Diagonal movements of NPCs... Good or Bad? +Added VID+

Well today, June 26, Jagex modified NPC's. The big monsters (by big i mean 2 by 2 squares or larger) now have the ability to move diagonally. What I mean by this is that instead of first moving east - west, and then north - south after they were aligned with you (like they did before the 'fix'), they now come directly to you when they're attacked or auto attack you.

 

This 'fix' has greatly affected Dagannoth Kinging.

 

Duo melee/mage, where the mage would lure prime to the east and mage rex while the meleer prays range and melees supreme, is impossible do achieve now (unless you stand on Prime and make him slowly move).Duo Melee/mage was one of the few setups which make it very hard for someone to lure prime on you. Id hate to see that jagex 'destroyed' it.

 

Although I like that now it's harder to lure Rex. A level 303 boss monster shouldn't be that easy to safespot in my opinion.

 

 

 

A similar problem with Fight Caves where monsters will just walk directly towards you...

 

 

 

Here's a vid I made that shows how the monsters move diagonally. It's just dagg kings and shows how to lure Rex now. Didn't include fight caves because i'm no expert on that and muggi will probably do that one heh :P

One small note, 20 seconds gets cut at the end dunno why :s but those last 20 seconds dont really matter lol

theres a vid of it, and yes i am quite mad about this. For the maging rex part, its not that im mad about having to walk to the other safespot, its that you attract spinnies that more you run around so now spinnies are going to be even more of a problem -.-

They obviously didnt update the engine, forgot about it and posted 4 days later. And they sure did not update the game twice today just to show off their pretty update message..

It's a good thing. They've made the monsters less stupid. They can now move more freely!

i think that it's still possible to use safespots but it should be harder to get them there, and you cant lure the monsters 1 by 1 anymore.

I think this was a good move. It was about time we got an update that difficults things for players.

 

Even though I see this as a rather desperate solution to the increasing popularity of Dks and consequent lower of the prices of their typical drops, if it works I think it becomes a positive "fix".

Of course it's good, improved AI is always good. Sorry for the people who easily stayed at DK for hours on end but it's about time something like this was done.

agree, it may also cause the prices to raise of the dk items so this is some what nice. You need to look at ever jagex as a positive. They did it for a certain reason.

This update doesn't make the game worse, it makes it more realistic and in the end more challenging. I personally think this'll mix things up enough for some new ways to do things, and support this update

Every single update they did today i had no problem with, up until i went to black dragons in zanaris. there is a black dragon that is probebly 8 squares away, not knowing about this diagonal movement, i attacked and went afk, assumuing the dragon would go to the safespot like it always does. i come back to find myself at about 20 hp. thank god i had an anti-fire shield. anyway, i either have to use the safespot i hate, or attack another dragon. its not a big deal, but the fact that i didnt find out about diagonal dragons until the point in which i was about dead pissed me off.

 

 

 

i went dking yesterday with some friends for my first time ever. I loved it so much. it was a lot of fun. looks like i wont be going again unless we go with the 15 person group we had yesterday.

um yea if anyone wants to make money go to the black dragons at taverly dungeon just picked up full rune, dragon hally :P the old safespot doesnt work i guess.

yes finally.people have to actually find ways of killing boss monsters properly without exploiting a tech glitch,restriction,or ai.

 

 

 

 

 

personally this is an absolutley great update longterm.whole strategies may have to change although many people on the rs rants board are complaining about this(basically because theyre lazy)
