Mining, it was always one of the toughest, yet simplest skills. Someone with 99 mining always gets respect.

 

Then so woodcutting, since it lies almost parallel with mining.

Life is a joke. Yeah, I don't get it either.

I have to say agility. 99 agility makes your run energy replenish incredibly fast. Also it works in f2p. If that wasn't enough, the agility cape has a great emote too. Training the skill is a pain though, i mean, who wants to run around in circles 50000 times.

To answer some of your questions:

 

 

 

Knife -> Duradel

 

You cut Duradel into a longbow

This topic is just another spinoff from 'best 99'.

 

 

 

This may be a "spinoff" to you, but I did not know that there was a thread like that, so please don't judge me before you know my thoughts..

 

 

 

Runecrafting.. I don't see how you could buy that skill, unless you're paying people to run ess for you? but you still wouldn't lose money and it would still take forever (1.4m natures to craft from my 62 rc)

 

 

 

Its buyable because most likely you will spend money on ess, unless you feel like mining it forever. I've tried to narrow it down to the skills that require very little/no money.

 

 

 

The "best" that is sooo large.

 

 

 

Best money, mining, lots of money on the way..

 

Subjectively, I would prefer agility, since I would be able to run a lot more, and that affects every aspect of the game.

 

 

 

What should I change the title to then?

 

 

 

Probably since it's a combat skill technically, he said he doesn't count combat stats.
When did Slayer become buyable?

Well i would say slayer, hands down, but since we count it as combat skill i would go to ...

 

 

 

Farming, well seems this one is buyable

 

 

 

Rcing - even with cash takes for ages. Can anyone point any other skills (except slayer) where you top out at 30k/hr experience rate?

 

 

 

being said that i will go with mining. Great skill and it's been one of the top skills for long time

1500+ total 89 cmb; 1600+ total and under 93 cmb.

02/04/07 reached all skills 60+ under lvl 90 cmb.

07/19/07 reached all skills 70+ at lvl 93 cmb.

Prayer is good for herbs

Well it depends on what criteria you are using the determine which would be the "best".

 

 

 

Are you looking at most respected?

 

Agility or Mining

 

 

 

Most resources & profit?

 

Hunter & Woodcutting

 

 

 

Easiest?

 

Thieving

You really should be more specific as "best" can be picked apart in so many different ways.

I'd say woodcutting, because the wood you gain with it is generaly used in the most skills:

 

Firemaking/Construction/Fletching/and indirectly in range

First of all, let's define buyable.

 

 

 

You can't define a non-buyable skill as a skill that requires no money to get to 99 - because ANY skill can be gotten to 99 without money, if you make all materials yourself, even construction - it would just take forever.

 

 

 

I offer and use the following definition: A buyable skill is a skill which, by investing a non-trivial amount of money, can be trained more quickly than otherwise. "Non-trivial" means money which would take a tangible amount of time to produce. For example, buying a harpoon from the fishing store is a "trivial" amount (yes, it costs 1gp, but not a serious amount), while buying a dragon axe for woodcutting is a "non-trivial" cost.

 

 

 

Reason combat not included - magic and ranged for obvious reasons, but even melee results depend on used armor - better and more expensive armor means faster training, so that's why it's kinda "buyable".

 

 

 

And since slayer speed also directly depends on quality of equipment, it does not qualify either.

 

 

 

Now for the rest...

 

 

 

Woodcutting - axes improve your cut speed, now without the axe head event there are no downsides to dragon axes, they cut a bit faster, and the cost of a dragon axe is not trivial. Thus the skill is "buyable", by the definition posted above - someone investing money WILL consistently cut a bit faster than someone who doesn't.

 

 

 

Mining - requires a rune pick for best results. Arguable whether cost is "trivial" or not - for any serious miner 15k is probably not an investment that requires any time to accomplish. And now that granite quarry is subject to desert heat, powerminers there (formerly one of best places) would need to periodically buy waterskins (not much own their own, but it does add over time).

 

 

 

Fishing - shilo village (fastest spot) requires completing some quests which need some money invested, but probably not a fair criteria to judge by, since the cost is not directly associated with training the skill, so probably a genuine non-buyable skill.

 

 

 

Agility - For significantly better results, use lots and lots and lots of EXPENSIVE running potions and EVEN MORE EXPENSIVE super running potions. Does not qualify as "non-buyable", yes you can train to 99 without any, but a person who uses them will train considerably faster.

 

 

 

Thieving - dunno why no votes, seems to me as one of the most non-buyable out there. Thieving at adrougne is cheap and quick and requires nothing, PP and BJ@Bandits needs some quests but as I said before they are not direct investments and thus probably don't qualify. Costs of blackjacks are trivial. Costs of gloves of silence are not (even though they are cheap, they are a _constant_ expenditure and thus would add up to a non-trivial amount by the time you reach 99), however, it is arguable whether a good PP runner can work just as fast as pickpocket.

 

 

 

So, I'd say that fishing is the most "non buyable", closely followed by thieving and mining. Woodcutting is a bit behind, and agility disqualified outright.

 

 

 

BTW: A devilish question - a penny saved is a penny earned, right? So, would that mean that sacrificing profit from your skill for faster training instead of keeping it and training slower would mean the skill is "buyable"? (because in essence, you are "buying" the faster exp with the money you'd otherwise make from the skill). If so, mining would be disqualified because for best results you drop the ores instead of banking and selling them. Woodcutting probably not as good spots let you bank stuff faster than you'd drop it anyways. Not sure about fishing - is going to bank faster than dropping or not?

 

 

 

P.S: I consider the whole "buyable" thing kinda sensless anyways. Some people like saying that "buying" skills is wrong and you should get all materials yourself. I think it's like calling someone who buys rune armor a noob because the "right" way is to train 99 smithing and make it yourself.

 

 

 

The multiplayer economy is there for a reason. If you can buy something to train faster, do it, there is no "pride" in not using the economy. It's like making your own clothes and growing your own plants instead of buying food and clothes from a supermarket. :/

FIshing! because without fishing you wouldn't have pken and with out pken you wouldn't have runescape and with out runecscape you would have nothing and when you have nothing your just a loser!.. so fishing is da best
