When they announce the new "trainee mods", although i do not understand why they are called that

A.k.a , in training

 

The people who ARE chosen will not be given instant moderator privileges and set free to police the forums. Hence the word trainee :roll:

 

I can't think of any simpler way to put it....

[hide]since those saying they are admins/mods on another forum, that could be their clan forum, not sure but if I am correct, clan moderation, and administration on a clan forum are different then a FanSite Forum. A Clan forum your more emotionally connected to the users, no matter if you have 10 people, or 1000 people, you'll probably know at least 300 if it did go to 1k. In A FanSite, there is an emotional presence, but not like the one on a clan forum, it's there but it's not strong, and it only goes out to a few people if that. I don't mean to be rude, but you'll get a lot warmer on your own clans forum, then on a FanSite's forum. :-#

 

 

 

This emotional connection is what separates a clan forum, and a FanSite Forum, and that's why mods on a clan forum aren't suitable for modding on a FanSite. So by saying you know the process because your a mod on another forum, really is irrelevant for the above reasons. :uhh: [/hide]

 

 

 

We can go back and forth discussing whether they will pick the right people for the right boards

 

The more that happens the better chances someone says something, that makes an admin(s) re-think their entire idea, that could possibly result in the right mods being promoted, and the ones that would have been, wouldn't be.

The only people who know for sure are the current staff, and former staff (who can make pretty good guesses at what policy most likely is).

The emotional connection really isn't emotional, I was using emotional since I couldn't find a better word, a clan forum is closer knit together then a FanSite board, there are different little communities of users together, and yes they are strong emotional wise, but altogether, no, and they don't affect how topics would get locked, if all of them were one big community.

Oh, I think it does. If the communities emotional attachment agrees with opinion A, but not with opinion B, or C, then B, and C will be dealt with with the policies more severely, or 'locked', and 'flamed'. Yet if the community is divided amongst 5 opinions, then the least liked opinion will be dealt the worst.

That's true to some extent, yet if the user's don't know the policies, or the process, then are the user's helping anyone when they report a topic/post for whatever reason? Do they understand what the re-actions of reporting will do, and how it will affect person A, B, C, D, E..etc? If the user's know too much though, then security issues would probably arise, though I'm not getting into the negativity of knowing too much about the process when its not the user's place.

I honestly think I worded my opinion there wrong, and use words like emotion out of context, hopefully what I said above re-explains what I was getting at.

Imo saying you were a mod on another forum doesn't mean much because every forum is different, and might even hurt you because it shows you "jump" around forums, which puts doubts on your loyalty.

I wouldn't necessarily say 'doubting loyalty" to that. There are forums out there other than Runescape FanSite forums. I myself have been a mod on another couple of forums, but those were for different games, having nothing at all to do with Runescape.

Lot's of crap is written in this topic...

 

 

 

It's simple, in general if tip.it forums want to improve there is a need for fundamental changes, which actually make a difference. All the "get new mods", "mod trainee" is nice to keep users happy, but will it really help? I doubt it.
