reset? i don't think so.

i don't know if anyone has said this before so sorry if i may be copying your topic :ohnoes:

i read a post which asked if you would play if Jagex were to reset the game. when i thought about it i had mixed views about it. i wanted them to reset it so that everyone can have an equal chance of getting in the top highscores. but newere players still wouldn't have the experience that the older ones do, so it would be harder for them to level up. there are also those people who can get their levels up so fast because they play non stop.

so i think they should never reset the game, what are your views?

I wouldn't mind, it would be intresting having a couple servers set apart for something like this. ::'

It wouldn't be fair to all the people who played for years and got their levels up. "Hey you know that project you have been working on for fun for 3 years? Yeah well it got lost in a fire this morning." How would you feel? Even if it was for fun, thats 3 years of work, gone.

I'd love it if they reseted the game. Everyone would be at lumby, fighting over cows, and there would be more opportunities for socialization then if everyone is at the same spot :o There's would be no more rares, and no more money craze for them :) Everyone could raise their main with pure stats thing which they didn't know how to do when they were newbie. All the overly rich people would dissapear, Jagex wouldn't need to do "high level" updates for a while  , the people who quit would stop taking space in highscores, and the overall joy of starting all over and fresh again..

Jagex is never going to do that, and endanger their company, I'm praying for their servers to have hard disk failuire

I think this idea is stupid. Imagine the number of people with 70+ skills who leave for WoW, where this kind of thing would never happen.

However, now that RS has become a recognised online adventure game in its own right, this really is the time to start thinking about an RS3. Only this time, experience in skills doens't get carried over. That way, yes, everyone starts at the same level, and those who start later aren't majorly disadvantaged. Is the fact Zezima's got over 1,000,000,000 exp a testament to how well he plays the game, or how merely how long ago it was since he joined? I would hope in all games, it's the former.

Runescape 3 would be perfect right now for several reasons. One of them is that Runescape is now a well known MMO, if you are a MMO gamer chances are you have at least heard of Runescape.

Two, membership is balancing out now. For every member that leaves someone replaces him or her, if there is profit its not increasing by much every month. A new game will attract over half, if not two thirds, of the Runescapians who quit. Also people who were kind of "eh" before will now take the risk and try it out.

Three, for the first several months discoveries will be made every day. What this would mean is that the demands for higher level content won't be around for quite some time.

Four, it will even the playing field. I'm sure its quite discouraging seeing the top person in a skill with hundreds of millions of xp, and knowing you have no real chance of catching up.

There are also cons, but I'll let someone else discuss the pros/cons in depth.

Well, first off, Jagex would never reset the game. There are simply too many people who would quit and stop giving Jagex their $5 a month. Jagex is much too business-minded for this, and the players who have all-99s or something close to it, who have spent years on this game, would all quit. I know I'd hate it if the game were reset.

However, the other possibility is Jagex releasing RS3. This, while not a distinct possibility IMO, would perhaps offer a chance for the same type of thing without so many players quitting. And, those who have spent years would still (possibly) be able to play RS2, as they had with Classic for a while. I'd be amenable to RS3, if only for a chance to try out a new type of gameplay. After all, I could still come back to RS2 if I didn't like 3! It would, however, balance the economy. There would be no more rares (Jagex has decided they should never be tradeable again), so there would be no huge transfers of millions of GP between players. Although there would not be so much oppurtunity to show off, it could bring the focus more to levels than money (which should have been the case in the first place). Money is something that anyone can get, although it is easier for higher levels. Like someone I don't know once said:

It's interesting how we base our values not on skill, but on single items a trained monkey could buy.

And the reset of the game would not balance the highscores for long. To quote the original post:

there are also those people who can get their levels up so fast because they play non stop.

So this newfound "game balance" wouldn't last long. Even if Zezima and ten or so of the other all-99s crowd quit, there would still be people who knew how to train better than any. So, I guess I wouldn't like them resetting the game, or putting out RS3.

what I would like to see is some kind of "competition" servers..

Servers which consist with a 2-3 year period, and then check who has the best levels.. And then another period, but every character is been reset..

This would be really good to have and you would have a real goal to achieve! However I think before this can happen runescape needs to be "reformed" a bit. (the slower skills like slayer + runecrafting need a bit too be sped up.. levels should be achieved a bit faster on overal..)

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

I would never reset the game. I would develope runescape 3 (not on java) and make something much better.

Same type of transition as classic to rs2

Resetting the game would be the current-time equivalent to giving us a new beta to play in, somewhat representative of RuneScape 2. It'd just give us a chance to explore and do newer things with places. I know one thing for certain - it'd give me a break from the daily grind that I do nowadays with fishing. :(

I say NO. all those new players would have an equal chance, but the older players who have spent years of time getting the skills they have would be very upset if it all disappeared in one fell swoop. and not to name names, but what do you think the people with all 99s would have to say about this. Personally, i would quit were this to happen

I fully agree with this. However, I'm going to have to set you right on one point. All those new players would NOT have a fair chance - the game being reset doesn't mean they will get any better at raising their stats. Those of the all-99s crowd would have a distinct advantage over the newer players, based on simple skill and experience. All of the level 3s in lumbridge simply don't know how to raise ther stats. If I (or any experienced player) made a new account, it'd soon be level 50 with its own set of full rune and all of its stats raised to some degree (unless you're a pure, in which case you'd be PKing quickly). The only problem with noobs is that they don't know how to play the game and train stats fast.

Everyone with decent stats would quit. Imagine finally getting to the day you got 99 in everything! Perhaps you're the tenth person in RS history to do that! You go to sleep that night, having a strange sense of accomplishment, knowing that now, YOU, are a RS Legend. The next day, you decide to go pk. You Log In. You're stats are: 10 hp. 3 Combat. Everything else, that you worked SO hard for... Is reset. To one. Would YOU keep on playing? I wouldn't... It would make them lose too much money, Members quitting and all... Never. They wouldn't do it, and I know I would HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!! :shame:

Also, I would love a RS3, but not if my stats got reset... They kinda suck, ( ) but they took a while to get...So I'd stick with RS2 if that did happen...

The logic of people here at tip.it is just so great. The whole idea of a glitch is that it's not your fault, but hey, we'll just say it's your fault anyway.

They would cry for a week, cut themselves, commit suicide, realise that Rs is a waste and get a life, see a psychiatrist, throw a tantrum?

It can only be good for their health to stop playing Rs.

as of right now, i dont want them to reset the highscores but eventually they have to. eventually 200mil xp is not gonna be so rare.

jagex will have to reset the game, they cant get a higher xp limit because the ppl that had 200mil xp will be complaining that they coulda got it higher before. its a sad truth especially to the ppl with 200 mil xp already but its gonna happen.

if they did do it, perhaps a choice in the matter might be nice....

As they did with RSC, they will probably leave 2 out for a while. So players likely will have a choice. Also, they will probably level transfer like they did with RS2. Nobody enjoys having all their work reset, and they would reduce their member base significantly.

Hehehe. They would commit suicide then get a life? Sounds interesting. The wonders of modern medicine........ :)

Why? People have worked hard for their stats, and it almost seems unfair to remove all that work from their accounts. They did it with RSC->RS2, and it worked just fine. However, it could make RS a better game.... This is definitely a great topic for debate. I personally believe stats should be transferred.
