Still doing stuff 'sides pixels (with which I'm behind at the moment, sorry for all you request people)

But annyways I forgot what motivated me to do this. My first space scene! It still needs work...except I'm not good with this kinda stuff so some help would be appreciated hehe. Much thanks!

Edit:

Too purple? Blurry? Cloudy? Rings too dark? Stars need more depth?

hmm.... my major gripe about it is the stars/nebulas. For one, try having some color behind the stars, by setting them to "Screen" (i'm asuming your using ps for this) and then brushing with like a 10-15% brush behind them.

The nebulas... i think they realy take away from it right now. Like, i wouldn't invision nebulas as being colored cloud filters all around :D Probaly the best way to do them is to brush them.

this is probaly one of the best places for space recources and tutorials :D.

Also, your planet, which i'm fine with, may be a tad too dark, especialy with all the stuff suposably happening around :D

The planet is fine, but, unless my eyes are playing tricks on me, for whatever reason it looks oddly pixelated at the edge (yes, I mean actual outside edge) of the planet.

The nebulae need work. One thing is, without a proper starfeild (which I'm getting too), that already will start working against the nebula. I can't suggest much on how to fix those nebula's as they kinda just look like rendered clouds with some coloring/erasing so I suggest looking at this tutorial in particular; http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/4752786/

The starfeild; it just looks well... crappy. Most of the stars are too big/bright... and there's not enough variaiton. There's also no color in the stars.... and some stardust/star glow would also do wonders. For that, try this particular tutorial by alyn; http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/7076196/, should help A LOT.

Both of those tutorials can be found in scifisrc's gallery, I just thought I'd give you the exact links to the two I thought would be most helpful.

And Nad covered most of it :P

Yeah, it does look pixelated at the edge for me too.. Maybe that the fact there is some outer glow behind it? Oh well..

The only thing I dislike about your space scene is that the starfield just looks really crappy. But I think the experts have already covered this for you and provided the links.

Nah, outer glow shouldn't do that. It's like the poor planet was tortured with bad use of the magic want tool and got rid of all the low capacity pixels to smooth it out O.o

Okay I made some changes, I brushed the nebulas oh and hope the stars are better:

Its saved as a .jpg I'm not good at saving, would .gif do?

something's bugging me about the nebula on the right...

Nads opinion would be more useful than mine, but, the stars are getting better, and the nebulas... well to be frank, there's too much nebulae :P, it's just too busy.

GIF is way to low quality of a save for space scenes... If JPG, at least use a high/highest quality. The ideal save would be PNG.

Something is also wrong with the rings... but, wait on Nad's comment for a better C&C.

omg stop it wouldya ur good at everything lol u should try terragin see what u can do there nuther nice piece by princessa gj

its Terragen :D

Anyways, like Cal said the stars are getting better. one thing i don't realy like about it now is it seems realy busy. With all the nebulas going on (which are better, but still could use work) it seems very confusing. I would perhaps try and tone down on the nebulas. maybe take out the green one all together, and maybe even tone down the stars a tad.

The planet seems kind of weird now , the outer glow around it doesn't match its color, which it probaly should :P

The lens flare is also a tad anoying, and it kind of escapes onto the planet some, make sure its totaly behind it :D

Also, like Cal said, i would also save it as a JPG or PNG. . Also, i think you could set the rings to screen/linear dodge, not sure if you have already, but it will probaly help from them being so dense.

And work on the bottom orangish nebula some more :D it could poisbly be the main nebula, and get rid of the green one. Or even a light source for the planet and get rid of or make smaller the lens flare.

its Terragen :D

Shocker!

Nice job!

looks great. the first one ,sorry, but it was pretty bad (but your first one i know, so not bad), but the SECOND ONE??!~ Good Lord. aesome job. it doesnt look like other space scene's. it's kinda grainy, and i dono why, but it's..........awesome  the nebulas are great, and the only thing i can critique on is the background stars. darken them a bit, because if you ahve bright in the foreground, then the back-background would be darker. but you definitely fixed the stars from the first one. g'job. :D

I think this star field looks too grainy, but its good to see pixelers doing something else 8)

Nice work

Not sure that it is grainy...almost washed out or something. The colors don't pop anymore.

The first one actually would not be that bad on the nebulas if you were to blend the colors in. You have them quite distinct from each other, but in nebulas you usually see colors flowing into another...er...like we would know...all of us are going 10 percent off of the occassional national geographic pictures, and 90 percent off of star trek.

Anyway, glad you are doing more than just pixels! Don't be a slave to the shop!

Space scenes in .gif = nasty, especially if you use many colors. Makes it way too grainy and low quality. I am assuming you're using photoshop, when you save, go to file>save for web then choose JPG and maximum quality. That's all you really need to do in terms of saving the picture.

something's bugging me about the nebula on the right...

spacescene0ds.jpg

*The overall pic looks very grainy. I think maybe you made too many layers for the stars? Tone it down some, by using the contrast and brightness thing. Or you could just take out any extra layers that you may have put.

*On the rings, set the layer mode to screen or lighten. There is black between the rings which makes it look bad. This will get rid of the blackness and allow you to see the stars behind it.

*Nebula- I would recommend NEVER setting the opacity of a nebula less then 100 if you've got a bright spot on it like the bottom one. (Exceptions for this would be if you're setting duplicates of the nebula to other blending modes for effect.)

*On the planet- The outer glow shouldn't be on the black part. Make a new layer and merge the glow layer onto it so that it's a layer without the effects on it. Then you can erase the glow on the black side. The planet itself isn't too bad, but if can use some color and more texture. Also, the planet isn't very visible because of the rings. Also, on the outer rim of the planet, it's very pixely and you can see parts that go inward (looks like you erased into it or something). Try to fix that with the elliptical marquee tool and stuff.

*For the starfield, try adding some small lensflares, use different sizes and colors for them to give it a more varied look. Don't simply use the flares also, try to brush them some so they don't seem too repetitive.

That's most of it. Good luck :).
