did i get scammed out of my account??

Featured Replies

i was farming in catherby when i was suddedly pmed by someone saying to go to jagex-pm.com. they said they finished reviewing my account. i went on the site and it look very much like a runescape website (i.e. the never enter your account on any other site except runescape.com and the links to recover you password if you lost it) and i entered my pin and everything they asked. i was so excited about it i just didnt think.

so did i get scammed??

sadly i think you did. jagex would never pm anyone in runescape.

Yes.

In Soviet Russia, glass eats OTers.

Alansson Alansson, woo woo woo!

Pink owns yes, just like you!

GOOOOOOOOOO ALAN! WOO!

YES

Immediately change your pass and pin if you still can. Also change your recoveries (most important point, b/c the questions they ask are common recoveries). Report the website to Jagex. Remove that website from your post (against tip.it rules). Best of luck in getting your account back.

EDIT: The site used the old rs login, and if you entered random things (i.e. username "cheese") it would log in as "cheese."

IE7? Shame on you!

On topic: don't feel bad, you probably just got caught up in the excitement of being a mod and stopped paying attention. Nobody here will make fun of you for it, even if it seems that way.

Change pass, recovery questions and everything immediatly. I cannot stress this enough, if you aren't sure about something, POST IT ON THESE FORUMS! Just hope that your account is urs

Thanks Lil_Atza for the sig!

i personally don't have sympathy for you, as that is the main thing you're told not to do...

change all listed info as quickly as you can, and run a virus check. also, if you're pmed by a 'jagex worker/staff member', make sure they have a gold crown. they might pm you if you're chosen as a mod, but they will never direct you to another site, just to the message center.

Common sense is a crime these days.

Run Norton Antivirus if you have it or get some keylogger scanner, just in case.

Still alive, still alive.

wow.....that is an extremely good scam, the website looks almost exactly like a runescape site, im sure you were not the first or the last im afraid. But as everyone else said if they havnt changed your pin and pass and such do it as quick as possible and try some options on the recover lost password section, hopefully they can help you :?

edit: i ran into a similar scam like this around level 50 and they had complete control of my account and i still managed to get it back so dont think theres no chance

yea u got scammed. that looked like a really good set up scam to me. very well thought out with the website and everything. you brought up a good point by not entering any info about ur account on a website other than runescape.com

try to keep that in mind next time.

i hope u get ur account back if it got hacked already

if not, go with what everybody else is saying

It's very disconcerting to see that there's such a well done mimic of the Official Site. This shows that there are some people out there who are willing to go thru great lengths to rob people of their characters and their hard earned items. This is even worse than simple item/password scamming since a web site such as this mimic, targets all of their victims equally.

you got scammed, but you can look on that from bright side: atleast you won't do the same mistake again. Change your pass, recoveryes and pin as soon as possible
