There arn't enough Australian moderators around to get rid of posts that are posted by people who share their timezone. The threads I am talking about have been around for 2-5 hours already. :? ____
I'll raise you 4hrs to no staff at all (including crewbies, item researches, etc) visibly online for almost 7hrs. Problem isn't them being online it's: 1. Having mods in the first place 2. Those mods then doing their job when they are (I have an amusing story relating to that but wont post it publicly). The vast majority of Tip.It lives in either the UK or America. There will inevitably times where staff numbers will be lower than they are at other times. darkblade986
Something I've been thinking of mentioning to Alby is to give some of us crew the ability to moderate the popular boards (the main Runescape group predominantly) but simply be instructed that our power is not to be to make judgment calls on what topics that should be locked, but rather to lock topics that are obviously spam or ones that contain dangerous links. I know this morning (which I'm sure is what this topic is referencing), I noticed a person who made a new account and made 4 posts (all the same as far as I know) and there was nothing I could do because I didn't have any powers and the topics had already been reported. If Albosky doesn't do this, then e-mail notifications of reports should at least be activated (meaning when someone hits the report button, mods who select to receive these e-mails will be e-mailed that there's a new report). At least I think that's what that little message on the report thing mentioned (e-mail notification disabled by Admin...) I really don't expect the first option to be implemented, but perhaps the second one could be given consideration. don't worry, you are going to "hell" anyway. wanna race to see who gets there first?Officially reached 100 Combat at 1:33PM EST, June 14, 2007First Dragon Drop: Dragon Chain (Dust Devils) @ 10:48PM EST, July 14, 2008, lv113 combat
tripsis
One of the reasons for the moderator trainee program was to find more moderators who live in that timezone so they can help out with these kinds of things. jemathonical
Every night for the past couple of nights at around this time we get spammed with keylog threads. QueenValerie
We are aware of the problem with a few mods on during certain timezones and it seems the keylogger guy/gal does also since he seems to hit when there are less mods on. Hopefully with the new mod trainee program we can resolve this issue and have more coverage on that timezone. Until then continue to use the report button. :)
Satenza
Well, quite a few of your current mods seem completley inactive to moderating the forum. As in, actually have not posted on the forums for months, or do so once or twice a month. I think instead of just randomly recruiting lots of new moderators to cover these time zones you should sort these people out, inactivity makes it look like you approve of it in the team. I mean look at the local moderator team, half of them are inactive. Even one of your "Super Mods" looks inactive to moderating. Does not really set a good example to the users of the forum or to these new traniee mods. With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

Inactive moderators are given too much time before they are deactivated. Then all of a sudden there will be a spree where everybody who has been inactive for a month as well as others get removed from staff.
Albosky
I mean look at the local moderator team, half of them are inactive. Even one of your "Super Mods" looks inactive to moderating. Does not really set a good example to the users of the forum or to these new traniee mods. Like you said , it LOOKS like they are inactive. Just because you search their posts and don't get a huge result, does not make a moderator inactive. Moderators post probably 75% of their posts and topics on forums that none of you have any access to. Yes, often moderators may slip and become a bit inactive due to personal issues, time, whatever the reason, but trust me, we notice it a lot more quickly then the users do. To be quite honest , I'm growing rather tired of finding countless topics telling us that we need more moderators. Everyone makes it seem like you just pick a users name out of a hat and give them moderator status. If the community wasn't being overrun by little punks that insist on posting that garbage, we wouldn't NEED any moderators... BUT, don't forget , this is also the same community that we have to select the moderators from. How are we supposed to add more moderators from an ever growing pile of users that we can barely trust to post properly? Everything is a two way battle, think about it... It is usualy only a small minority that cause a problem, or just regular tip.iters who occaisionaly make mistakes, which everyone, even you and I are capable of occaisionaly. It is often through making mistakes and being told they have made mistakes that people learn it is a problem. It is when people do it again that you know there is a problem. Satenza
A moderator who posts 75% in a private board doesn't seem to be doing very much to actually moderate the forums, unless of course it's reasons why something has been moved to the trash or archive forum. Even if they post 75% in staff boards some of them would still be below activity levels. Don't get me wrong, they may be doing valuable work behind the scenes, but when you do not have enough moderators, those doing three quaters of their work in secret do not seem to help. I can understand perhaps the supermod has other work to do, but half the local mod team? What i infer is that when someone says they're going to be inactive for awhile you demote them to a lesser role then promote them when they come back. My experience on staff would lead me to believe that those that look like they are inactive, probably are. Of course, it might not be the case now (it would be arrogant of me to suggest I know what the current situation is), but from my experience those that are inactive took quite a while to be removed, and then all of a sudden we'd have 5+ removed in one shot. It's a tangent, but meh.

What i infer is that when someone says they're going to be inactive for awhile you demote them to a lesser role then promote them when they come back. Only a small fraction of moderator duties include locking threads, which other than regular browsing of the forums, is where their noticable postcount would come from. Like Albosky said, there are so many more things that must be done outside of locking threads (which requires a post on their behalf), which you can't even see. Removing an inappropriate thread from public view does not require a post on the public forums. So for all you know, they could be doing that every day, yet you wouldn't see a single public post out of them. One of the biggest complaints about why we need more moderators is because keylogger threads are left out in the open too long. And as I said before, removing and dealing with a post/thread that is against the rules does not require a post on the public forums, but it is still an essential (and one of the most important) aspects of being a moderator. Inactive moderators do sometimes take a little while to be dealt with, but we have so much more on our plates that it's hard to juggle everything at once. But trust me when I say that they are handled with. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
Satenza
I did say "unless of course it's reasons why something has been moved to the trash or archive forum". But I am still willing to bet the moderators not locking or posting on visible threads arn't moving them either. But I am still willing to bet the moderators not locking or posting on visible threads arn't moving them either. And that is one of the biggest forms of moderating. I'd say locking threads is one of the smaller aspects of the job. The list of things that don't require a post on public forums is much larger than the list of things that do require a post on public forums. So just because a moderator hasn't locked a thread in a while, doesn't mean they're doing nothing... that's all I'm trying to say. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
