^Congratulations.

Imo, you all should plant and grow atleast 200 leppa berries if you have just started and are around Hearthome-Pastoria. And about 500-750 sitrus berries, even though they only heal 30, at that particular time your pokemon should have hp 50 - 150.

Plus, I made loads of spicy poffins with my figy berries, and got my Kricketune to almost full cool stat.

Atks:

Focus Energy; double the points next turn (0/1)

Cut; 3 pointer

Rock Smash; 2 - +2 last turn

Fury Cutter; allowed to use it 2 times in a row. (2)

PLS REED!11!

I want to replace rock smash with a cool move that does the same thing, and fury cutter for a cool move that gets +2 for first. Remember, Kricketune is a bug-type. And I am only at Snowpoint, so far.

-Focus energy first turn. (Should be first next turn)

-The move that gets 4 on first move. (Makes 8 hearts)

-Same thing or

--If last, use the move that goes +2 last.

-Cut.

Decent. I didn't lose the 1st 2nd or 3rd contests, but ffs! The last one is so hard!(Can someone tell me the prize for it?)

Also, for training purposes (Not the shop purposes, =P) What berries should I grow?

And again, for contest purposes, what berries should I grow? (Spicy, dry, sweet, bitter, sour)

And one last thing, what pokemon(s) are good at contests, and can learn combo moves? (Like quick attack, then thunder) And make sure I don't have to make their levels go so high... :XD:

It takes a while, but trust me, eventually you'll get a female one (after 12 hours of honey being on the tree the species is always set in stone

Set in stone means..?

I dont need a siggy no moar.

Set in stone means..?

I mean that after twelve hours of there being honey on the tree, the game will have selected a species of pokemon to be on the tree, but not the gender/nature/ability/level/etc. This is programmed so that you'll be allowed to turn the game off and on and try the same tree to get a different gender or level on a pokemon you want, but you won't be able to turn it off and on and try again to get an entirely different species of pokemon. If you spread honey on a tree and after twelve hours a Combee comes up, you can turn it off and on to try for a higher level or different gender, but you can't turn it on and off to try and get a Heracross on the same tree instead. Sorry if I'm not being clear enough. :s

And I'd help you with your previous questions but I know absolutely nothing about contests. From previous posts it seems that Necro's good at them, but berries and contests have never been attractive for me.

Yeah, I'll need a moment to write this all out coherently but I can tell you right now that Kricketune sucks as both a battler and a contest Pokemon. Here's a few things that you can do to 'prepare' while I write...

- Run Amity Square. Each Pokemon can find different items, but your contest success will generally come down to how many items you have. Also, get daily massages, and plant berries to buy items from the flower store.

- An added bonus of Amity Square is that you'll find the berries that are best suited for making poffins. You only need one, as a well-tended plant of those berries will give you fifteen new ones. Just make sure you get the sprayduck from the Floarama flower store to water them regularly.

- The poffin cooking... It really pays to practice. In general, moving the stylus along the edge of the pan will mean that your arm won't grow tired nearly as fast as it would if you just went nuts in the center. You'll also have a lot more control.

- Each pokemon can only take 12 poffins, and with a beneficial nature (Check the chart at the bottom of my post) 12 lvl 23+ poffins will be enough to max a stat. Just save before you start feeding. Once you have the stat maxed, go to the most northwest house in Solaceaon with the contest Pokemon in the lead. You can get it checked out, and if a contest stat is maxed you can give it a scarf that will improve that stat for contest purposes when held.

The Super Contest section of this FAQ has a great table where you can see what items score well for what category. Your only hope of winning the fashion contest is quickly ctrl+f-ing to the right category and loading on the items. That's how I won my fashion rounds. Just remember that the ranking for items is Unique items (masks, flag, tree) -> Contest rewards -> Massage items -> Amity Square items. You will ALWAYS need 20 items.

Dancing is just down to practice, and as for the moveset...

http://serebii.net/attackdex-dp/

Click the button for the contest type you want. Look for a Pokemon that can learn the following moveset:

- Attack first next turn

- +2 if attacking first

- +2 if attacking last

- Prevent the voltage from rising/lowering the voltage

Starting out first in the appeals, you should start out with the +2 if first move. If you're last the next turn, use the +2 if last, then the attack first, then the +2 if attacking first, followed by the +2 if attacking last.

When starting last, start with the +2 if attacking last, then the attacking first, then the +2 if attacking first, then the +2 if attacking last, then anything really.

When starting second or third, use the attack first, then the +2 if attacking first, then the +2 if attacking last, then the attack first, then the +2 if attacking first to finish off.

The voltage blocking move should be used whenever you feel necessary. If you're going first and multiple judges are sitting at 3 stars, take no risk and jam them up. Otherwise it's entirely up to instinct.

However, the visual round is by far the most important. That's usually where the CPU gains the lead on you, so use the FAQ I linked you to to gain the edge there. The reward for the contests is Beret, Balloon, Hat, Stage. All items are coloured or themed for their particular type. For example, the Ultra Level Cool Contest gets you a top hat while the Ultra Level Smart Contest gets you a professor hat.

