I don't get some people here...

 

 

 

The application process is not only limited to reading the application, I assume Moderators and Admins (or whoever looks at the apps) take time to look at your posting habits and much more. It's not just 5 minutes of reading the PM and then deciding whether the person is fit for the job or not.

 

We will also not get told how the exact process is, just accept the staff's word that they take their time well.

 

 

 

^^That is pretty much what is happening. Staff always reviews each candidate carefully, the only difference now is that the candidates aren't nominated, but they're applying.

What I am trying to achieve with my idea is to stop bad moderator behavior before it happens. I am aware that I can report the behavior to a staff member, but wouldn't it be great if we could actually prevent this?

 

 

 

That's what my idea is about. I believe starting now staff members need to get more personal so things like this don't happen. Moderator is supposed to be an important job right? So make the recruitment important!

 

Tip.It, imo, how they picked the mods before this recruitment drive, was a very dandy way to recruit, slow, but Tip.It isn't needing mods by masses so speed isn't really a concern? But it was probably the most effective way to recruit moderators. Now this Recruitment Drive is a way to broadly look at potential mods, for the present, or even the future. Of course mods who are immature, or do not meet the criterias will either be stopped before becoming a mod, or while being a mod. I think tip.It would review the user's post highly. And since the Tip.It Admins, aren't monkeys I think you can put your trust in them, in finding the right mods, who meet all criterias. Also this is a trainee program, so mods who do not pass the trainee programe won't become mods, and I'm sure their personalities are going to be tested.

 

 

 

You can try to prevent bad moderators yes, but only to a point, once you go past there, your taking priveleges away.

Also- there is a tool that allows you to view every user's posts he ever made. This could be a handy tool in deciding whether or not someone is fit for a moderator position.

 

The interview idea is a simple idea and should always be used when hiring, or recruiting someone. So I assume Tip.it would do some sort of interview.

 

 

 

Yes there is a tool, you click on the username, and you select find all posts. ^^ Or there may be another tool that only the admins have access to, that is more accurate in finding posts...

With all of respect, but to moderate graveyard and clan boards you need more then qualities. You need to be known. If a user named pure pker004 is a mod, everybody thinks fine let him be it. But if you got for example the DI warlord, a THE high council or something, people say eh! He has got experience, he can know it. It could be smart to bring in such people, and not trainees.

I too will be interested in what this Training program entitles. I actually think this is a pretty good idea, but it's going to take a awful lot of effort to read and research all of the hopefuls. I do hope that the post logs are taken into account as this does show a bit about the person. :)

On my application I stated the version of internet protection I have, and the model year. I stated that I had a 2005 version, which is true, but I asked my dad and he told me he bought a 2007 update. Also, the antivirus and firewall are updated evey friday, or if there is a new virus threat thats rampent on the web.

Personally I am not applying due to time shortages in real life, although I did consider it.... it's a case that I can't currently provide the commitment level needed to the team

 

 

 

This is the first thing I asked myself when I was offered a Mod position.

 

Do I have the time/commitment for this job? Being a active mod is very

 

important really consider this question as you all decide to apply.

just to respond to a few points:

 

when i was made a mod 4+years ago, i was interviewed a few times via msn. no idea if it still goes on, i can just remember it happeneing to me.

 

 

 

do not apply here if you are not going to be committed. it takes ALOT of work being a mod, and if you are not 100% interested it will soon become tedious.

 

on a personal note, i quit simply because i was not finding modding quite so fullfilling as i used to. it became too comfortable, and felt as tho i had not so much outstayed my welcome, but was not so challenging to me after all.

Whoo, this is a good idea methinks. It lets good intelligent people of Tip.it who the Admin might have overlooked have a chance to become a mod. I put in an application, and am really hoping I didn't miss anything. I will give you my view on this, whilst yes interviews are quite good there is a limit to their usefulness. If i was doing one I would only include questions about personality, interests, aims in life etc to better understand the person.

 

 

 

I would never use an interview in this situation to judge the suitability to the moderator postion..... as essentially people will lie! It's a sad fact of life that means the chances are it's not worth trusting most of people.

