What if we have no idea about firewalls etc...?

I suggest you go to this post in order to get all equipped with some god antivirus/antibots/firewall equipment. All free of course, and Its the stuff I have. Just download and play them all (not at the same time) and you should have a clean running pc.

I find the fact people are complaining or arguing in general about the way we're doing this to be weird. With the exception of the Admins and to some extent the Mods, we haven't discussed the manner we're doing this but I can assure you we are not blindly approving apps. We're perfectly aware of the behavior change this is likely to cause and we're not letting 2 weeks of "mod-like" behavior make the difference in who passes or not. We have certain criteria we are using to do initial reviews but this process is not really any different than the one we've been using before now. The differences are more potential people at once. We're also scrutinizing them all more closely just because of the possibility of power hungry people trying to get in.

People can ask questions regarding specifics of how to answer a question or things of that nature. The whole point behind the warning in the announcement is we don't want people harassing staff in game or in PM about whether their app got good reviews or not. They won't tell you so why bother asking. I'm sure most people get the distinction. Ask questions about the process if you like and we'll explain as best we can.

Regarding post count, having a high one won't matter if all you post is crap. There are a multitude of users who frequent the forum a lot and only post to a moderate degree if they have something of value to say.

Lastly, we asked for the boards you read because it's beneficial to have people moderate boards they are active in. Someone who reads OT a lot and knows how things function there is much more suited to mod it than someone who prefers Blogscape the most. We want people who enjoy the board and are users of that board who can moderate when needed.

I think this is going to be a bad idea, because when people don't get to be a mod there is going to be alot of [bleep] about "wawawa why aren't I a mod?", and the one's that do get to become a mod won't be respected...

Well, if they do that they were obviously turned down for a good reason and whining would only make them look stupid. And as for not respecting them, you really SHOULD respect everyone regardless of them being a mod or not and if they are a mod, how or why they became one.

Thats just my opinion on it, I got turned down, and I didn't whine did I? No, I just wished everyone else luck.

How can this account accept all of the applications, I thought the inbox only had 75 pm inbox, can anyone confirm if the account has an infinite inbox?

It isn't a normal account, it has more capacity to store pms yes, i'm not sure if it's infinite.

Some people dream of success, while others make it happen.

It probably has the max allowed of PMs, since no user will ever use it, and it will probably be a locked account, or deleted after the applications.

the one's that do get to become a mod won't be respected...

That imo, isn't true. Those who don't respect the mods who come out of this recruitment are the ones who do not see how they were picked, and also ignore the admins/mods already posting here about how someone will be chosen.

Also, those who are posting about reasons to get accepted, or to get declined in this recruitment I would just relax and continue on your daily routine on Tip.It, since there will be no update with this until the 7th, so don't obsess over it...or make posts about a reason for w/e that makes Tip.It admins/mods look like idiots who don't know how to do their job.

Tip.it is a community, everyone should respect everyone regardless if they're an admin, moderator, or users.

It can hold more than the normal amount just so the initial rush wouldn't completely max it out. It also helped that we sorted the apps a few times per day for the first few days and kept the inbox cleaned so we don't miss someone or have it cluttered.

Guys, don't worry so much about post count. I've seen mods with about 100-200 posts before.

True, seeing that I only had 300 post count when I joined the staff. :)

I also believe Cdub and Tripsis had low post counts also so don't let

that deter you from not applying.

I was also at around 150 or so. There's a lot to be said for bribes. :-w

(The bribe part was obviously a joke, just so I don't get people thinking I was serious.)

Guess that proves once you become a mod you stop putting effort into your posting (see the last three mods PC), because all you ever post is "locked pl0x".

That's certainly not true <.< I've posted more than ten non-moderator related posts today alone.. and I've only been awake for two and a half hours :P

I guess I can't argue with an expert at no effort posts. Take a look further up the page if you want to see a post of mine with more effort. I've made 30 posts in the last 15 hours, sorry they can't all be masterpieces. -.-

i was turned down literally because of low post count and that they couldnt tell from my posts my impact on the community so it sort of makes a difference even tho the second reason was the primary one

1. How do you know you were turned down?

-A. If you asked, thats why.

2. Does this relate to this recruitment drive, or some other affair?

3. I'm sure the Admins/Mods look through your posts, even if its 1-100.

EDIT: I see why he posted this, read tallests latest post after this post.

----

Never have seen three admins/super mods 8-) , defend themselves so well.

Mods may not post a lot because they may be busy with other work, or did you forget that?

That is totally not true. I have posted about 5 non-mod posts today. We lock the threads when it needs to be locked. Besides that, I am just another poster. I put my input in where it is needed and enjoy reading other posts.

We have been contacting users as we review the apps and decide against them based on certain things so it wasn't him asking us. :)

Post count isn't the sole basis of the decision but if someone has 15 posts to their credit, or is a pretty new user we don't really have a lot to go on to determine how well they would mod. Some of these people might be good but this is pretty much how we've done it before; it's just now they know they were even in the running.

So does this mean that if you were rejected for whatever reason, the people reviewing the applications will PM you telling you that so you know your out of the running?

If an applicant has been declined, we are sending out private messages with the reason(s). You've all taken the time to answer our questions, so it's only fair that we give you a reason for being declined.

Since we have yet to hit the official deadline, we are currently conducting a preliminary review.

As a moderator, do you get a bigger say in suggestions? Whilst I personally would disagree with giving moderators a bigger say in suggestions as I believe in equality for all, I would just like to know. It's something I like to incorporate on all my ThinkTanks forums.

Everyone has a fair say in suggestions. It's not like we disregard suggestions created by users (otherwise we wouldn't post here as often as we do ;)). The only advantage might be that moderators can sort of help get the ball rolling when it comes to implementing ideas. But we take every idea into an equal amount of consideration, whether it comes from a staff member or regular user.
