of two times that cheaters and scum have been idolized.

No Naming names Q.V. Tip Mod gp for real money dude and No Naming Names the bug abusing dude.

Both are gone, but seem to not be forgotten like they should be.

He just successfully trolled you with "courtesy" and managed to get a reaction out of you. Lol

Like stated, things have been "completed". There are no more first one to this or first one to that, unless a brand new skill comes out. People then have no where to go, and then start to idolize what becomes popular or famous to be a better word. Some of the big names, more and more forget about them, they remember what is in the present that they can remember in their grasp.

A reflection is just a distorted reality held by glass and your mind.

I Also blame stupidity, stupid children no longer understand that stealing something from somone isn't the same as earning it, in fact they assume earning it is a waste of time when they were able to steal it quickly and easily, stupidity and greed are to blame. Mostly stupidity. I swear your average 8-12 year old is an absolute cretin (stupider than ants[actually thats unfair as it implies that ants are nearly as stupid as these people which isn't true, ants are a lot smarter]).

Rule: Naming people or their characters in a negative light is not permitted. That person is not able to defend themselves or their actions and what seems like an inappropriate action, which can often be a simple misunderstanding, can lead to a negative reaction against that person.

queenvalerie.png

i definately see where you are going with this, and i agree. people feel the need to idolize a rebel because its something bad that they wont do themselves. a runescape "badass" if you will

while in other terms, people just create lies about the top ranking characters making up whatever comes into their mind like Zezima is a 40 year old woman #-o

Ralvn.png

(If this is about that Durial thread I was joking ..)

You're right, but that's the only way a game can go when there are this many players.

PLEASE do NOT be mistaken. Jagex does not exist to make a good game for you. They exist to

make money, so they only put enough work into the game to keep you paying. When there

are a million registered members, scammers and etc. are popping up every day. I've said on a

few other threads, go to ANY yew tree on ANY f2p world, and there are a dozen woodcutter bots

around it. Dragon bones have halved in price since the introduction of the green dragon bot.

It seems like people only want to skip to the end of the game without doing any of the middle.

These are the same kind of people who buy a brand new video game, then use cheat codes

or a strategy guide the very first time playing it. They don't care about the challenge of the game,

or testing themselves to see if they can do it alone, they just want to go right to being all-powerful.

I think this is an attitude seen not only in the new generation of RuneScapers, but in the

entire younger generation of America. Sad. :(

My greatest ambition is to kill every member of the human race.

crackersapparentlyiu8.png

However I am a realist and therefore know that I probably wont be able to.

idiotacyoa5.png

This is like all the people idolising gangsters irl, pretty stupid tbh.

Doomy edit: I like sheep

It's the new thrend among kids to be rebellious. Kids want to be the 'badass' guy in school and everywhere else they go...

So I blame stupidity as well. :D

"The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."

siggy3s.jpg

Most people are stupid, what's so special about idolizing people who break rules, abuse bugs, or swear to their hearts consent? Nothing. What's so special about idolizing someone who plays the game for a fair amount of their life? Nothing as far as I can see.

The only people who deserve to be an idol are the ones who deserve it. People who help others, are a leader for us, and all that good stuff. None of this 'time spent or rebel' crap.

People in RS idolize cheaters for the same reasons that a lot of people in ghettos think it's acceptable and even admirable behavior to lie, steal, and cheat on their wives. Imo, it's the same mentality that spawned the popular "organized crime" scene in the 20s. People get a rush from being dishonest and they think honest people are suckers. They think "why the hell should I work several years for something when I can get it in an hour by stealing?" Blame the media for advocating such behaviors through popular immoral celebrities like 50 Cent, 3-6 Mafia, and other "gangstah rappers."

It also has to do with morals and maturity, both of which are lacked by 85% of RS. You would not believe how repulsive the Rants forum has become... There are more idiotic, immature spammers than ever and it also seems the Forum Mods have realized they are fighting a losing battle and given up, for the most part.

Low lifes were always idolised, like most of bdk (not naming names just clan name).

I could name at least 30 people who were pure scum in classic and were famous and popular.

what i hate is people making characters in name of the Ring leader of last years 6/6/6 attack. they think hes so cool for killing people, abusing the biggest bug and stealing my god damn wealth with a flick of the ice. if i had the choice, i'd slap every player who made an account in reconision of *cough*(Name beginning with 'D')*cough* with a large trout. <.<

Popoto.~<3

i do not idolize anybody in the first place so i do not care. but people have poor moral because they think oh they are on the web so it is ok to be an(insert the other word for donkey). i think idolizing players is a pointless. i play runescape as a time killer, and i dont see why people idolize people who generally have no life and spend all their time playing computer games. i play maybe 1-2 hours a day max.. sometimes i dont play at all.. idolizing runescapers can give people a false sense.. of well.. whats the word... hope or determination. but whatever

Never take life too seriously, nobody gets out alive.

Durial is the name of a boss in diablo 2 a game played by 200 million people or so, most of the people using that name prolyl have no idea about that boring glitch.
