July 11, 200718 yr Hey guys, The Harry Potter film is coming out on the 12th of July 2007...TOMMORROW!!!!! Whoes going to see it? Im going on Friday because I havnt got anyone to go with tommorrow  J.K.Rowling said that she thinks that it is really good, and that its also the best film yet. Ive seen quite a few trailers for it, and it looks pretty good. The scene where Harry and Dudley are in the tunnel, getting attacked by the dementors looks good (lmao, dudley is a chav!) So, post your thoughts on the film, and by this time tommorrow, we will hopefully have a few posts from viewers of the film!
July 11, 200718 yr I saw it yesterday. And it was a disapointment. Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
July 11, 200718 yr I saw it last night and I actually really liked it because I thought it followed the book more closely than the other movies. A few points of criticism: [hide]- It didn't seem like there was a central plot, more like one event after another after another. Like a brief glimpse of every section in the book, but none really went into detail. I didn't mind it so much since I've actually read the book thoroughly, but because everything was just skimmed across, I can see how it would've been very confusing for someone who hadn't read the book. It's almost like the movie producers assumed that all the viewers will have read the book and understand everything that's going on, which isn't the case. I feel that they should have been more descriptive about what everything was and why it was happening. - The dementors. Maybe it's just me, but as I read the books I always imagined them to not have a real defined figure. In this movie they looked very human-like... They had heads, arms, necks, torsos, then the bottom half of their bodies just faded away into mist. I always imagined them to be more.. misty.. I guess. But maybe that's just me interpreting the book incorrectly. - Cho Chang. Why they ruined that part in the movie, I don't know. Her friend was supposed to be the one who spilled the beans about the D.A.. I was looking forward to seeing her have, "Sneak" written across her forehead. They took the easy way out by just having Cho do it. That way they wouldn't have to go into too much detail about Harry and Cho splitting up over Cedric.. so they just split up (though they weren't really together in the first place I guess  ..well officially) over the D.A. scandal. - There was hardly any mourning over Sirius's death. It's like he died, Harry was upset, then everybody forgot about it. That part was too rushed, in my opinion. Other than that, I really enjoyed it. It was humorous, enjoyable and followed the events in the book pretty darn closely.[/hide] - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
July 11, 200718 yr Going to see it tomorrow - late showing that only adults can go to so I don't have to cope with screaming kids.
July 12, 200718 yr i'm going to see it in a few hours with a friend and one of her friends that i don't know. i haven't seen any of the others, and i don't really want to see it, so i'm just going to be laughing at everything that happens to annoy people. man i'm a tool. :) Cool.
July 12, 200718 yr Author i'm going to see it in a few hours with a friend and one of her friends that i don't know. i haven't seen any of the others, and i don't really want to see it, so i'm just going to be laughing at everything that happens to annoy people. man i'm a tool. :) Baron, do you mean like this guy?
July 12, 200718 yr Harry Potter and Order of the Phoenix - Still don't quite know what to think. They tried to put so much in the film, but never gave the viewer the time to let anything sink in. I pity the people who haven't read the book, because they will be in for one rollercoaster of a film. Heck, I was completely confused and I've read all of them more than once. The more they move on in the series, the more I wonder how they're going to solve the plot mess they've been making. On the plus side, there were some nice details for the fans, such as the goat in the Hog's Head. Very funny for those who remember the incident between Dumbledore's brother (the barkeep of the Hog's Head) and some goat ('inappropriate charms'). I agree with Tripsis that they just skim over key issues. One thing I was looking forward to were the Occlumency lessons between Snape (Alan Rickman, ooooh ) and Harry and the memory from Snape's childhood that makes Harry panic about his father... In the film he pulls himself together in the blink of an eye. How disappointing *in my best Snapeish voice*.
July 12, 200718 yr Went to the 13:30 showing with a couple mates. Good film overall however: A guy get hit in the (sore place) with a snowball, that should hurt. Dudley, well pretty much the wrong actor. Harry's Aunt, well she showed no intelligence towards the Dementors, hough she did in the book, and where was her Howler? Dementors, well they pretty much looked like two guys in a cloak, and no where near how they should be. Harry's and Cho's realationship, not really portrayed well. Oh and I also added in a few comments to my mate during the film. Mostly for humour. Denizen of Darkness| PSN= sworddude198
July 12, 200718 yr I'm seeing it tonight. I forget most of the things that happened in the book, so that could turn out to be a good change. Of course, it could be the opposite and make me really confused, but that's not likely. Should be good. :D Cenin pân nîd, istan pân nîd, dan nin ú-cenich, nin ú-istach.Ithil luin eria vi menel caran...Tîn dan delu.

July 13, 200718 yr Ron didn't say "Bloody Hell." Oh well, it wasn't bad. I thought they left out a few key parts, which Tripsis pointed out. 7/10 The code in my sig should say 1032 not 0132.
July 13, 200718 yr Wasn't the best, but wasn't too bad. It's not easy converting a 870 page book into a two hour movie. They did a great job on that. But they skipped a few parts that could be really important. They skipped... -The mirrors. According to J.K. Rowling, the mirrors will be very important. Although they weren't that important in the 5th book, it's going to be hard introducing them in the last book without any prior explanations. -The fact that Neville could be the one in the prophecy. It's always a possibility, and could even be the truth. It could be very important. It would be confusing, having Neville kill Voldemort instead of Harry. -Everything that Tripsis mentioned. But people that read the book wouldn't have any problems. And oh yeah, this was the funniest out of all of them so far. The first four stuck to the plot for the most part, and although there was the occasional humor once in a while, there was nothing too funny. Not the case here. July 13, 200718 yr Way better than all of the others, I loved it. :P Ghost: I am prejudice towards ignorance, so that would explain why I appear to be so.

