While We're On Religious Topics...

Usually religious artwork is trying to get a point across, but comparing Osama Bin Ladin with Jesus? I don't get it... these pieces of art don't offend me as much as they confuse me.

Your opinions? I'm sure the artists weren't trying to upset anybody, but if they were, they succeeded.

I don't believe in blasphemous art, however I do believe however in crap art. The pieces in question are bad and rubbish but not blasphemous.

For heaven's sake, DO NOT upload those pictures! Last time something like that happened, we had quite a few protests around the world (assuming it is as bad as those drawings on Islamic personalities we had on the news a while back).

But you might as well fix the link, although I'm getting sick of these religion flamefests.

Life is a joke. Yeah, I don't get it either.

Here's two links to both of the art pieces ... I hope they work.

Well, those aren't too offensive to me. I don't see what the point is comparing Jesus to Bin Laden anyway. That they look alike? It so happens they're both Semites, so nothing surprising there.

Life is a joke. Yeah, I don't get it either.

Plain stupid. I mean if it was the other way around and someone was mocking Muhammed or Allah, then we'd have suicide bombers in the artists house.

The title made me want to say this:

I don't like half the threads here all being religious, quite honestly I don't care about them. I'm not dissing your topic at all, it's got nothing to do with it. I just think there's more possibilites to off-topic than religion. It should have its' own sub-forum.

Heh, one of the main things i can appreciate about religion is it's inspiration on artists (both through belief and money  ). I do not really mind all these apparent balsphemous art drawing, thats call free speech. One of the most disgusting things i have seen regarding this issue is the Salman Rushdie incedent in which many Isalmic countries issued a Fatwa on him for writing a "balsphemous" book, some offered up to 5 Million to the person who murdered him. Even when he was knighted a couple of months ago, people burn't effigies of him. It's a slippery road i think.

With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.

Nope. I think that most of the people who haven't posted did the same. Including me, until I saw your post and felt compelled to write this post to agree with it, which isn't giving a crap about the Jesus painting but rather about not giving a crap.

It doesn't bother me. I could care less if they superimposed Michael Jackson's face onto Jesus. That would be freaky though...

Sometimes (always?) there are people who voice their opinions about christianity (or any other religion) and say things that aren't true, thus giving false information. When this occurs it's necessary to explain why they're wrong or at least show another side of it. Although religion isn't always black or white, there are some things that just isn't true. Even if we won't change our minds, at least we can learn to understand other people's beliefs. Far too often we end up labeling others thinking "oh he's a christian" and then assume that person is exactly as our predefined christian person is like. Nothing strange about that, but if you only have met christians who are idiots then chances are big that you'll think all christians are idiots.

Sure, it's a never ending circle. However, by discussing religion we'll end up hearing a spectra of opinions/beliefs. And hopefully acknowledge that other people's beliefs can be as valid as you're own.

ugh,.....yes true...but on these forums while people try to voice there opinion they usually end up getting flamed and hated for believing..

and then useless arguments arise

if everyone could keep an open mind as said in some thread lost some time ago...people are only human and let what they really believe get in the way..yes it seems those of us that have been involved in a religious thread have heard both sides of the discussion or whatever you want to call it, but still..no one is or will be changing there mind soon...and hearing about the other sides beliefs still takes us in a circle...

But the problem with that logic is that this isn't about completely changing someone's belief system- it's just about helping people become well informed, understanding, and knowledgable about the topic at hand. Of course I'm never going to switch over to Hinduism any time in my life. Doesn't mean I'm not interested about what the religion has to say about how to live our one and only lives, and how they percieve the supernatural. It's not going in a circle, it's a back-and-forth conversation in which each party informs the other party of what they believe and understand, thus expanding the worldview of those they're speaking with.

Of course people may not change their mind, as in be conveted to a religion on one of these threads, or deconverted. It isn't even about that it is about understanding everyones opinions and then making an informed judgement. What you're saying is we all should stick our heads in the sand and let our brains devolve.

People do learn things through these threads, and if thats at the expense of some people therefore hating others thats their problem not mine, or anyone elses.

If that insults you then just pay NASA $20 million and hack the Space Shuttle computer to take you to Mars...Earth is not Disney Playhouse... -.-