Question though, if there was enough time to add an interview on top of everything they are already doing, wouldn't that help? Now I know people lie, I believe I read in a physiology book that 4-5% of all humans are born without a correct sense of conscience. But are you saying that an interview would do more damage, than good? If so I disagree, but I highly doubt there is enough time to interview everyone individually.

 

 

 

The use of tool for viewing posts I almost certainly guarantee is already used! it is probably the most effective tool that tip.it has in it's limited arsenal.

I agree, I might be mistaken but can't you also just view all the person's posts when you go to their profile?

 

 

 

As already stated this job comes with alot of risk and responsibility, as a moderator more people will attempt to gain you account, so if you security is not up-to scratch you are at a greater then normal risk. This is why account security is so very important.

 

 

 

Also it is a must to get a feel for the users personality, although not reflective of suitability the first posts a user made can show alot of personality. The position is hard! it's like the army adverts 99.9% need not apply..... the chances are you won't like the responsibility that comes with the job. Admin also has the challenge of trying to root out all the people who they think wont like the job, if a moderator leaves after a few days, they are taking all that information with them and can cause alot of damage.

I agree with all of this except the "First post a user made can show alot of personality." I like to think that over the 2-3 years I've been here I have matured. You know what, when I first came here (even in the first 1-2 years) I absolutely would not have been suitable for a moderator position. However I would like to think I am now ready for a position like this. I know more about Runescape, these forums, responsibility, and even other people's personalities. Also, I had already been browsing these boards before I registered.

 

 

 

But of course you do have a point, and although people's personalities will change, they are always the same person.

Actually... what they're like off the forums is another thing that should probably be taken into account. I'm quite the classic example of that as my self-restraint on scapeboard showed when you look at everywhere else i posted where the rules were more relaxed :P

Before I show you, I would like to share to you on how I thought of the idea:

 

 

 

It was back at Christmas 2006, not so long ago, it was at the Christmas Bash V, I had a brilliant time! (For those who weren't around at the time, try looking it up in the TET Forum, I'm sure it will be there), afterwards, the idea just jumped in my head! Since it was almost midnight and I starting to get tired, I went to bed thinking over the idea. The next morning I started to type out a draft of it, it was looking pretty good, it had everything that the Tip.it community had, Humour, randomness and friendly :) I went over it in Janurary, it was looking pretty good, but, I decided to re-write the entire thing but keeping the orignal idea for jokes etc. Now it's Feburary, and it's almost complete, this thing might take a while for this to be made, but if I get enough corperation from you guys (and gals) this shall be a great time \ Now, your probally wondering "What is he thinking?" and the mods would be thinking "Oh boy, time to Lock another topic..." but your in for a "suprise" if you have been reading my blog, well, here it is, I hope your looking forward to this!

This is part is about the sequel

 

Since the sequel has just been announced, this won't be happening for a while, I shall keep the plot line secret for now, since if I told you, you would probally know what happened in the first film, so this is why were keeping it a secret. We shall release the plot line a Day After the first film is released, in fact, the script hasn't been started on yet, since with all the work on the first film is still going on, so its best just to gradually do some work on it. But I can promise you, the movie will be better than ever. Once the roles are posted up and people are allowed to reply, people who wish to keep their role etc, they can, there shall be tons of new characters in this film, so don't worry about getting a place. Watch this space! Tommorow, I shall announce if there will be a third film or not. Cheers for your corperation.

When Tip.It The Movie 2, this film shall be in the making, the story has no relevance to Tip.It film series. UPDATE: I decided to scrap the orignal plot line. There shall be the Final Plot Line tommorow, check back for more details. UPDATE 2: The plot of this film is when two Normal Mercineries are thrown into an Adventure, they find a Young Boy and are caught and end up in a dark mysterious place, where Vampires rule and the Young Boy is with them who claims that he is the Prince of Runescape. Why is he captured? Why is nobody doing anything about it? Why is there a Prince of Runescape?

 

Oh em Cheese! Is that a COMPETITION?!

I have been thinking this movie for a while too, but, I decided, might as well add a Competition.