Highlights included for me [hide]Ron calling that kid a tosspot Snape's lil examination by Umbridge, followed by him backhanding Ron across the head Dumbledore's escape with the phoenix The prophecy/Voldemort battle[/hide] I must confess to an immature fit of the giggles at a couple of times myself - namely when Mrs Weasley telling her kids to "not whip your wand out!" and when Harry described Cho Chang as "wet" - damn my immature teenage mind!

[hide]Oh yes... "He's got style!" I was cracking up... And Umbridge reminds me of my principal. Their voices sound the same, they act the same. Anyways, Snape's low, evil voice in contrast to her happy, eager (And evil) voice was hilarious. Also...The cats. :XD: And finally, my favorite part. The battle. Who doesn't like a full out battle with crazy spells and people randomly yelling in Latin?[/hide] Cenin pân nîd, istan pân nîd, dan nin ú-cenich, nin ú-istach.Ithil luin eria vi menel caran...Tîn dan delu.

(well, im leaving my house in 15 mins, it starts at 7:20pm, but around 10:00pm after all the adverts )
July 13, 200718 yr Hmm well I've read the books but be damned if I can remember what happens in the fifth book. I think i'll read the book again and probably go see it in a few months when there are only a couple of empty screenings :P anti-social *hiss*
July 14, 200718 yr Well, I hope it is OK, but When I read Tripsis's spoilers, I am kind of iffy if I will like it or not.
July 14, 200718 yr Well, I hope it is OK, but When I read Tripsis's spoilers, I am kind of iffy if I will like it or not. That's just me being nitpicky really  I hope I didn't ruin it for you. As long as you've read the book, I'm sure you'll love it. Despite my criticism, it's my favourite Harry Potter movie thusfar. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
July 14, 200718 yr Just got back from seeing it. Having read the book, I knew what was going on, but it still felt like a rushed orgy of scenes at times. I sympathize with the producers though, I mean, you're trying to make an 800-something-page book into a 130 minute movie -- a lot has to be left out. Some things of note: [hide=Zomfg Spoilers]*I think they f---ed up the Cho Chang thing. Their kiss looked to real, too expert, too like they'd done it before. The book describes it as being sloppy. "Wet," as Harry aptly puts it. *The fireworks scene was awesome. I love that look of powerlessness on the face of authority. * The battle and duel were done very well, but a bit too much time was spent on them. * I thought it funny when, at the end of the Ministry scene, after Voldemort vanishes, everyone's standing there staring, and then Fudge just goes, "He's Back!" I'm like, "*clap clap clap* Good Job! You finally got it!" Couple people in the theater looked annoyed, but a bunch laughed. *Bellatrix Lestrange was portrayed so well. What an evil, insane chick she was. [/hide] All in all, a good movie, though I still liked the fourth the best.
July 15, 200718 yr i havent read the book but i might go and see it, if the reviews i read are good. Thanks SkyFleet for the awsome siggy!
July 15, 200718 yr I liked it..and this was probably one of the funnier ones, heh. The fireworks..the way Umbridge was portrayed (An all-pink english granny outfit in a dark..err...death-y environment..heheh)..Filch and his ladders..not to mention Harry's description of Cho :P It's a shame that I was right behind some older lady and 2 little kids. I swear, they must be pee machines..or they just like to run around. And they ALL stood up and slowly left..conveniently in the middle of Dumbledore VS Voldemort..which was awesome..for the parts I saw..
July 15, 200718 yr I thought it was great. I was glad I didn't reread the book because I wasn't fixating on what was left out. Everything felt fresh and I enjoyed the "oh yeah!" moments remembering things from the book. And nobody can expect them to fit everything in - it annoys me so much when people complain about that. The cinematography I thought was really good in this one. I really loved all of the contrasting elements going on. Overall this is definitely my favorite so far, hands down.
July 15, 200718 yr I thought it was great as well. So as to protect people who haven't seen it: [hide]I thought Bellatrix Lestrange was great as well. Me being nitpicky here - wasn't it NOT the killing curse that she shot at Sirius and rather just a spell that knocked him back? Sirius' death was rushed. To build on that part, I thought the movie should have been a bit longer. 2hrs15mins is quite short for what had to be in it. I would have been satisfied with a movie close to 3 hours, even though that is quite long. I think Michael Gambon has a great feel about him but I don't think he's right for Dumbledore. I can't get over the difference between Harris' Dumbledore and Gambon's. Even in the smallest moments, you can tell A.D. cares about Harry greatly (the sorting hat in the first movie, the end, etc. etc.). In the movies 3-5, he mentions only once or twice how much he cares about Harry - probably that last talk in Dumbledore's office in #5 was the most he ever mentioned. The scene where Dumbledore flees from the Minister, Dawlish, etc. - he has a brief talk after knocking them all out with Harry and McGonagall. Another example of where cutting out that "personal" part of Dumbledore hurts his overall image, IMO. I just think that this sort of tough-guy, no crap Dumbledore won't really be right for the sixth movie where Dumbledore REALLY needs to show emotion towards Harry. I do like Gambon's portrayal of Dumbledore setting aside that part though... Dementors - I always thought they looked a bit odd in 3 and 5. Their faces were too well defined, their "mouths" too visible. A lot of negative comments but overall, I really did like it. I love having a visual portrayal of the series, even if certain parts are adjusted or shortened for time purposes.[/hide]
