Moderator Application Discussion Thread

---------------------------------------------------

Update as of October 24th, 2007:

---------------------------------------------------

It is imperative that applicants check for private messages. We have a number of responses sitting in our outboxes. We'll do our part and move your responses to a safe place but you need to check your Inbox or you may not ever know the result of your application when the Nov 1 Message purge hits.

Again, if you haven't received a message about your application yet, you are still in the running.

Update as of September 21, 2007:

---------------------------------------------------

We're still reviewing applications and nobody has been offered the position as of yet. No news is still good news! \'

Update as of September 04, 2007:

---------------------------------------------------

We appreciate your interest in the process and for you all taking the time to send in your application. Close to 300 applications have been submitted and are in the midst of the review process.

During at least the next two weeks, the only notices going out to applicants will be decline notices. So, "no news is good news" if you don't hear from us right away.

We'll do our best to keep you posted as we continue this process.

Thanks!

- Ard

PS. Please do NOT send messages to inquire about your application. Nagging or asking staff members to put in a good word for you will be grounds for immediate rejection of your application.

Seems like a good idea Tip.it, a one off to see who you've got out there who can offer some assistance. I like the idea. By the way I'm sure its going to be a fun time reading through the hundreds if not into the low thousands of applications, I applaud the dedication of the person(s) who do that. :P

Oh wait, how many get in?

Up to the discretion of the Admins/Mods/Staff/Super Mods 8-) , probably not good to ask either.

Or as Tripsis wrote during the writing of this. -.-

Good Luck reading all those apps, especailly tomorrow when the peak time comes on. My prayers will be with you.

Yeah, this is an awesome idea. Some wannabe mods are going to be happy come selection time.

I hope you guys aren't pushing all the reading work off on one person, they'd probably die of the strain =D

Best of luck everyone! I'm sure the recruits will do a good job and take some of the workload off TIF staffers.

I personally was a global moderator on these forums for some years and was forced to quit due lack of motivation and time. However here's few points of moderating these forums I'd like to share with those who on a stage wether to app for mod status or not.

* Tip.IT staff has been known for being nice and friendly. I personally loved the atmosphere at the mod forum and the general attitude there. Even tho people were totally different, they all managed to work together very well. It's not like they would always agree on everything, but they are mature enough to know when compromises must be done.

* There's a lot of invisible work and the amount you do it depends about yourself. The more active mod you are, the more personal messages you get. You also need to be ahead of normal posters at one thing: the bad threats can't stay there for too long. Good thing that they now got the report button and a lot of staff.

* Moderators are an example of what you all should be. When you're a moderator, you just can't show those bad days. Of course the rules are the same for everyone, but as a mod you can't go even near to the limits.

* Being a moderator is a great addon to your experience. It will teach you how to work with masses, how to lead by experience and how to judge people equally. For example many of the old or current Tip.IT moderators are currently also player moderators in rs.

My message here is that if you think you even could be cabable of being part of Tip.IT staff, go for it.

I must say, hohto, that was amazingly inspirational. Good words of wisdom to impart to the next generation of TIF mods after you. =D

Can I also stress, as a former mod, that you are still a member of a community and should generally try to not be in moderator mood 24/7 ;)

Granted you have additional duties but that does not mean you suddenly forfiet your right to post as yourself.

Desperate times indeed.

How very insightful and completely inaccurate...

This is future planning and preperation, not desperation, notice the word 'trainee' .

You of all people should know that staff often just up and leave.

Since ex-staffies are posting, I may as well put my two cents in as well. I've been a staff member here for about 5 years, and I started out as a mod.

One of the first things you will have to learn to do is your actions are noticed by everyone. Things that would have been acceptable to post as a user aren't quite as acceptable afterwards.

This doesn't mean you don't post, it just means you have to make sure that what you are going to say can't be taken the wrong way.

Being a mod is a great opportunity. You can become friends with some rather interesting people this way.

It must be WoW: it's the only possible reason why a staff-member would want to leave TIF.

I quit being a researcher because I was making an effort to quit rs 2 weeks ago... then I gave up on that effort about a week ago
