1 day... tomorrow is my 1 year aniversary of being muted

picture7eo0.png

I've never been muted, but this is a great guide.

However, there are some situations you might want to cover:

1. Communicating off-game (AIM, MSN) is useful, but giving out such contact information is against rules.

2. You can use another account, but your friends might have private chat set to friends, and not know that the account is yours.

3. A random person might PM you, but you won't be able to respond.

4. If you want a certain price of an item, you can temporarily put up the amount in GP and remove it. For example, if you're selling a whip and want 1.5m, you can put up 1.5m GP and remove it, hoping that the person will be smart enough to realize that you want 1.5m.

Another interesting idea is to develop some communication language that requires only simple methods, such as Morse code. Maybe you can communicate by flashing the privacy settings, or use emotes (example: nod = dash, wave = dot).

I actually have covered just about all that you suggested, but I added some additional information which you brought to mind.

Thanks, although I don't really support your comment about deserving it. You really need to know the persons case before saying they deserve being muted.

god must be a builder. his original quote said six days, he didnt finish on time, he buggered off, didnt make a good job of it in the first place, and he still hasnt finished.

I am open to give advice via the inbox message system we have here, regarding mutes. :)

picture7eo0.png

After reading this, I think that mutes may inflict unnecessary torment on players. Sure, it prevents the player from using offensive language, but it also subjects the player to abuse, such as losing friends and macroing accusations.

On November 14, 2001, Jagex temporarily changed the chat filter so that only certain words in a dictionary may be used (Disney's Virtual Magic Kingdom uses this system). This update proved to be bad, but I think it would be fitting that "muted" players should be able to use limited words than no words at all.

Oh, and I came upon a muted player today. She kept wanting to trade me, and I finally accepted. I realized that she wanted me to help her fletch a yew short bow. :) Unfortunately, not everyone is smart enough to realize something like this. :(

Oh, and two more ideas:

1. You're not allowed to post for other users on the official forum, but you can still have your friends act as an agent. Your friend will post the sale, and when someone PMs them, (s)he will direct the person to you.

2. Your friends might get annoyed if you keep asking them to sell things for you, but they might be more willing to do so if you give them a small amount of the profit as commission.

Thank you very much. I will add those points.

I also completely agree with what you said. A limited word bank for muted players would be the best thing in the world. Just numbers would be nice.

Im actually very interested to know... how many people out there are on the verge of being muted?

picture7eo0.png

i my self have been perm muted to for lets see here now..... goes to appeal an offence or ban link on runescape.com..... *5 min later* well my offence date was aug 26th 2006 but i clearly remember not getting muted till about a month later!!!!! so we will just use july 1st as start dat that makes me muted fo.....1 year, 4 months now!!!!!! shocking and i still play that acct almost normaly... i to get accused of autoing and stuff and have lost a lot of my freinds cause they keep privet on freinds.... and they dont know i use fansites forums so i had no way to conact them... there is a couple but not enough. there is a 4th option though!!!!!

i made a seconds account AND made it members that way i can log into member worlds and post on forums (good for chewin complainers out.... i dont like grim hood but im not complaining cause its free.... with this i can switch between accts fast no ads on both accts and i can post on forums for those that have privet on freinds. its not to much of a bother for me though its only $5 more a month and it works... mabey 5 min more out of my time but i cant go between free and member worlds as quick with home computer as a library compiuter... home computer takes so long i will achieve world peace before i get into free world from a member area one.... so this way is much much quicker and easyer....

i also like to suck up to jagex by emailing them macro sites, gold farming sites... other bad sites ect... its nice to get a cheery email back with a nice big thank you.... i hope one day they might consider un muting me.... you never know and even if i dont im still doing them a favor.... trying to make the game a better place.

i hate it when peaple think im doing ematoes for fun... i use yes and no emote more than i click on the runescape map on some days lol... they need to make some form of communication like stick a giant "m" abouve my head like the wildy skull or somthing..... just somthing to show im muted!!!!! mabey add the word muted to the end of my user i know they can think of somthing!!!!!!!

dj_phox.png

cant you talk to people if your muted, by using a POH hang man game? i just thought of that, idk if it works.

Silvermist82.png

i was on the edge of a 3 day mute last week :(

but this time it was jagex fault and they corrected it

i really like this guide, helps me out alot since i just got perm muted =[

i think you should put in the "good parts of being a mute" which are:

1.you cannot really get in any more trouble for offencive language, password scamming or most of the other rules because no-one can hear you!

2. it gives you alot of patience, since people will be asking you "are you muted" many, many times.

3.makes you understand that the conversatonal part of runescape is taken for granted alot.

i really hope this helps other mutes out!

and btw, if you don't agree with my 3 statments, please don't flame me.

Thanks, it's very reassuring when you know there are others out there who have been muted even longer.

I too try sucking-up to Jagex... Doesnt seem to work well though :P .

Maybe though, one day, we will get a break. :D

I added a new section on the Grand Exchange, and how to use it.

This is soooo helpful for muted people. No more miscommunication (or lack there of) with traders in crowded trade worlds!

As we all know there has been a huge roll back on the forums... so some info and posts have obviously been lost here...

Anyway, I am going to work on adding a section about quick chat, and it's availability to muted people... actually, quick chat defeats the purpose of all of the info I wrote in the original guide... but it will stay there for reference.