The Winner, shall be the Co-Director, co-script writer for Pie Man Begins, the poster shall be the offical poster and win the script of the First Tip.It Movie! Kiara Kat is stressed by how much she has to do, her advisor suggests that she goes on vacation to relax whilst he, the advisor, looks after Tip.It, but, this "Advirsor" is now taking control of Tip.It! He has told TET to take the Tip.Iter's on a "Wild" goose chase for some "Ancient" tresaure, he is taking control of the Army and plans to burn down the Cabbage spot! Now a few people must take down the Advisor with the other Tip.Iter's and seize control!

A prisoner who is forced to cook for the Advisor due to he heard too much, he was freed by Phaper and told to gather the Hero's to stop the Advisor.

A wise man who is also the Pie Man, he overheard his plans but wasn't captured due to his strength, he saved (The friend) and told him to find the Hero's to take down the Advisor.

He is a very popular person on Tip.It, strong, brave, but lacks common sense at times, thus, making a fool out of himself at times.

He is bballchamp's bestest friend, infact, if bball was a super hero, then yeah, he would be his side kick. He has a strange obsession of Cabbage.

Very different, from the hero himself, correcting him on a daily basis, but however, he lacks strength, but is an excellent ranger.

Although he is an excellent mage, he cracks a joke at the worse of times. Making him, very funny and stupid at the same time, people don't laugh with him, they laugh at him.

Please take note: The Weekend Rehersals shall always be held on a Sunday due to the TET Event, also, the Time shall be taken the extra 25mins off, due to it's a weekend and school is on the next day. On weekdays, an Extra 25mins will be added on for those for live in the U.S so that they can get home from school. I apolgize if you can't get home from school. Please think about other time zones too. If I add another few hours for the people who live in CST and MST, the time in the U.K would be 10 PM, thus making it very late at the end of Rehersal (Around 11PM and since it's a school night, it can be making us tired the next day) Thanks for understanding.

 

Take notice! Sometimes, I can't be there, due to it's a school night and at 11PM GMT, it wouldn't be nice. So, Inferno is Second Director. This means he will take charge on nights if I can't make it, since the outcomes aren't going too well.

Behind the scenes!

 

We tell you what we have been doing on the film

 

First Rehersal

 

It was a bit chaotic at first, some were late, some didn't show up. Once they got to the throne room, they mucked around, didn't listen etc. After I told them off, I took control! The Rehersal had begun! The first few scenes went very very well, but one scene was disrupted by one person, so we had to move location. So we practiced around 2 scenes (One of them extra) and did a bit of scene 3, then I had to go to bed. Above all, it is going well, I have made a rough estimate when the film is going to be released, but I shouldn't say because the date it might not be safe to say wether the movie will actually be released then. However, I can say though, it shall be released in this month or the early days of March. That is all from me! Hope you look forward to the next update! Hopefully, they might work instead of me making them :wink: But it was fun overall :

 

 

 

Action!

 

The second rehersal was much better than the first one, people were more settled and were more prepared, I wish I could say for some other people who didn't even show up Which is annoying because most of them were on the main roles, thus making my life very difficult, I gave them a part and what do they do? They don't show up. Most of them did and we got to sort things out, which is great because we just need different outfits. We got from scene 3-7 which in my view is fantastic! We ran into another problem with another annoying person but we managed to ignore him and got the scene done. That rehersal was a very good one and I'm looking forward to the next one. It just gets more fun by the minute! \

 

 

 

Teh sequel!

 

Yes indeed! When the rehersal got cancelled, I decided to use the time to talk to them about the sequel, when they first asked me about the sequel (Before even the discussion happened) I thought "Oh drat, looks like I got to spend some time making the sequel." But now, after a discussion with most of them, we agreed on making a sequel, so yeah, we got some ideas down etc, and so far, it's looking pretty good. Will there be a Prequal? Only time will tell... For now, I got to be working on the main one for now, I don't wish to multi-task. :P

 

 

 

Consequences

 

If you miss 2 or more Rehersal's, you shall be kicked out and your role shall be given to someone else. So please. Corperate. If you can't come, post on this thread with a reason, then you shall be excused, if you don't, you will let us down as a whole. Cheers.

Guys, don't worry so much about post count. I've seen mods with about 100-200 posts before.

 

 

 

If post counts counted towards modship, why isn't Bubsa or Nadril a mod :wink:
