So far, I'd have to say that this and the other post by Str are the most thought-out posts in this topic. First of all, Str is right - the assumption that pornography is only a male-based medium is incredibly stereotypical. "It was created for guys"? Not only is that vastly ill-informed and ludicrous, but assuming that only men are interested in pornography, for whatever reason, is downright sexist. Secondly, I'll again agree with Str on his point that women who choose careers in that field are making an active choice, and bashing that choice is demeaning. Not only have a multitude of assumptions been made already in this topic while talking about this (why are we suddenly assuming that sex-workers are stupid or otherwise of a lower intelligence?), but honestly, examine these posts and tell me that they aren't simply blind speculation. Has anyone on this topic actually experienced any type of work in this field whatsoever? I doubt it. So to automatically assume that conditions are bad, the actors are mistreated, and that it's a generally misogynistic and degrading work field is completely ignorant. You're confusing general pornography with actual abusive subgroups, such as the abuse of children in the medium. Take a look at the link that Str provided - it's one example among many others of women who've made incredible amounts of money through the business. It's important that I say that I'm not advocating the industry, I just want to clear up the mistakes that are being made on this topic. Before you post a criticism like this, it's important to research the background of what you're talking about first. Taking such a profound stance as to bash the people who choose to make careers for themselves in the pornography business requires actually researching the subject first. You make a reasonable point in your original post that the general American culture is heading down a dark path towards complete objectification of women, Raven, and on this point I agree with you. But you need to flesh out this point more clearly before putting it into a topic - it's so muddled with ill-informed and incorrect examples that the point you're trying to get across gets lost. It's sections like this that need actual research before they are brought up. You cannot simply state that people working in the pornography business "sell their morales for a cheap buck" without actually looking at statistics, and the same goes for assuming that "an insanely large amount of pornographic content is teenager porn". I'm not going to rehash what I've already said, but speculation like this makes a bold statement, and when that statement is under-researched and ultimately incorrect, it makes the rest of the post seem less reliable. Here it seems that you're trying to get at your main point, but again it's muffled by the rest of the paragraph being ridiculous and somewhat offensive. I agree with the statement that young men and women need to stop comparing themselves to pop culture icons, but when you go on to call famous actresses "drug addicted sex-a-holics", it serves to make the rest of the statement seem just as ridiculous. This needs strict examples, clearer points, and less generalization and blind speculation. This topic really has potential to serve as a serious grounds for discussing the difficulties with self-esteem in the American youth at the hands of popular culture, but it needs some serious straightening out first. We've gone from actually discussing a valid point to criticizing industries that we've had no experience with based on our own guesses and assumptions, and that's a very slippery slope. Before going to a topic, this post should have been edited, clarified, and better researched.

This is a bit strange, because the man doesn't actually disapprove of the whole joke. He's been quoted before as saying he actually finds the whole thing funny, and when Maddox published The Alphabet of Manliness a whole chapter on Chuck Norris was included, and he never got sued. I guess I can see where he's coming from, though: a respectable publisher should be able to ride this meme in a better way than by copy and pasting a bunch of jokes that were posted online; at least Maddox had enough class to write his own material.

If anything, it's certainly pretty. I don't like the pieces though - it's trivial, but whenever I have to play with strange interpretations of pieces, I can't visualize anything. I just can't get a good grip on the position when I have quarter-circles for knights and triangles for bishops. I enjoy watching it consider knight moves - it makes a very nice spiral shape. :D Overall a very interesting program, and it definitely makes me embarrassed for not living up to my username. Somehow I lost a bishop without knowing it, lol. Guess you can't post and play at the same time, eh?

Do i have a right to attack someone breaking into my house?
chessmastuh replied to mixand's topic in Off-Topic
^ This is probably the best advice so far. Unless the burglar is actually armed with a gun, something incredibly unlikely, if you wave a bat and start screaming at them they'll probably high-tail it out. Confrontation in general is something the average burglar wants to avoid; my grandfather once chased one out of the house in his underwear just by yelling and chasing the guy. If you want to play it safe, then yeah, just hide and call the police. -
Sonic the Hedgehog Speedrun To me, the most impressive speed run I've ever seen. Yeah, the Mario one was great, but the fact that this one is non-tool-assisted, that he was the first person to ever run the entirety of the first Sonic game, and that this was my absolute favorite game while I was a young'n all compound into one hell of an impressive video. I figured that this was the best place to finally share it. Took me a while to find the original (the guy who did it was named Jonathan Trillo, I believe - my brother, a hardcore Sonic fan, talked multiple times with him throughout the making of the run), but in the end, it's worth a viewing. Months of hard work went into this and as a rabid fan of Sonic I find it simply amazing.

RSOF poster types: Sadists, Wannabes, Ranters, etc.

Absolutely hilarious. Thanks for putting your time into this, it's definitely appreciated. Why'd you leave out "The Serious Poster" on this version, though? Personally, those are the most entertaining posters, no matter what forum you're on. -
Can I just post a note? It'd be best if we all used our WFC names rather than our Tip.It names - keep in mind that many games have name restrictions. For instance, Pokemon DP only gives you seven slots for letters for friend code names, and Zelda: PH only gives eight. I'm having to abbreviate names here, lol.

I've been awaiting this topic for too long. DS Name: [Gygy] Tip.It Name: [chessmastuh] Pok̮̩̉̉mon Pearl: [0731-2783-6584] Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass: [1031-9733-8555] Online at: [Weekends] I wasn't sure whether you meant my DS WiFi name or my Tip.It username, so I listed both. I should have Metroid Prime Hunters but I'm too lazy to go out and get it. :s

A World War II MMO would be excellent. Hopefully they can come to some compromise in terms of games - from what I've seen, Activision specializes in a much different genre from Blizzard. It'll be interesting to see the brainchild of the two companies.

At risk of being repetitive: Amazon? EBay? I don't know what the difference between a Les Paul controller and the standard one, but both sites listed them. Since Amazon runs independent retailers now, it'll be much easier to browse for just the guitar, without the bundle.

some past few kills
chessmastuh replied to p8ntballr123's topic in Achievements (Drops, Bank Pictures and Levels)
It's different, but what with the risk of pjers nowadays, why didn't you just do a whip no prot dm? Or were you trying your best to mimic staking? :P Nice wins, either way. -
The LEVEL 3 staker
chessmastuh replied to M6c_Magnum's topic in Achievements (Drops, Bank Pictures and Levels)
Even if you were using somewhat underhanded tactics, still, very, very impressive. If not for the technique, then the sheer fact that you would go in with 10 HP is still hilariously awesome. Very nice. I'm disappointed about not getting to see the 100k+ stakes. -
Hey umm....I'd like to make a donation!!!

farcasting is no honor, tricking is too. If you get farcasted, your going to put up prayer. Its just as worse as praying, if not worse. Its luring to dress like that. People cant tell ur a player. you farcasted in ALL of your clips, in fact, almost all of your fights were farcasts to the finish. farcasting is with RANGE too if you didn't know. So no one should use anything in the wilderness except melee with a whip and a rune set? Mage and range should just be completely banned. All we should be able to do is stand next to the other player, watch our character fight, click a pixellated shark every once and a while, and then hope for luck with specs. Off topic, but I absolutely hate the whole argument against farcasting (if you can call whining an argument). The reason why edge is so boring of late is because unless you wear a rune set with a whip and do exactly what everyone else is doing you're deemed "no honor".

Isn't Wobuffet banned from WiFi under the Ubers list? :? Won't be a problem if that's not what you're using him for but if you were planning to, beware. And yeah, Caxis pretty much covered the reason why Spiritomb is better. That's not the reason I want one, though. I wanted one because they're rare, they're Ghost (I have a soft spot for ghosts), and come on, he looks really cool.

I don't really care how you pk; farcast, tele, whatever, they're built in tactics in an online game and if you guys object to that, so be it. But if you don't like what he's doing then just say 'nice first shot at a vid, but I don't like how you pk' and move on. Honestly, it's edge dungeon pking, if you're going to open the clip you can't expect honour pking lol. And Robin, you're not exactly helping the situation out here. I understand it wasn't the reception you were expecting, but as I said before, let's try and be civilized here. Too much flaming, guys. It's just not pleasant. As to the vid, yes, I'm not really into how you pk, but nonetheless I respect that you can get kills. In terms of a video, however, it was lacking - it could have used more variety. The fact that it's an edge dungeon vid kind of condemns it in the first place, as we know the clips aren't going to vary at all. I'd say for your next one add a little spice - try moving to dragons, experiment with mb, put in more edge clips, etc.

yup cynthia has it and leads with it. i have one too lvl 1. i have 4 spiritombs lol. 2 guys and 2 girls. GIVE ME ONE But seriously, I have an odd keystone set in and my base in a convenient place but I can't get Spiritomb. Why? Because DS Wireless blows. Only one person in my area plays D/P, and they're never available, so I'm not able to do it. Sinnoh Underground would have been more fun WiFi anyway, but they just had to make it Wireless and force me to suck it up and go without a Spiritomb until I can find time to force my friend into a corner during a free period and pokemon out. Grr.

Or you could just buy the cheap stuff and wait till the other stuff is on sale? Well, there's also the fact that you'll buy much, much more than you would on a normal day because everything is cheaper. Rather than buying two games in your budget, you'll fork out more because you think you're getting a bargain on these. I generally hate pseudo-holidays that are meant to rake in more cash for companies (generally greeting card and candy ones) who are playing on our consumer guilt, and this one's just pushing it. The point where we have to have a name for the day where we're all supposed to go out and waste money is the point where I draw the line.

Oof, my mistake with Hyper Beam. In RuSa, Hyper Beam is a physical move, so Slaking dominated with it, but I guess in the DP physical/special overhaul they changed it to special. Bleh. The appeal of Hyper Beam was that it was physical... :s At least it means Porygon and his evolutions are no longer stuck with Hyper Beam paired with their awkwardly low attack stat. But yeah, I'd go with Giga Impact. I've never been lucky enough to use Counter effectively (my stint with Wobbuffet was a huge failure), but if you can pull it off Slaking is a great place to put it.

Orange Box! That, CS:S, and whatever Command & Conquer game is out now should keep you entertained for quite a while.

@Riku: Vespiquen definitely needs toxic for that lineup. A Vespiquen without toxic is heresy! In fact, I'd go ahead and drop Destiny Bond for Toxic; I mean, Destiny Bond is a good last ditch move, but on Vespiquen Toxic is nice and evil. If I were to use Vespiquen, I'd end up doing Confuse Ray - Heal Order - Attack Order - Toxic, personally, and maybe Baton Pass some Amnesia, but if you really want Defend Order that'll do. I just love the incredible frustration that results from Confuse Ray, and thus have used it on the many Umbreons and Misdreveus' that I've used over the years to great success. In terms of Slaking, that moveset just isn't putting up to his full potential. I'd go with Swagger - Slack Off - Hyper Beam - Earthquake; now there's a Slaking to beat. To start, Slack Off is just necessary. Being his signature move and healing half HP without having to fall asleep makes it an excellent move if something fights back while you're sweeping and you need a turn to stock up. Hyper beam on slacking is the complete WIN. 150 base power + STAB = 225 freakin' base power, and with a potential 419 attack stat... that'll blow many pokemon who aren't uprepared right out of the sky. Add on the fact that he skips a turn anyway and you have no excuse not to use it on him. Earthquake is just all around a fantastic physical move, with excellent base power and made even better by his monstrous attack stat. And you suggested swagger, but I agree, it's a great annoyance move and slaking can take whatever their boosted attack will dish out anyway. Now, I've used a hell of a lot of Gengar in the past, but I've never really tried Destiny Bond or Nightmare. Go ahead with Destiny Bond, as the sources I consulted said it's a good choice on Gengar, but I'd drop Nightmare. It's a good move, but the only problem with it in that setup is that it means his entire moveset depends on the opponent being asleep. With 70 accuracy, you're probably going to look at around 3 turns per battle where your opponent isn't asleep. These turns have to be spent trying to get the opponent to fall asleep, and you may get sweeped in that time, so I usually go with Shadow Ball or Psychic in that place. Mind you that I've never had any experience with Nightmare, so I'm probably wrong, lol. Go ahead and try this setup, but if you don't like it, I'd drop Nightmare for something straightforward. Thunderbolt is also a possibility? I keep it on my Mismagius and it saves my butt against all sorts of Flying types which is useful since I don't have the Ice Beam TM yet and Octillery's Aurora Beam has an embarrassing 65 base power. I don't know much about Froslass, but your setup looks good. Personally, since I'm an Ice Beam addict, I'd use it over Blizzard or at least use a Hail - Blizzard combo to bring its accuracy up (and also raise Froslass' evasion through its ability), but if you're fine with the gamble then go ahead. Dugtrio annoys me to no extent because he only learns ground/normal moves naturally (and the TMs he can learn aren't exactly varied either), so to get just a sliver of variety I would swap out either Magnitude or Fissure for Sludge Bomb/Aerial Ace/Shadow Claw. The problem with Fissure is that I'm not 100% sure that it's allowed in WiFi competitive play, so you'd be wasting a move if your plan was to bust into that. Wigglytuff is one of my least favorite pokemon so I'll leave that moveset to you. :P Aside from Slaking and Gengar (which are two of the most fantastic pokemon anyway so you have an excuse), your team is very original, and I like that. My suggestions are only tips, so mix and match as you please. Except Hyper Beam. A Slaking without Hyper Beam is no Slaking at all.

