A player moderator didn't do their job just because they didn't report the person that was verbally abusing you.

 

 

 

That's funny. I didn't know that Player Moderators were there at your every beckon and call. Sure, they do make the game a better place by reporting what they see, but keep in mind that it's still reporting -- while theirs have priority, you can do just the same. A mute in that situation would've been perceived as an abuse of power; if not by Jagex, definitely by someone else that will whine on a forum much like this.

most people don't even know they have a report feature, let alone use it. the threat of a few who can do a tiny bit more than report would likely scare the scammers that aren't hardcore.

1. No one said they were fine with rule-breaking whatsoever. It's just that the person who was receiving the abuse could've used the Report + Ignore combination just as well, not drawing the Player Mod into the issue NOR giving them the impression that they can't do their job.

 

2. Someone who is a voice of authority amongst a crowd of whiny children honestly is a good idea. I usually do feel a bit more comfortable with Player Mods playing the game, or just talking; usually means that the people that are there start acting civil.

 

3. How do you know the Player Mod was laughing at them in particular? A common mistype would be the talking of clans, which a / is forgotten, or another side-convo was taking place. You just don't know that.

 

4. Somehow I perceive that use of power to be abusive. The moderator in question might have too, so instead of a huge proxy fight, he did nothing.

 

 

 

Thinking outside of those bullet points, think about this for a second. Why is it that someone with a Silver crown must all of a sudden hold everyone's hands with rule breakers and people that do all sorts of bad stuff that could be just as easily resolved with a Report + Ignore? What the hell happened to us where we need that sort of support? Do you remember what we did in Classic? We reported them and ignored them as we saw fit, and went about our day -- there were no Player Moderators back then to help us temporarily mute the person.

 

 

 

Strange how most players whine and fuss about updates that hold the less-than-average 'Scaper's hand, but won't hesitate to complain when a Player Mod won't do the same.

if the first thing you see in the rules is foul language, the first thing you see in the moderator FAQs on the site is that mods really only have to play the game as normal.

ingame, i'd report then, then add to ignore. no need to get worked up about someone who has nothing better to do than insult someone they've never met.

Do you remember what we did in Classic? We reported them and ignored them as we saw fit, and went about our day -- there were no Player Moderators back then to help us temporarily mute the person.

 

Yes, and i was fine without them and nothing has changed, i am still fine without them and i honestly dont see the need for them.

 

Giving player mod to some one is giving them an unfair advantage, something jagex claims to be against.

 

Not hard to trade when your the only person who every one has no way of circumventing reading your trade offers.

 

People are more likely to trade with a player moderator also, thinking its less likely to be a scam.

 

They also have abusable powers, that arnt being abused on very rare occasions, they are abused every day.

 

Why should a select few people be put upon a pedestal and the rest of us have to like it or lump it.

 

For every good player moderator i can name 3 people who would do just as good a job if not better that havnt been offered.

 

In short, player moderation is segregation and i am strongly against it.

The topic starter wants responsible Player Moderators. Well, I view Player Mods kind of like the Red Cross -- they're there in an emergency and are more than happy to help, but don't count on them to give you a bandage when you have a minor cut.

 

 

 

Honestly, the verbal abuse that this player endured could have easily been ignored. Why put the Mod on the spot by saying "he didn't do his job", when she could have just reported and ignored and been about her way?! Why the hell is it that the Player Moderator must hold someone's hand regarding something as nickel-and-dime as that?

 

 

 

Just think about that for a moment. If you had ignored the person, would you been here posting about the same "irresponsible" player moderator?

 

 

 

P.S. There is a way to circumvent Player Moderators and their chat. Set your chat filter to "Trade", and you won't see it unless one trades with you.

First that didnt require a mute. Second you could have just put her on your ignore and forgot about it. Third most likely he reported her. Fourth if she's playing doenst mean that she didnt get a blackmark. And P-Mods arent generally here to help people but to report people. Also 99.9% of P-Mods wouldnt laugh so dont say "Why have them at all" most P-Mods are responsible and help people for the hell of it.

Even if the mod did report them, they would only get blackmarks, not a ban. Your report (assuming you sent it) would have gotten the player an offence if Jagex decided that they deserved to have an offence added. If Jagex thought they didn't deserve to have an offence added, then having the mod report as well won't change the outcome.

 

 

 

And it's really hard to get perm banned for offensive language..That would take 10-30 offences. :shock:

had you read the mod FAQ, you'd know (s)he is right. mods do not have to report, just like you.

 

we do it because it's good to do, and a few mods help in other ways

i know some mods, and i hate them, i got cursed like that and even worse and they were around there, not telling the rule breaker 2 stop.