Also, I just had one of the most annoying gym battles ever. It was against Lt. Surge and his lvl 24 Raichu. My last Pokemon was Charmeleon, also lvl 24. Charmeleon was paralyzed and I was out of Paralyze Heals. He had SIX Double Teams up, so he was pretty much impossible to hit. Basically it was Shockwave, attempt at Ember, Shockwave, Superpotion, and repeat again. The thing that saved me that I had brought enough Superpotions to wear down his Shockwave PPs, and his Quick Attacks weren't doing nearly as much damage. Still made me wish I'd've taken the trouble to visit the Diglett Cave.

Thanks Necro, that's really helpful! Infact, I'm going to ditch Mr Kricketune, and get myself a decent pokemon that can learn Vital Throw, Focus Energy, Rock Climb, and a basic +3 move. (Machop/Machoke) :)

Edit: No, Chansey...

Return +2 first

Frustrasion* +2 last

Sleep Talk Normal

Protect Higher points the lower the judges volt.

And btw, you get a scarf in the most eastern house in Pastoria, not Solaceon... :ohnoes:

I dont need a siggy no moar.

I'm getting really lucky with natures on Fire Red; my team is a jolly Charizard (not the best nature here, but it'll be the parent of a great bellyzard in Diamond), a bold Arbok, a timid Jolteon, a timid Mr. Mime and an adamant Primeape. All without soft resetting, except for the Charmander for the right gender. I wonder if I'll get a timid Lapras without trying too :P

Bleh. Lucky devil. Last week I spent a good hour and 20 minutes fishing for the right Remoraid - it took me over 25 Remoraids to finally get one that at least boosted Sp. Att in some way. In the end it was Modest, though, for which I was hoping to get onto my Octillery, so I suppose all's well that ends well.

By the sound of it, I take it you went and bought Fire Red? A wise choice. I'm still not big on Mr. Mime, though, lol.

And does anyone know how to get into the Veilstone City Galactic HQ? It says there's supposed to be a grunt in front of the building that drops a keycard that allows you in, but I've been there many times since first coming upon Veilston, and to my recollection there's never been anyone in front of the building. To anyone that's gotten in: how far into the game were you when you got the keycard from the grunt out front? I'm worried I've already ran into him and without thinking missed my chance. I'd much prefer not to wait until finishing the Elite Four to evolve my Misdreavus. >_>

I'm wondering this too. My misdreavus is a big part of my team, and I'd rather it evolve so it is more powerful.

I'm wondering if I should keep my gyarados in my team? It really has nothing right now except for Dragon rage, which does good against odd typed pokemon, but dosent give me much to work with.

I'm also contemplating getting pokemon coliseum or pokemon XD, since they are pretty cheap i think. Anyone know if its worth it for adding to my collection? Plus I do have emerald, but does anyone think I should try and get Firered or Leafgreen?

get firered/leafgreen and colloseum, they're great games. no idea about xd though...

luckiest nature/etc combo i got was a hitmontop with technician and natures that support special defence and attack. which gave a total of 20 or so alternates for my team... getting ready for eventually getting wifi.

admittedly, that hitmontop was obtained through an action replay cheat to find it in the wild... but still, lucky with the nature and ability.

easiest way to get a nature u want, get a pokemon with synchronize with the ability u want. then go out with that pokemon as the leader, and any pokemon u find will have that SAME nature as the synchronize pokemon.

Also, synchronize only has a 50% chance of working. And really, I wouldn't use synchronize on anything other than dittos because breeding is way better than catching when you need pokemon with 3 perfect IVs and the rest 20+.
There's also legendaries, where it helps a lot. I'd rather have a 1 in 2 chance that my Mewtwo is Timid and soft reset for some good IVs than a 1 in 25 chance...

I'm kind of stuck in the limbo between the last gym and the elite 4 that I always seem to get stuck in. Technically my team of Charizard/Arbok/Jolteon/Lapras/Mr. Mime/Primeape could take them, but without ethers I think I should train more. I kind of flaked out on it and decided to just fill my dex up to 60.

Safari Zone is just one of those things I've never been able to understand. It's as if you either have the Safari Zone touch, or you don't. There's no middle ground. I'll spend my entire time searching around, missing my chances because I don't understand the bait/mud combination, and then I'll pass it off to my brother and he'll pad our pokedex by 10 in 6 minutes.

Is there any particular strategy you use? My brother (who's a wizard at catching anyway) claims that it's just a hereditary feeling. Do you do any order for the baiting/mud flinging?

Like any form of catching, it's all down to luck in the end. Throwing rocks will increase the catch rate but will make them more likely to flee, throwing bait will decrease the chances of fleeing but also decrease the catch rate. I personally stick to rocks, as on rare Pokemon, as throwing bait usually means I'll just waste more balls before they flee. Since you can get an encounter simply by turning (which doesn't count towards the 600 steps), I rarely have trouble finding what I'm looking for.

turning works quite well, along with paying attention to the areas. there are two kinds of the rarer creatures in the safari zome, make sure what you're looking for is the more common of the two that you can find there, and even then you'll be a while. that, and unless you plan to use them/ aretrying to finish the pokedex, you can always wait, or just trade.
