I think the cop was in the right. In my experience, most skateboarders are disrespectful and what not. The guy tried running which is against the law, he arrested him. The others tried resisting so he had to get them under control, it's against the law and they gotta treat it like any other law breaking activity.

On a lighter note, im surprised that cop was able to catch them :-w

Skateboarding shouldn't be against the law in the first place anyway. Hope the pillock goes down for grabbing someone by the neck...I'm sure there's just as many laws against that as there is riding a skateboard >.

Saw this on digg earlier

I totally disagree... that fat [cabbage] cop had absolutely no right to do that... probably got hired onto the force like a week before hand and felt all powerful in his cop suit.. so he picked some kids to beat up on. And it was on go skateboarding day....

I agree with the comment about the size of the cop though..

I don't think it's against the law, and we don't know what they did to get arrested in the first place, but i think its just if your skateboarding in a private property like a school, because t hey usually do stuff like wax the stairs to do their grinds and what not which makes the stairs slippery. Or going down the sidewalk on them which causes a risk to people walking, either way if it is against the law don't do it :anxious:

Edit to person above me: I don't think that just because they are kids they should be treated any differently than anyone else breaking the law. And if i'm correct, the go skateboarding day was a day made by skateboarders so they still don't have legal permission to do it

o..k....

so if they made going to the toilet or watching telly or eating meat illegal.. you'd stop doing all that? The law aint always right...

Im sure the policeman broke way more laws than the kids in that video.

Thank god theres skate board parks around here. You can't take away what kids like to do and expect them to just sit around doing nothing especially these days. At least with skate parks it gives them a place to do what they like and keeps them away from public areas, where honestly skateboarding doesn't need to take place.

Boo hoo I cant skate in a public footpath and when I run away from the police for doing "nothing" they arrest me. *writes a poem*

We arnt getting the whole story here, maybe the police did make a mistake. I'm willing to be that its just some whining kids moaning about the cops when they got caught doing bad.

After watching the video, i found this video on youtube. This guy hits it dead on. The most that should of happened was a ticket, and if they did resist arrest, more cops should of been called in or he could of used a helluva lot less force.

We should all respect the police and cower with fear when they come by. If we don't they have every right to beat us into our rightful place of frightened cowardice.

That cop better watch it. He's going to get ganged by a bunch of skateboarders one day.

I really wouldn't call it an era. It was more of a definitive time period during which dinstinctive characteristics were expressed in similar ways.

There's two verisons of this, either the kids were really just stakebording and the cop was being and [wagon] or the kids did something to cause this. So I can't say my opinion until I know what happened before.

This cop has some serious issues. Personally, I believe that if this had been in L.A. and not Arkansas, it would be all over the national news. Things in the South don't get the coverage like things on the West or East Coast do.

The one guy did do the wrong thing by running; they all should have gone down (gotten arrested) without putting up so much of a fight; and they shouldn't have been yelling at the cop when he was arresting them. By yelling, it only pisses the cop off more than he already is, and it creates more reason to charge them with disorderly conduct.

In conclusion, did they do anything wrong in the first place? No. Did they make stupid mistakes after that by running, misisting, and yelling? Yes.

^^ you have a point yeah.

In all fairness, the cop provoked them a lot and he's mistreating his power by doing so. Police in our country - and im sure they do in america too - are taught to keep their cool and handle situations, hostile or not, calmly and efficiently, often with no restraint or weapons needed - they're also taught where to hit first and last resort with their batons and use the minimum force to arrest someone - not make things worse by getting mad and lashing out knowing they can't do anything back.

He is crooked. Maybe they were in the wrong lawfully, but the way the cop reacted is bang out of order.

We can't really say the didn't provoke him because we only saw from the part where he caught them, and i think they deserved it. Broke the law, harassed the cop, ran, resisted, they could do with a night in the slammer.

cops are supposed to take that stuff, ever seen the COPS show? people yelling straight at there face ect.. they are supposed to stay calm and try to manage the situation without it getting over-physical, as soon as he put those two kids in a head lock he was violating that, i didn't even hear him yell at the kid to stop. and cops are also supposed to give warnings unless their life is as stake...

its just like if a cop has a gun drawn he has to warn the suspect and tell them to obey and if they don't force will be used. Unless of course the suspect whips out a knife/gun and starts threatening the cop can he immediately defend himself. In this case the kids were just yelling and provoking not directing violence towards the cop. The cop however took it to extreme and used unnecessary force without much provocation.

You mean when he put them in a headlock AFTER they ran and resisted arrest? :-k

i edited my last post.

he did not give warning, the girl wasn't even running she was walking away. The cop grabbed her around the neck and and with alot of force practically forcing her back. Then the guy calmly walks towards and tries to reason with the cop and he proceeds to do the same with him, again with any provocation or warning. Even in the beginning of the video a cop has no right to have his hand around your neck, and be right on top of you. The cops actions were over dramatic for the satiation.

Didn't have sound on the video, my guess is that the kids were acting unsocially in public and were bad mouthing the police officer, my guess is that he did his job which was to protect the public place from damage and prevent trouble and intimidation for ordinary pedestrians.

Instead of moving away from the scene other skateboarders just gathered up around the police officer, he was out numbered and probably felt intimidated, he did his duty in restraining the youths, if they cooperated with him he would not have to use physical action against them.

Edit: And also it's disgraceful how they put up the officers personal details on their website, I bet some of the youths will cause trouble to him just for doing his job.

A friend to all is a friend to none.

First off, they should not have ever even been arrested. A ticket, MAYBE. A warning would have been sufficient. The kid shouldn't have ran, no. But in all honesty, I'd be a little scared too. That officer was, what, 3 times his weight? It's quite sad that police officers get a bad rep because of jerks like this guy. Yes, they did resist arrest when he ran, and that would warrant an arrest, but NOT a headlock. Then he puts the teenage girl into a headlock. It's truly sad.

Edit: Str0wez, there is sound, it's quiet so you may have to turn your speakers up.

They were harassing him and being mouthy and struggling with him. They broke the law and got what they deserved, their parents probably never spanked them so this should be a good wake up call. I'm sure if this was the exact actions except a thief or adult no one would complain, but since it was a mouthy kid everyone makes a big deal about it :wall:

I'm sorry, mind pointing out where they were being mouthy?
