I was getting ready to go to Adventure Land (a smaller amusement park here in Iowa) with my gf and my dad kept telling me not to get on the ride that is like the one in the story. Of course I rode it with my gf and her family ~10 times because I don't see the point in being scared after one incident.. It's a shame what happened to the girl but that doesn't justify being scared of the ride in my mind. i agree; its the stupid american mentality that if something bad happens, everything related to it is likely to be as dangerous. its as likely as any other freak accident happening
June 29, 200719 yr It's not as tragic as it sounds, really. I mean, she gets to sue them for several million dollars now, so she's good to go! And if her feet were reattatched, hopefully she'll be good as new. There are a lot worse thing to lose than your feet, afterall. I'd rather lose both feet than one hand. :shock: :evil: If she's lucky she might end up with a very small payment in return for her suffering. Due to the poor health care in the US, the money she receives might not even cover the hospital bills. Hopefully she's well insured. There's a chance she will be disabled for the rest of her life. Even if they manage to reattach her feet she might have recurring pain or problems which will prevent her from doing many activities that we all take for granted. This is a really tragic event. I hope she'll be able to walk again... :( You do realize that you don't have to sue for a static amount? And suing somebody will cost a lot of money and effort which may be fruitless if they can't afford a good lawyer or if the government (or theme park) decides not to pay her. I really do hope you're right.
June 30, 200719 yr I read about this the other day. From what I read, the girl is a pretty upbeat girl and is taking this whole thing pretty well. Her neighbor said that she is already talking about writing a book on the whole experience. Not sure if the book will be good or anything but at least it shows that she's not burying herself in grief and sorrow or anything. Also, she may not get much money but one would think that she could at least get enough money to pay for medical bills and other fees resulting from the accident.

She could sue for medical bills (they'll be paid anyways, so who cares?), lost future wages, therapy (physical and mental), prosthetics...Really, that all goes with medical, I guess, but still. If she can never walk again, they'll have to pay her so she can support herself for their mistake. People in wheelchairs get along fine, as compared to, say, people whose arms or maybe heads are blown off. :| She may be able to win a lawsuit or not, I dunno. On a different note, I always knew there was something I didn't like about that ride. :-w

Around the same price as the coffee case. The point is, civil suits can vary. It sickens me when people look at such a horrible event and immediately start thinking of the money the victim will make off it. :( EDIT: Also, I'd like to point out that the "spilled coffee" incident was much worse than it's been made out to be. They shot him because they thought he was a prison escapee and that he was pulling a gun on them...Rather justified, if you ask me. It's not that her losing her feet isn't horrible; it is. But all I said was that losing your feet wasn't the most horrible thing in the world these days (you can get prosthetics and be COMPLETELY normal considering the circumstances) and that she'd be able to sue the park for a ton of money. I really do hope you're right. TBH, lawyers are probably fighting over her. Suing a franchise? Especially since it's basically their fault and she wasn't doing anything dangerous (it appears), it'll probably be really easy to get a large settlement.