As long as we're posting trainer cards, "when in Rome", right? Used the 'cosplayer Octillery' avatar because I love my Octillery so much I can honestly see myself dressing like that one day. Flamethrower, Surf, Ice Beam, and Psychic on a water type? I'd whip out a costume for that son of a gun any day. I was inspired by my brother's move to name his team after philosophers (somehow an Aggron named 'Rousseau' just fits - don't ask me why) that I went with an American Revolutionary motif for mine. Corny, granted, but James Madison as Heracross kicks so much [wagon].

Money is the greatest way to say "I love you but I really don't care". Think what your hobbies and your interests are, people. Since we actually don't know you the best we can do is take stabs in the dark and hope you like one of them, which isn't exactly efficient. Are you into comics? Ask for a set of brushes and nibs. Like sports? Ask for gear, or tickets to a game. Obsessed with video games? Ask for a few new releases. The surest way to get a gift that you'll end up using a lot is to involve it with one of your hobbies.

The cool thing about the internet is that there's this convenient little red X in the corner of your window that makes everything go away. I know, I know, it would be nice if we could all be respectful towards each other, but the reality is that in the outside world everything is hardly so hunky-dory and the internet is always going to reflect this. The only thing you can do is learn to deal with this. The internet is not a nice, safe place, an I'd go as far as to say I'm glad that it isn't, to some extent. The only way we can have a real, interesting, and ultimately engaging experience is if we are free to love and to hate as in the real world. If you can't take this, the fantastic thing is you don't have to - log out and go outside. The extent of sensationalism played up by the media over "cyber bullying" really grinds my gears - yes, it's a rough web of communication out there, but unlike real bullying, no one's forcing you to sit and take it - whenever you feel belittled or oppressed, there's always that friendly little red X that can make it go away. Yes, words can hurt. Words can drive people to do unimaginable things out of pain. But when the only way you can receive these words is by reading text on a computer screen, when you can't see, hear, smell, touch, or even sense the sender, these words only have the effect that you choose them to have. Yes, it's sad that someone had to die over such a ridiculous thing as Myspace, but it's also sad that stories like this one are only encouraging the thought that the internet needs to be regulated, needs to be censored, or needs to be overseen. One of the beauties of the internet is that in a world full of rules and codes and ethics and responsibilities, we can come on here and be allowed to say, do, or post whatever we please without having to fear punishment from people who disagree. Another beauty is that you don't have to sit here and take anything you don't want to. We have the options to speak our minds freely and to log out whenever we begin to feel uncomfortable. And when the former is in danger and the latter is being ignored, well, to me that makes for just as sad a story as the one you provided.
